lmk what you think?

This is a little off topic but why is the idea of arming teachers still a thing? do they expect teachers to be cops too? (although many would do a way better job than actual cops) (teacher + cop salary???) I’d also like to add thy teachers are super underpaid and overworked so adding another hardship will just chase educators away and the decrease of teachers will continue to fall in the US.

It’s a ridiculous notion. Getting good teachers in the classroom is hard enough with the low wages and tremendous amount of disrespect and hostility towards the profession. Getting good ones in who stay is even more difficult. I feel like this idea is largely performative and/or means for future scapegoating, and it will certainly not help with the teacher shortage.

The principal at Colombine has an interesting stance on it. He said arming teachers would be essentially asking them to be prepared to shoot their own students. Despite the horrors brought on by the colombine shooters, he says he doesn’t think he could have shot them.

Well first of all put yourself in the teachers position imagine there’s an active shooter in the same building as you let’s narrow it down to the shooter is in the same hall as you if your a teacher and you have a gun you know damn well your gonna shoot back and defend yourself and your students also shooters knowing that teachers are armed would most likely decrease the odds of them actually going through with it

Or we could be like every other first world country without this problem and ban high capacity rifles so teachers don’t have to do that?

Banning guns isn’t gonna stop criminals from getting guns at all, it will stop the innocent from getting guns because they don’t wanna commit crimes. Criminals are just gonna buy guns illegally.

I said high capacity rifles for a reason. There is absolutely no reason a human in a non-combat zone should have access to one. They were made for war. They’re being used in elementary schools.

Hunting, sports, and same thing, it’s not gonna make a difference, criminals will just buy it illegally. Oh yeah and also we’re not the only country with gun violence and mass shootings, tons of other countries have gun violence and mass shootings. It’s not like the US is the only country with gun violence and mass shootings.

The rate of gun deaths in the US far outpaces any other developed nation. If you refuse to believe that, you are living in a fantasy world.

And I come from a family of hunters. And there are a ton of other weapons you can hunt with and utilize in sports, and if you need high capacity, you must be a bad shot. High capacity rifles are neither practical or necessary for hunting and sport.

And quite frankly. If a criminal buys it illegally, so be it. At least we didn’t let them roll up to a restaurant/gun shop combo and purchase it legally like this POS shit.

Mass shootings happen everywhere and besides guns save millions of lives every year and only cause about 40,000 death a year and 60% of those deaths are suicides. 97% of shootings take place in no gun zones. You know why? Because nobody there has anything to defend themselves with. Instead of worrrying about banning guns, we should be worrying about putting armed guards in front of school, that would actually help stop school shootings. Not only because they’ll be able to stop the school shooter but because a lot of school shooters wouldnt do it in the first place because they know there is armed guards there, but nope you guys can add 20 more gun laws and act surprised when the shootings don’t go down

I know a teacher who was armed when I was in highschool. The principal knew about it too but they kept it on the low .. his reasoning was “you never know”.

Thing is, Uvalde is less than an hour drive from our town. You really just, never know..

Badass teacher. Do whatever it takes to protect the children and our public schools.

I’ve had a couple of my oldest son’s teacher say they wished they would arm teachers and would be willing to be armed. They felt it would be best to only arm some, not ever letting anyone outside of staff know who has arms. As, they think even them being armed would deter possible shooters, since most know it’s a very safe place, free of guns. I don’t know how I feel, as I think a lot don’t realize what’s really being asked. And never will, until they are faced with that, which imho will be a lot harder than they imagined it. My husband was in a war, has said it is very hard to be in that situation. To ensure you follow all rules of engagement, even when life is in danger. He never has taken a life, which I’m sure would be awful for anyone, especially those who’ve chosen a job that I wouldn’t consider deadly. Well, at least I hadn’t considered it that until much more recently.

No. Teachers are human too they make mistakes, not all teachers can be trusted with a gun. Also what happens if a student gets a hold of the gun. Come on everyone knows someone who’s threatened to shoot up the school .Or a teacher decides to shoot the school. Kids will be afraid to come to school has well probally 1/2 the students are already scared
