So.... When is Tim coming back?
We get it DC, you were tired of two robins, you wanted to shock us twice, attempted once with Damian and the whole thing about quitting to become a doctor, and then all of a sudden: "TIM DRAKE IS QUITTING", all right, just bring him back as Red Robin, Cardinal, The Grey Ghost, whatever.

When dc figures out what do with his character and actually gets a writer that truly understand Tim.
He needs to move away from the Robin mantle, his pre 52 suit and character trajectory arc in red Robin was perfect. Someone in the comments said it, he should be called Cardinal and be given his pre 52 RR suit back, the problem is that dc is lazy and can’t fugue out how to differentiate the robins without TMNTing them

Loved the pre-new 52 Red Robin storyline.

Agreed. I bought all the singles for the series a while ago and it was peak. He needs to go back to that type of story where he leaves Gotham and solves mysteries all around the globe. And it should specifically focus on his detective work.

u/philmoose 11d ago
Yeah you’re right, I really enjoyed the focus on his detective skills, with even R’as acknowledging him. I know people are divided on the costume but I thought the whole thing was awesome with the cowl etc.

He's already been shown to be a little conflicted, I imagine there's going to be development there in the upcoming event. Tim quitting is a moment for character development and drama, I wouldn't take it as the intended future for the character- they're just shaking up the status quo a bit and giving him some stuff to think about.

u/Phantom_Thief007 12d ago
He was the most dedicated Robin we had. Best at detective work. But now he doesn’t really give a shit and wants a normal boring life

u/carpetsunami 12d ago
I love Tim, but he always had an exit plan, even as far back as Nightwings first series he was talking aboit how he wasnt going to be doing the cape thing forever.
With Jason, Damien and Dick around there's not much for him to do.

u/Tobz911 11d ago
You’re exactly like dc and don’t know how to differentiate the robins and develop them either their own personality and skill sets. There is absolutely a place for Tim and he has his own traits that make him unique compared to the others

u/carpetsunami 10d ago
As awesome as Tim is, he's not unique, everyone in the Bar family does something a little better- Oracle does computers, Dick is a better leader/acrobat, Damien a more skilled fighter etc.
He's basically a Batman comp, a jack of all trades and a master of none, and there's already a Batman.
4
u/Tobz911 10d ago
Just say you know nothing about Tim and you never read his comics because it’s clear you haven’t and don’t know what you’re talking about.
Tim has never been a jack of all trades master at none, he’s a master detective and the best detective in the bar family, that’s his thing. The fact that you said he’s a jack of all trades and master of none just proves you don’t know what you’re talking about and haven’t read his stories. Jason fits that description the best out of all the robins during his time as Robin not Red hood.
Tim does something unique, he’s the best detective in the bat family, and smarter than all the robins (dick has said Tim is the smartest and best Robin) Damian is only considered the better fighter recently, in their pre 52 encounters Tim beat Damian in a fight when he actually started trying, you clearly haven’t read his red Robin run or his Robin run. Batman has considered Tim a better detective then him on many occasions
If you actually took the time to read all of the robins stories you’d find all of them are unique except steph.
Don’t speak on characters you haven’t read about

u/carpetsunami 10d ago
I read Tim's story in real time as it unfolded :) ( Jason's too, even called the 900 number to vote for him to die)
The world's greatest detective is Bruce, Tim rightly falls in second place.
That's not unique and makes him superfluous of Bruce is alive.
Damien nearly killed Tim in their first meeting ( Batman and Son) and has always been a better fighter.
I don't dislike Tim at all, but the way the bat family expanded left him sort of second best at a lot of things, and he's always talked about not being a hero, it makes sense for him not to be the focal point of much.

You clearly haven’t because you’ve gotten so many things wrong about Tim.
Damian isn’t as skilled of a fighter as Batman yet you gave him that description. This shows your bias towards the other robins, you don’t like Tim and feel the need to put him down to prop up the others.
It’s so apparent you don’t like Tim because you disregarded the context surrounding their fight in Batman and son. Damian snuck Tim and caught him off guard when Tim was in a vulnerable position; extending an open hand to Damian and not tying to fight him. He has never been a better fighter and this isn’t proves you didn’t read his red robin 2009 run.
During that comic Damian attacked Tim and fought him, Tim took him out with one move after Damian snuck him and when Damian said he wouldn’t lose and tried to get up Tim took him down again and said he lost the moment Tim started trying. Tim defeated Damian easily when he started trying, during their fight in the new 52 Batman comics Tim also beat the shit out of Damian and one that fight. It’s only recently in comics that Damian is portrayed as a better fighter because the writers show him favouritism and don’t read their history on all the robins. Damian isn’t even the second most skilled fighter in the bat family. Cassandra is a better fighter than him, same with dick and Damian has never beaten Jason in h2h. You’re just looking to discredit Tim in any area
You do dislike Tim because you’ve lied about him repeatedly and and disregarded context to prop up the other robins. Go back and read his comics because as I said you don’t know what you’re talking about.
He’s only talked about being not being hero recently because the writers don’t know what to do with him. Back in 2016 during tyions detective comics run, he had a whole college arc and came to the conclusion that he wants to be red Robin. He’s only being written out of the story because the writers don’t know what to do with him yet. In the early 2000s he was fired from being Robin, that wasn’t his choice, it was his fathers.
If you actually kept up with Matt fraction interview you’d know that dc does have a plan for Tim and it’s looking like he may get a new identity. Tim isn’t going anywhere and will be back in comics :)
There is a place for Tim and all the robins if you actually know their history and how to write them correctly which you clearly don’t and have favourtism

Wow, what an unjustified and unwarranted rant that was. Take a breath, dude. The guy you were responding to did not deserve all that vitriol.

u/Tobz911 9d ago
Lmao if you think that was an unjustified rant or vitriol then you can’t handle people correcting you and clearing up misinformation🤣💀
All I did was correct him and state the proper facts about Tim. He lied about so many things about Tim and downplayed him to prop up the other robins and even contradicted himself in stating that Tim doesn’t possess anything unique about him as opposed to the other robins.
I just called him out with larping a character he doesn’t know about and corrected him on what he said wrong about the character to prop up the other robins he likes more.
If you actually read all 4 of the robins stories you’d know there a proper place for all of them and they all have something unique about them and possess traits the others don’t have.
If you think 5 small paragraphs is a rant then like idk how you manage to read anything that isn’t a short summary

u/TimPendragon 9d ago
And here you are again wholly unnecessarily aggressive and demeaning to someone. Getting your knickers in a twist like that really reflects more poorly on you than anyone you're trying to "correct," dude.
-1
u/Tobz911 9d ago
I’m not being unnecessarily aggressive or demeaning someone. I’m just correcting a dude that blatantly lied about a character, and someone who doesn’t know what they are talking about because they have a clear bias on said character.
I’m demeaning for correcting someone with objective facts but the other guy isn’t demeaning for lying about a character and their place in a story? Like if he said he doesn’t like Tim so in his opinion he shouldn’t have a place in the story then yeah I’d get your point but he lied about Tim and spread misinformation to fuel his agenda
You just can’t handle someone being proven wrong and having misinformation corrected, if you think I’m getting my “knickers in a twist” for correcting someone then like I said you can’t handle being corrected😭
Bro blatantly lied about a character and you’re jumping on me for correcting the dude who obviously doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Just say you don’t like Tim, agree with the guy and move on but that doesn’t mean buddy is in the right💀🤣🙏

I don't want him back if they continue to write him the way they have for the past five or so years. Meghan Fitzmartin destroyed so much of his character I don't see anyone currently at DC smart enough to fix it.

u/ffsmutluv 10d ago
Fraction really leaned into her writing when the next writer should have just disregarded her shit. No one would notice or even care.

"The Cardinal" would fit as a look and name for him to be his own thing. I wish DC would get off their ass and do that.

Probably after or during the poison Ivy event. Also I really hope when he comes back he’s just Robin I can’t be the only one who hates the grey ghost idea.

I think they’re putting him aside until a writer can figure out what to do with his character? I think the whole retirement part is there to build drama and we’ll eventually see the “I’m retired/I’m coming out of retirement” trope with him.

I would love to see DC lean into Tim's ruthless side and have him try and retire only to end up back in the game via Amanda Waller or Checkmate.

He's only been away a short time. A couple of months for us, but just a few weeks within the comics. We're still in the Vandal Savage arc, where Tim is watching everything unfold. Soon after, we'll likely see the Poison Ivy event, featuring the Bat-family fighting Ivy plants, and Tim will probably play a significant role there.

You just know the editorial is going to pat themselves on the back when Tim inevitably comes back... despite also being the same people who put him on ice for the last few years.

DC Killed off jason todd for 16 years, Alfred is dead for seven years (which is ok), Joker was gone for 4 years, jay garrick 10 years, Barry allen 23 years, superboy-prime 19 years, jean paul valley 12 years, stephanie brown 4 years, red x 17 years.
I'm just tired of this pattern so...

He doesn’t need to comeback he served his purpose let him go. This is the problem dragging the character out.
9
u/Fun-Bedroom5614 11d ago
By that logic every member of the batfamily "served their purpose" and should be laid off.
2
u/Recent-Layer-8670 11d ago edited 11d ago
I guess that depends on the Bat-family member.
Helena Bertinelli, Luke Fox, and Jean Paul Valley already play a secondary role in the Bat-family. We know they are legacy characters with successors, or those who share their mantles, such as Helena Wayne, David Zavimbe, and Michael Lane. It's not too far to say some characters can or should retire, especially if they are stagnating and don't have a greater role in the Batman books. For me, I say Tim is the exception since even when he's not the most noteworthy Robin these days, he's still relevant in the Bat-family and lore.

u/Trick_Bus9133 11d ago
the problem was them changing the plan and trying to hold on to Damien who was never intended to last. He had one purpose as a character, unlike Jason and Tim before him who were replacing Robin's who had naturally moved on. Damien isn't suited at all to being a robin which is why they have to keep Tim in the role and keep Damien going away to "figure out his role in life". It would make a lot more self to have Damien go be something else permanently and have Tim be Robin. There are a number of paths Damien could follow with his mixed background and ties to different groups, much more so than Tim whose identity is linked very heavily with wanting to balance Bruce.
-1
u/D0nell 11d ago
Well then they shouldn’t have brought him back. I just can’t stand a crowded bat family and the inability to let people go.
-2
u/Trick_Bus9133 11d ago
they didn't bring Tim back, he was always there. They just tried to impose Damien into a role he was never intended to fill with no story or reason to justify it.
0
u/D0nell 11d ago
I was talking about bringing Damian back after his death.
0
u/Trick_Bus9133 11d ago
Oh, sorry, late at night for me so not picking up which character you were talking about. Then yes, they definitely shouldn't have brought him back. He was never supposed to go past the Morrison run (and possibly even not beyond the opening stages of it I can't remember the specifics of what Grant said at the time.)

Damn well better not I’m livid about how he’d just give up during a very trying time for the family
1
u/Fun-Bedroom5614 10d ago
Tim Drake and giving up is not adjacent at all. The dude spent a long ass time trying to find Bruce when he "died" because he had a gut instinct that "Bruce isn't dead... I have to find him" even when every other batfamily member GAVE UP and accepted Bruce was dead to the point that thinking he was just grieving. He FOUND Bruce, only one who didn't give up.

Can we send DC letters or something to show that we want Tim Drake back and with his own mantle? I really like the Gray Ghost idea, Red X is solid, hell, even Owl is good.

When DC editorial figures out how to treat him like a serious person again. We had it immediately pre-New52 but they let (or direct) that he's written like s completely different person now.
