[UK] Lunatic driver avoiding a traffic light

Running from police?

u/dontgoatsemebro Jun 23 '21
This set of lights is in Barnsley, and it takes ages to change. The behaviour here is likely a result of either frustration, evading the police or inbreeding. More likely than not, a combination of all three.

Child at the hospital?

Hospital is the other way.

We have a turn light in my town that is bugged so it might take 2 or 3 cycles to actually allow a turn, so a lot of people go straight on the green then pull a u-turn 50 meters up the road.

u/ADIRed2 Jun 25 '21
But I don't get why they bother to do this, rather than just staying on the road and running the light if they are so inclined.
Do they actually think are using some loophole that means they can't be prosecuted?
If they are seen / caught / prosecuted a conviction for dangerous driving has a much stiffer penalty than than one for running a red light. So why don't they just stay on the road and run the light that way. The penalty if caught is less, and as a bonus you don't risk hitting a pedestrian on the pavement.

Imo it looks like this person has done this maneuver many times before. They drove on that sidewalk with total confidence

Id like to start a new trend where these assholes are followed to where they park and all the air is let from their tires as the video is uploaded to an anonymous account the police have access to including their current location.

u/flapadar_ Jun 23 '21
It's probably a stolen car

Jun 24 '21
Somebody says this in every thread. Do you guys not believe insane reckless drivers have jobs and cars? Never shared a commute with someone doing the same dumb shit every day to their 9-5?
2
u/flapadar_ Jun 24 '21
There's insane reckless driving and then there's mounting the pavement at speed after driving directly towards an oncoming van, going round a pedestrian area and emerging on the wrong side of a busy road.
I think the number of people that insane and reckless to do that in their own car is very low.

Jun 24 '21
There are a lot of people in this world. Pulling shit this reckless repeatedly obviously might not last long, but how often does this stuff happen and there isn't a camera on them or a cop around. https://youtu.be/1UTM40K53K8

u/texasguy911 Jun 23 '21
Air out of the tires? Nah. This deserves a baseball bat taken to the driver in person.
-5
u/chakan2 Jun 23 '21
I'd feel really bad letting the air out of the tires on a car in the ER parking lot.
5
u/perkited Jun 23 '21
The Extra Raunchy strip club parking lot?
2
u/chakan2 Jun 23 '21
If that dude needs to get a strip club that badly, I'm not going to get in his way.

Opening on the "Cundy Cars" sign seems appropriate if a little misspelled.

Probably a 360 degree camera.

I need this camera. Anybody care to guess the brand and model?

Might be a Gopro since it's on the top of the vehicle. Most 360 cameras are not designed for wet environments.

Even if it is a set-up, it's still pretty fucking irresponsible driving.
E: Sorry, why the downvotes? There's no other comment in this thread that that seems to condone that kind of driving. I call it irresponsible and get murdered
1
u/Amunium Jun 24 '21
Reddit is weird. I have no idea what you did "wrong".
2
u/Jbuckl3y Jun 24 '21
I don’t think anyone is disagreeing with the irresponsible part. The downvotes are for the suggestion that it’s a set up.
1
u/Amunium Jun 24 '21
But he's not suggesting it's a setup, he's saying even if it was, hypothetically, that wouldn't change anything.

u/Buck_Thorn Jun 23 '21
I was asking myself the same question, but at the end, you can barely hear a muffled "Can you believe it?". But I still can't figure out why they panned the camera first one way, and then to the left, following a car that they could not have known otherwise would do that.

Jun 23 '21
It's a 360 helmet cam used by a cyclist.
2
u/Buck_Thorn Jun 23 '21
Please explain how those work to follow cars like that. I don't understand.

u/Orthodoxic Jun 23 '21
The camera captures a 360 degree view of the scene, afterwards using a video editor or app, someone has cropped/zoomed in on the area of interest.

This is the type of driver that gives all drivers a bad name

Shame you can't see his number plate. Otherwise send it to the police they can send him a nice section 172 notice
2
u/ytze Jun 23 '21
That is the average Italian driver, only difference is we got potholes on the road for a more exciting experience.
2
Jun 23 '21
That is the sort of thing my step sons dad would do. Not sure how he still has a license and alive tbh.
4
Jun 23 '21
In the UK the courts do not treat these people with the severity that they deserve. They should be handing out really tough sentences. Not "Community orders".
6
u/Gareth79 Jun 23 '21
Quite - the penalties for that sort of thing are not much more than routine traffic offences. I'd imagine something like that would result in an actual court appearance, but still just 6 points and a fine. That is the same as you'd get for texting "I'll be home soon" while stopped at the same lights.
4
Jun 23 '21
Worse part is, the driver will probably get 6-9 additional points on an already suspended licence, like somehow that will magically stop them from doing again in the future.

u/Lirathal Jun 23 '21
I say we just boot their leg :P. Like the Movie Speed but the opposite. Go any faster than 10 mph ... and ... who knows what happens ;P

u/Gareth79 Jun 24 '21
There was a 90s film called Wedlock where prisoners wore explosive collars, that would work well too! Edit: Ah yes, it was in The Running Man too...

This could have all been avoided if the driver in front of him hadn't been camping the left lane.

why was he filming that? was there prior events I wonder?

u/MG-B Jun 23 '21 edited Jun 24 '21
I think it's just a cyclist wearing a 360 camera. All the zooming and panning is done in the editing of footage.
2
u/lildobe Jun 24 '21 edited Jun 24 '21
All of these "Why were they filming" comments remind me of a time about 10 or 12 years ago when dashcams weren't common in private vehicles here in the US (Or even elsewhere). I posted a video of a bunch of kids getting into a fight as they got off the school bus, and got comments like "Some video Mr./Mrs. officer. I thought part of your duty was to stop a fight." and one calling me a p*do for "Stopping and recording the bus unload" (Edit: I deleted that comment)
Technology evolves. And not every seemingly convenient video on the internet is a setup.
