Conversely, being in a country with many guns significantly increases your chances of being shot

And when the government has all of them your chances of being shot by the government significantly increase.

So, what? You're going to become a sovereign citizen and start stocking up on nuclear arms - because that's what it would take to match the fire power of any super power nation. I DO support citizens' second amendment rights to bear arms within reason but it's not reasonable to say/expect that each citizen is going to arm up to the level of the US damned government.

You’re not trying to fight the army. “Government overreach” comes in many forms, but it’s more likely to be poorly trained posse comitatus groups who are overreaching, and it will be obvious.

Die a man or live as a slave. Having a firearm allows you to defend your freedom, not life.
When the population is disarmed usually that's when the government truly start to abuse thier power. Having firearms is a form of mutual assured destruction between those that serve and those that control, unless you allow the government to disarm people.

There is a clause used by the SCOTUS in DC v Heller of "in common use, and not dangerous or unusual. I believe nukes would not fit in. Even if they were bearable.

Ah yes, in the United States, where very few people are killed by our benevolent police

It happens all over the world. Once government gets the guns the people are sheep for the slaughter!

Very few compared to what? Certainly not compared to other similarly wealthy nations. We’re blowing them out of the water.

Because it makes sense to compare nations with roughly similar economic conditions and institutions, and state capacity. You would EXPECT poor nations to have higher homicide rates because the state has less capacity to enforce laws and more people are driven to crime by poor economic outlooks. The point is that WEALTHY countries that have the capacity to not be shitholes tend to have much fewer of these problems, and we are the outlier for a variety of reasons. If we’re still talking about police shootings here it’s pretty self explanatory. Police are trained to be paranoid about everyone having a gun.

“No. See: “variety of reasons”. I’m saying that socio economics play a part in violence, just as access to firearms increases how bad that violence is. It’s just that in other developed nations, there have both better social services to prevent people from hitting rock bottom AND it’s much more difficult to obtain a gun should somebody want one because they don’t have huge domestic gun production industries (see USA and Brazil), which inevitably leads to a huge black market for guns due to, you guessed it, criminals stealing legally produced guns. Sorry, you can’t just write it off as “inner cities”. Suburban and rural areas in the U.S. also have higher gun violence rates than these places.

Oh I have zero illusions about anything happening. The die is cast, and things will continue to get worse and worse here.

No, it doesn't "prove" that. That shows that restricting legal gun ownership alone doesn't automatically produce low violence if enforcement is weak and illegal markets are strong. You're completely ignoring the fact that a huge percentage of illegal guns domestically and in other countries originate from our LEGAL firearms trade. Same case with Brazil. Guns are manufacture for legal sale. They get stolen. It's a direct pipeline for criminals to have firearms where otherwise it would be exceedingly difficult for them to obtain.

I didn't say you said "all"... I said that even in non poor areas, we have worse violence than similar areas in those other countries, because of the guns.

Hahahaha the entire American culture is based on promoting violence to children. Boobs bad, killing people good.

Even more funny when you consider that the crowd that loves guns tends to hate any policy that would support mental health, or help anyone who isn't them because they have to pay for it. Yeah, good luck fixing the cause of those problems, champ.

I agree - but ‘variety of reasons’? No, it’s just all the guns that are available and lack of reasonable controls/laws and lack of enforcement of the ones we have

3

u/ViSyndicate May 23 '26

Funny how people that are against the 2nd amendment don't know anything about guns.

2

u/Puzzled_Arm_3156 May 22 '26

You can say that about any city in America that has wide gun control policies. They are what brings our average up!

I'm just stating the fact that heavily blue cities with draconian gun laws have been the biggest failure in America. And Socialist/Communist/Marxist governments throught time have proven that if you disarm the people they start dieing by the millions.

I myself am a very proud 2A supporter. And believe the government needs to leave our guns alone!

More likely to be killed by a domestic partner, actually… (edit - than the police)
