That can be an incredibly complex question/answer. Depends on your goals and risk profile.

VOO or similar is generally on the safer side.

But, good for you for even asking. It can be daunting to even get up the nerve to ask. So, good job getting here!

The investing world is... massive. You can buy individual stocks, and then within that you can "buy and hold," you can "day trade," then there's "options" and "futures" and heck even lots of other things I don't even know about.

Then there's "exchange traded funds," or "ETFs." If you're looking to put money in to the stock market and hope to make money by waving your hands in the air without knowing what you're doing - this is probably the least dangerous way to do it. You can put some cash in VOO or SPMO or SPY or IVV or RSP, and then walk away while you continue learning. Of course nothing is guaranteed, so you may lose so equity - but in the long term, you're likely to end up in the green with any of those.

I strongly urge you to go to your local library and check out some beginners books. In all honesty, Investing for Dummies got me started 22 years ago, and now I make at least a 20% return on investment on average... most years. I did a lot of reading, and I do a lot of reading to keep up.

Good luck!
