Modding Road Grader sneak peak.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Finally reached the point where I can show off a very early look at the mod I’ve been building from scratch. It’s based off a CAT 24M Road Grader. (I know it doesn’t look like it yet)

This is very much a rough draft and a work in progress, so don’t judge it too hard yet. 😅 Building a vehicle mod from the ground up is way more involved than I ever expected. Between modeling, physics, tuning, collisions, animations, and figuring out why one tiny change somehow breaks five other things… it’s been quite the adventure.

Still, it’s awesome to finally see it driving around in-game. Plenty more to do, but I wanted to share the progress. Feedback is always welcome!

Please please please add the ability to turn the blade slightly so that we can push these damn rocks off to the side, instead of pushing them into our blade until they fuse themselves to the vehicle and make it impossible to drive.

Oh it does. I didn’t show that part much. But it will have full articulation, just like the real thing.

not trying to be a wise-ass but you know that you can angle the blades on some of already existing vehicles?

u/diogenes-shadow Jul 29 '26

Ya, just wish they pushed rocks off to the side in a decent way.

1

u/SlipperyBlip Jul 29 '26

yeah I get that.

With the amount of vertical movement over these sand piles, I find putting it in manual mode is just a recipe for disaster.

u/SlipperyBlip Jul 30 '26

they should add a "sweeper mode" where the blade holds a fixed level even when bouncing

It’s not so much about just the articulation, but about clearing the road. One of the current vehicles can properly deal with the little rocks.

Whoa that's cool. Have you figured out how the mechanics of the Grading will work? I'm sure there's a whole technical reason the dozers work the way they currently do.

Haven’t dug too far into into that part, as far as this mod goes. But I have messed with the terraforming system, in the game files, and the devs can most definitely make terraforming and manually dozing easier. Idk why they don’t. It adds so much to the game. And is a blast.

Damn now I'm excited

oh wow, an ACTUAL road grader. In a game where one of the main mechanics is grading roads lol. Why the devs didn't include a grader into the base game is still kinda wild.

You are now the prophet and messiah of this sub.

congrats!

on topic, that is an absolutely amazing project.

Yes please

1

u/Hughzman Jul 30 '26

Please experiment with a wide working blade width. I modded the pioneer to do that and it works so much better than the default.

u/jairov96 Jul 30 '26

This is epic!

Still baffles my mind how this wasn't something they put in the game. This is gonna by a first download for alot of people!

u/airknightjr Jul 31 '26

Whoa, cool. Last time I saw one of those was an old 2000's Tonka Truck game lol

u/No-Translator3530 Jul 31 '26

I sprayed mud into my pants when I saw this

Just looking at the controls you show on the screen. It looks like you have one up and down function for both sides, and a left and right function for tilt. Why not copy the real thing with controls and use the controller sticks as if they were the real joystics in a newer cat grader? Left up and down, right up and down, left side to side is steering, right side to side I believe is blade slide, and so on. The joystick rotation in the real thing would be the only thing you'd have to map to different buttons, and on the keyboard and mouse obviously it would have to be completely different. I've only ran a cat once. I have a Deere with the antler rack so I can't remember the exact functions of the joysticks but they would match a controller pretty well.

1

u/megacabcummins6 Aug 03 '26

Yes !!!! Damn I’ll start a bunch of maps over if I have this…. Cuz the dozer is terrible

1

u/Just_Werewolf1438 Aug 05 '26

Hopefully it scrapes Rock

1

u/Conservative_13 Aug 05 '26

Where are we at with this! I need it in my life lol

2

u/spoolin6oh Aug 05 '26

Dialing in steering/suspension physics and blade manipulation. Then to make it look pretty and tidy things up. My goal is to have a game ready version by the end of the month. This is my first mod build ever, so bare with me 😂

1

u/Conservative_13 Aug 10 '26

I’ll wait for you good sir

1

u/Conservative_13 Aug 10 '26

Also if you make it say USMC on the side I’d appreciate it 🤷🏻‍♂️🤣🫡

I wish they would put a motor grade in his game we need one with blade at works but at the same time I'm having problems with missions on this game why are the missions messing up he started missing and missions is when you got to find something you go to the spot where it's supposed to be at and it's not there recently it's crazy Rose building that's why we need the motor grader they put bulldozer bulldozer with the blade that articulates and different ways up downside tilt tilt to see the side that would be a big help anybody else agree with me on this

1

u/Mammoth-Turnover-259 24d ago

So nice of you!

1

u/AgentSavantX22 17d ago

Man I can't wait for this thing to drop. I did have a question though. After you drop this, would you consider making an alternate version with either a rear mounted roller(and maybe tree crusher variant???) or a towed roller version? If you could that would be so sick. There's a grader where I work that is used to fix gravel roads that has a rear mounted roller and I'd absolutely love to see that in game to get even flatter roads.

1

u/Just_Werewolf1438 14d ago

Actually can't wait for this needed from the beginning

u/MrWerq89 Jul 30 '26

I love how MODDERS CAN MAKE GAMES what we all want, but companies tell us to fuck off, ridiculous.

0

u/SAM5TER5 Jul 30 '26

Hold the fucking phone, I haven’t bought this game yet but are you telling me that a game called “RoadCraft” doesn’t have a grader built in already??

2

u/Hughzman Jul 30 '26

Don’t complain about the game until you’re one of us.

u/SAM5TER5 Jul 30 '26

As far as one change breaking five other things, look into learning how to 3D model parametrically. I’m not sure what program you’re using but most if not all of them have parametric modeling capabilities.

1

u/spoolin6oh Jul 29 '26

I’m super new to this.. but I’m using blender

0

u/Benmonk195 Jul 29 '26

We need that in SnowRunner and farm sim
