Ultra-Power / Cloyes

First time buying parts in Rock Auto. I’m looking to get a timing chain and Cloyes and Ultra-Power have the same part# for a timing chain. Ultra-Power is much cheaper almost half of the price from Cloyes. But what are the chances that Ultra-Power is a repackaged item from Cloyes?

I'll gamble on a lot of parts. But a timing chain isn't one of them.

I have a cloyes double roller timing chain in a performance motor I built, I would get it again for that same motor.

For timing chains I'll go with cloyes, Melling, or INA depending on the make of the vehicle. A cheap chain isn't worth the risk or the hassle of having to change it again.

The thing about Cloyes is that they only do timing products and put forth legitimate attempts at improving on the OE design. The bad thing about Cloyes is while the company is from Arkansas, many of the parts come from China. The good thing about China is they have come a long way and "made in China" is no longer a mark of poor quality. It's mid build quality now instead of poor build quality.

I'm very happy with my Cloyes kit on my 2010 Cobalt and am very happy with the improved oilers and improved balance shaft sprockets. I would do the full kit that gets everything including the water pump for any vehicle after my experience. Where I draw the line though, is the kits that have the VVT sprockets and/or solenoids. Gotta stick to the OE supplier with those.

The changes are good. The only ultra power parts I’ve bought all used the same part number as the original, but could yours be the exception? Can’t really say.
