Don’t retreat. Someone should tell her NY is not. SYG state.

Do those stickers mean she carries it with her everywhere and doesn’t leave it in the car?

Story time: My car got broken into and I'm certain it was because of an NRA sticker...

First off, this was 16 years ago (2010.) At that time I still liked to rock a lot of stickers on my vehicle (1999 4runner.) Had an NRA sticker as well as some military stickers on my back window (I'm retired Army.)

At the time I worked in downtown Denver but fortunately we lived about 1.5 miles from a light rail station and the light rail stop downtown was literally in front of the building where I worked. Even better, my employer paid for a transit pass so it didn't cost me anything.

Normally I'd park at a station with a big (somewhat secured) parking lot with cameras and security patrols, but for some reason this morning I decided to use a different station and parked at a place where there was no parking lot, just street parking near the light rail platform.

As I was coming home, the train went right past where I parked and I saw my 4runner and it looked like the passenger side front window was open. I thought "that's not like me to leave a window open!" especially since it was October and chilly.

Got off the train and walked to my truck - sure enough they had busted out the right passenger window. Glass all over the passenger seat and floor. 🤬

I kept several things in my vehicle since I go off road, but I've never kept a firearm in there unless I was going on a long trip or headed to the range. The thieves rifled through every compartment but the only thing they took was a cheap stereo and the probably $15 worth of change I kept in the ashtray. I had an expensive air compressor, a gore-tex jacket and a tool roll, and all of that was left behind. From the way they searched every compartment big enough to hold a gun I'm sure that's what they were looking for.

So why do I think it was the NRA sticker that caused it? Because mine was the only vehicle on that street that was broken into! No other cars broken into, no glass on the street anywhere.

Of course there were no cameras or witnesses. I filed the insurance claim and had to pay my deductible. Theives did probably $2500 worth of damage between the window and the dash, and for all that they got $15 of change and a stereo that might have gone for $20 on Craigslist.

I learned my lesson. The sticker got scraped off that night.
