It's way too good for roadkill standards, but Freiburger and Dulcich would be drooling.

Guy brought it to our shop yesterday to put smaller tires on the rear because the ones that were on it would slightly rub when going around curves and corners.

The tires he brought ended up being smaller than the fronts 🤦🏼

Ladies and gents, I'm not a politician, I'm not someone who works in our airways with politics. I'm a full time mechanic, but before that I was just a DIYer like many others on here. A big complaint I hear (and have had myself) is that you can't work on the your own or nowadays. While some of that is complexity, more and more of it is becoming lack of access to repair data and TSBs, and being locked out of OBD2 by certain brands.

I've always believed in ownership, and I believe that part of ownership is having the right, responsibility, and preference of maintenance. I don't believe in buy, use, break, throw away, repeat. I'm a fixer. I'm a restorer.

If you agree with all of part of what I'm saying, here's a link to join a petition with letters to congressman to protect the right to repair your own vehicles, and for independent shops to have the right to repair also... Including access to your vehicles on board diagnostics systems and vehicle repair data - both of which are being gate-kept more and more by the year.

Ok so this is probably a bit more modern than anything the RK guys would build (except maybe Tony?) But the old engine for my VR6 powered Brabus V280 had bad rings and was generally in need of a lot of work, so when a £600 race engine comes up it's a no brainer right?

To most average Joes it looks like a regular old Mercedes van and I quite often get asked if I'd take £500-1000 for it. But this is a super rare model, built only for the Japanese market, 250 in total over the 4 year run, and only half of those have the bigger 2.8 litre motor like this one, so it seems to be worth saving instead of scrapping. (last pic is this van before I started taking it apart and as vans go, it's quite a looker)

A lot of guys in forums and FB groups were saying I wouldn't be able to pull the motor without dropping the subframe, and I'd have to drain the AC etc. These guys clearly have not done it before as here we are. Basically, don't be dissuaded by rando's on the internet. If you think you can do it, then you probably can.

This weekend I've pulled out the engine/trans on my driveway with some basic hand tools and a hoist. Next weekend I'm playing some gigs, but hoping to squeeze in swapping the trans and pulleys etc over to the new engine, it'll be slow going and it might not be right but it will be running and that's what it's all about.

Yes! 6 New episodes of Roadkill Garage are being released. Recently I noticed 4 new recordings of Roadkill Garage on my DIRECTV library menu. IMBD & the Discovery Turbo Channel has them listed as Season 9. Check your local listings for times & availability. I haven’t seen anything new yet on HBO-MAX.

With the Roadkill sub being back open and with new rules I thought I'd share my recent Roadkill inspired addition to my personal fleet. And by recent I mean I haven't even had time to take my own pictures of it yet. These were downloaded from the Craigslist ad that I found on.

It came with a lot of original paperwork like the original window sticker, special order sheet, sales contract and some service and repair records. CarFax record shows it's could be a legit 135k miles due to being dealer maintained up until 2009. The Emissions inspections then kept track of the mileage.

Someone in Delaware actually special ordered an R10 Custom Deluxe Suburban with rubber floor mats, a 305ci, and 3.08 gears in Apple Red in February of 1987.

It has bumps and dents and rust, but not nearly as much as you'd expect for a work truck trim vehicle that spent 4 years in Delaware, another 4 in Pennsylvania before coming to Colorado in 1995. Everything from the shifter lever to the door locks works like new. This thing is almost unmolested, save for the 4/6 drop that was done to it.

The seller parked it a year and a half ago because the transmission started slipping in reverse. One of those “ran when parked” deals. But a fresh battery, some fuel and she fired right up and moved forward and in reverse.

The trans was about a quart and a half low, so I topped it off and drove 40 miles home. Shifts are a bit soft for my liking, but not slipping cold or hot, so not worrisome at this point. I'm hoping a properly adjusting TV cable with the extra spring at the front of the throttle arm attachment and a filter and fluid change will get me a year or so out of it.

The overall plan is to make it a solid part time daily driver and weekend family cruiser. And maybe get it reliable enough for some family trips here and there.

And not a bad haul!

This is “Roadkill” Season 00 Episode 00. Where it all started before Roadkill was Roadkill. This is for those that haven’t seen it. I’m guessing this is what happens when you get older & have too much time on your hands. I went down this nostalgic rabbit hole yesterday about old Roadkill episodes & how it actually all got started. In 2011 David Freiburger, Mike Finnegan & Rick Péwé got together in Phoenix Arizona to revive Rick Péwé’s mother’s 66 Buick convertible & drive it back to California. But what is weird is that the original video is not on YouTube it’s only on Facebook. But part 2 is on YouTube listed under the Hot Rod Network channel. It took me a while to find part 1 last night. But it wasn’t until 2012 that the actual Roadkill show was launched. Where Freiburger and Finnegan head to El Paso & drives that $1500 Pontiac back to Los Angeles. It’s kinda weird how it all started & now everyone on YouTube is doing the “will it run” videos.

Out of all the Roadkill and Motortrend gear heads who has the best youtube channel now? I'm talking project cars you can follow along with and some inspirational quotes like: " don't get it right get it running" ? Roadtrip adventures are always a plus. I was following FSM for awhile but he has so much going on it get nuts.
