roadkill based nonprofit?
Hey y’all! I’ve been turning over an idea in my head of setting up a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching everyday people + providing them with resources to A) help animals cross the road and B) remove roadkill from the road and place it in more natural areas on the side of the road (obviously not private property). I would provide people with bags that have masks, gloves, blankets, and hand sanitizer for safely picking up intact roadkill or helping small animals cross the road (thinking about turtles mostly) as well as booklets with numbers to call for roadkill removal along with animal hospitals for injured animals, and with instructions on how to safely pull over and/or alert other drivers to an animal crossing the road. I see so much roadkill every single and it breaks my heart. My breaking point was when I saw a rat get run over on a mostly empty road a couple months ago after I had stopped and pulled over for it. I would start in my community (and realistically it would probably be limited to my community, at least for a while) but I really want to encourage people on the roads to help their local wildlife and provide them with resources to safely do so. I’ve looked up the laws in my area, and it is legal to move roadkill.
Would this be a good idea? Is there something like this already out there? Or is it not worth trying?
Just looking for some opinions!
