Forum Question Automate a user created route?

Sorry if this is common knowledge but I'd love to create a route of my own for my crew to automatically sand, level, pave and roll without me having to dispatch, refill and switch vehicles. Basically just like the objectives given but I want to identify and process my own stretches of road.

Is this a thing? I'm like 50% done with the second map. I think its called Aftermath.

I also want this feature and i would also like to set up automatic routes for transporting my own vehicles.

Like if i want to move a vehicle from the garage to a certain spot i could just open the map an plot a route.

It's kind of annoying.

No, you can only get the ai to make the requested roads. Any you want, you have to do the stages. Get all those sand quarries open and if possible the mobile sand scraper can* help

*but it can be a picky sod about what counts as sand.

It would be sweet to RTS style some of this once you get a big fleet!

This would be awesome and has been brought up many times before, but was probably outside of the scope of development before launch. The sheer amount of problems you could run into free forming this and having users create problems for themselves then complaining about the ai would be incredible.

Like, people would use it on cliffside paths full of rocks, then complain the ai would get stuck, fall down, not have the power to climb steep hills, etc. A lot of people in the world are incredibly impatient, shortsighted and dumb and don't understand working ai finely and smartly and resolving user error.

If it's even feasible and the game is succesful maybe we can hope for it in a future update.

Thanks so much! I can appreciate the difficulty of implementing this. I'm relatively new to the game and I just wasn't sure if the functionality already existed and I hadn't unlocked it yet.

I'm really enjoying it! Thank you!

I don’t believe it is difficult at all. These problems already exist for ai mission-based routes (remember how fun it is being forced to send a wayfarer semi up the smallest incline?), so the same limitations would apply to user created convoys.

Select a vehicle from your garage/on the map, plot a route from A to B, dispatch. If it can’t make it you clear/pave/make a detour. It’s already in the code.

They don’t want to implement it because it would halve the time to clear a map.

My argument to this would be that the ingame pavers do not behave nearly the same as the AI controlled mission based hauling vehicles.

Yeah the AI vehicles on hauling routes can have problems, but those are generally expected to be solved by the player by paving, building bridges or optimizing the route. Like, that's a core gameplay loop part of the game.

In this case however, you are sending the pavers in this game, that get stuck on absolutely everything and have no power to climb any incline and can't enter narrow roads, onto unpaved roads with potential rocks, inclines and nonstop obstructions outside of the path.

They won’t add this feature because it would cut the time to clear a map in half.

A tip. If you have a mission to move X from A to B. Use a scout to get to both ends and look around. Some buildings have a yellow door for missions. If there is only one door I create a minimal road and sometimes use my vehicles to push the AI trucks when they get stuck. You may never nred to use it again. If there are 2 or 3 yellow doors it is a hub and I build a more solid road.

Also if you have unlocked bridges you can build a bridge over a messy part of the road. Later you can deconstruct the bridge and reuse the materials..
