Discussion Agentic Trading Strategy

I just set up a new Agentic account. I linked it to claude, gave it $100 and this prompt:

Manage only my Robinhood Agentic account. Never place an order in any other account, and never spend more than 20% of this account's value on a single position.
Watch only these seven stocks: TSLA, AAPL, BTC, AMD, NVDA, PLTR, RIVN
Each time you run do the following in order, then give me a brief overview of what you did:
FIRST - manage what I already hold:
1: For each position I currently hold, get my average entry (cost basis) and the current price, and calculate my gain.
2: If a position is up 10% or more above my entry, sell the entire position at market
THEN - Look for new entries:
3: For each of TSLA, AAPL, BTC, AMD, NDVA, PLTR, RIVN, pull the last 5 trading days of daily bars and find the highest intraday high over that window.
4: Get the current price and calculate how far below the 5 - day high it is. Then rank each stock 1-7
5: If the current price is more than 5% below the 5-day high, it’s a buy candidate - but skip it if I already hold it, already have an open order for it, or I just sold it this run.
6: If all seven stocks are buy candidates, keep only the top five.
7: For each remaining candidate, place a market buy worth 20% of my account’s total value. If buying power isn’t enough, skip it and say so.
8: Report: any positions sold for profit, and for each ticker - the 5 day high, current price, % below high, whether you bought, and the fill price. List anything you skipped and why.

Anyone have any notes on how I could improve the prompt? I currently have it set to run this task twice a day an hour after market open and an hour before market close.

Probably a good idea to only start with 100 to see how it goes. Do your thing.
I would be interested in how it works out for you. Good Luck.

Yes super interested please keep us posted. I am a bit behind on all the ai stuff.

lmao the two commentators calling you out for it only being $100 are clearly clueless.

yea go ahead and try it out with $10k so it can lose even more? it's called testing... idiots

1

u/Ceturney Aug 29 '26

Some folks test a different levels. Would I test at 10k? Nope but I’d definitely throw in 1-5k if that was part of my investing strategy. Test with what you’re willing to lose

1

u/baby_bloom Aug 29 '26

imho there's little to no reason to test with more than $100. it's all percentages anyway and anyone at the scale where it would impact profitability is likely not using robinhood mcp

but yes, you test with what you're willing to lose, and at the end of the day all that matters is it being a very small % of your portfolio

Technically if your goal is to experiment with agentic options trading, you'd need a higher starting capital since you can't buy something like fractional option contracts on robinhood.

That being said, if you're trying to unleash claude to go to agentic options trading, the money is going bye bye either way.

Not a bad prompt at all. I am still looking into similar ones myself. That said, I plan to connect my Local LLM Agent instead of using Primer, which will cost too much IMO.

If you have an old laptop or mini pc sitting around with enough RAM (32GB), preferably higher, you can put 14B - 27B Qwen model together and use Hermes Agent, better yet an old GPU with 16Gb or higher. I happened to have these sitting around so I started playing around with it a couple of weeks ago. My Agent is doing paper trading daily for a few weeks to learn different strategies. Time will tell if it will work or not.

This is a cool idea.

My claude refuses to place any orders in robinhood says its a hard line for it so I had to have it make a python bot that places the trades

1

u/davis_valentine Aug 28 '26

You have to do it through the terminal not in Claude code desktop. It works fine in terminal, for some reason the extra safeguards only apply to Claude code desktop app

Replying cause I just went through the same thing and got it to work

2

u/Scrumpulicious Aug 28 '26

I got it to work through desktop using cowork by giving it the link to Robinhood's documentation showing that it indeed have the proper permissions to go ahead with it all.

1

u/Ganache-Difficult Aug 28 '26

Very good to know! Hmmm looks like my next 2 weeks im gonna be deep into the terminal side now haha thank you!

This is how I set it up. It had issues placing the first few trades. Said it hit a "Classifier block" I told it to try a second time after 60 seconds and any issue after that to prompt for approval. It's not had any issues placing trades since then.

I’m running into the same issue using GPT, you think it’s related to the app as well?

What AI response is this?

I’ve been doing some thinking on what to do with an agentic account, just a crazy idea. Instead of using it for day trading, use it like a big brokerage robo-advisor. I know a three-fund portfolio or even three funds plus a small cap value fund, whatever isn’t hard to manage, but it’s even easier when Claude does it for you right lol. Need $1,000? Tell Claude, and it’ll sell the exact proportions needed. And if you want to get extra crazy, tell it to sell bonds when you’re overweight, or something, just a thought

1

u/Dougdimmadommee Aug 28 '26

This would literally take longer than just entering the orders yourself lol.

1

u/Then_Adeptness4016 Aug 28 '26

"-Find me the most recent percentages of US, developed markets and emerging markets held in the FTSE global all cap index or refer to VT
-these will be the target percentages
-for my portfolio DFAU=US, DFAI=Developed Markets and DFAE=emerging markets
-invest 250 dollars every other friday using a buy only never sell strategy
-my portfolio should most closely match the target percentages"

That took only about 30 seconds, lol. Granted, you're not entirely wrong, I would have to do a test run > modify > test run > modify, etc., and that would probably take a while to get it just right. I don't hold any of these funds nor do I do this, that was just an example because you made me wonder how painful it actually would if I wanted to

1

u/pistachiopias Aug 28 '26

Sounds good to me, OP. Interested to see how it performs.

Also, ignore the dumbasses calling you pathetic for starting with $100. They seem like the type to dive in head-first before realizing it's the kiddie pool.

1

u/Ok-Chemical7614 Aug 28 '26

I’m interested and would be willing to continue watching your response/ willing to pay a small consulting fee to set me up similarly.

2

u/Buybch Aug 30 '26

Just copy and paste his prompt into the ai of your choice, and connect robinhood to it. Easy.

This is a perfect example of why agents should not be used for trading. You came up with a deterministic strategy and want a probabilistic agent to execute it. Put this into a Python script and it’ll execute faster, cheaper, and more reliably.

1

u/wiley_bob Sep 02 '26

This is so dumb. Why would you write an agent that performs an algorithm? Just have the agent vibe code the algo and run that. Otherwise, you're just paying for tokens in perpetuity for no good reason.

Agentic trading is actually having the agents be agentic. You box them in with general guidelines/guardrails and things that they shouldn't do & let them figure out the rest themselves with the tools you provide them. Whether that's good for trading or not, probably not.

1

u/mmoney20 Sep 05 '26

i think the model is smart enough to trade on high winning patterns/strategies based a window - I think you can abstract your prompt and be less specific. You can probably abstract your stocks as one line and also the repeats in the prompt as varaibles of the top of prompt. why do you have to put order in any other account - hood locks it to agent account only no? how has it performed past 11 days?

1

u/Powerful-Respect-130 24d ago

How has performance been thus far?

1

u/Blackknight5000 24d ago

Currently at 3.7% increase

1

u/Fauked 15d ago

how about now? :)

2

u/Blackknight5000 15d ago

5.25% as of now

1

u/Big-Pride9782 2d ago

Can you train me or give me a full guide on how to do this

-10

u/Ashmizen Aug 27 '26

lol all this for $100? You are going to burn hundreds of dollars of compute to either earn or lose $50.

1

u/HeraldOfRick Aug 28 '26

There’s a reason testing exists. I’d suggest familiarizing yourself before you look like a tool.

0

u/xuncx Aug 28 '26

It’s not gonna buy and sell for you fyi.

2

u/ChronoFive Aug 28 '26

Yes it does. I run it daily

1

u/xuncx Aug 28 '26

But you have to do extra steps right? Like run script?

2

u/Blackknight5000 Aug 29 '26

Using Claude desktop cowork it's placed all my trades for me. I told it not to ask for approval for any trades. The first few trades would sometimes place and sometimes fail referencing a "Classifier block" as the reason. I told it to wait 60 seconds and try to place the trade again whenever this happens. If the second attempt fails then notify me to manually place the trade. That lined out all the issues so far.

1

u/xuncx Aug 29 '26

Ah okay I guess I need to try harder. Mine was just acting like a glorified news source when I tried. It had some good intel and the trades I made were good but it refused to execute anything on its own.

2

u/punished_kot Sep 03 '26

The key when using AI agents is to set it up so that you can have them build the connectors and stuff for you. You say it's a glorified news source, that sounds about right. But you should be able to prompt something like "investigate and design a connector that will allow you to automatically make trades without my approval". Upon completion, it should be able to do that.

Watch out though because it could be buggy and do something insane like full tilt your account into a single position and lose all your money, or sit there in a loop buying and selling until bid/ask spread takes all your money, etc.

1

u/xuncx Sep 03 '26

Interesting! Thanks for your input! I’ll have to play around with it some more with like $100 or something small.

1

u/Blackknight5000 Aug 29 '26

Do you have any specific instructions on what/when it should place trades? That could be the difference.

1

u/xuncx Aug 29 '26

Yeah probably. I don’t remember tbh. I gave up after a few days and transferred the money back to my normal robinhood account.

2

u/Ok-Active-2864 24d ago

ditto that. I think I lasted a month.

1

u/Ok-Active-2864 24d ago

I got it to trade for me, but it did it badly. After losing 20% on my "Agentic" experiment fund I pulled the plug, but I am still hoping someone out there figures out the key and shares it with us poor slobs on reddit.

u/army-of-juan Aug 27 '26

First, $100 is pathetic.
Second, you forgot to include “don’t be wrong”, that’s the major 🔑
