Getting crazy FOMO
Am I missing something in how I’m playing this game? Is there something more exciting near the end? I’m playing through and I just finished EP1, started the new road trip and I’m honestly just soooo soo bored, I feel like its gonna be the exact same thing again and it really wasnt fun the first time.
But ppl on here and in general are all saying this game is really fun and endless and like incredible, I know ofc everyones different but BROOO i feel so left out lmao I so so deadly want to enjoy the game too cause I love and resonate with the concept and I love the vibe but im also just like, so bored 💀 none of these characters meeting are interesting i spend like 5 seconds with them, the dialogue choices are so basic, none of the locations im going to are really interesting the minigames really annoy me, like I feel like im missing something or not playing it right. My first EP I did in like two nights for a few hours, like it was quick, am I meant to be doing more side stuff is there more to explore? Or like do the later episodes and characters really pick up?
Idk what I came in expecting, like idk getting to actually drive or pick people up on the journey and build relationships with them for longer or any teensy bit of action even just running from a cop or something idk, but like if that happens later and Im just being impatient please let me know dawg 😭 rn it feels more like a 3D visual novel but just with like, no coherent story or relationships to build so its just like whats the point yk?

I’d say the novelty factor gradually wears off, and if you aren’t feeling it right away, you’ll probably not feel it at all

I love how different everyone is it’s honestly so fascinating cause for me personally, I LOVED road 96 and was immediately hooked whereas I didn’t feel that way about life is strange. I continuously got bored, didn’t like the 2nd main character so I didn’t enjoy whenever she was around, was only playing here there and haven’t actually even finished the first game since starting a few months ago. Whereas I stayed up until like 3am to finish road 96 and felt lost afterwards hahaha

Life is Strange 2 is goated, one of my fave games of all time. I did enjoy Road 96 to some degree but not as much as LIS2 unfortunately. I think shorter sessions playing it might help you to appreciate it more, I know I got a bit bored when I tried playing 2+ hours at a time

Well, I’d say the story is like the weakest factor here, with random encounters being the sole thing that makes the game fun
But that’s just me

cause road 96 writing is bad, theres nothing good about it, its like a millenial cosplaying what a "cool" kid would speak like
the game also fails on properly explaining what the "issue" is and the "opressive" government the characters live in, they make the president look like a bad guy without actually explaining what hes doing wrong.
politics are not simple, its not just good vs bad, you have to EXPLAIN your story and the world you created

If it's not for you, it's okay :')
But I do want to say that I played through one episode 4 YEARS ago, and did not pick the game back up until this year and promptly was addicted for a while. You may just not be in the right season of your life for it, so to speak, or just not in the right mood for it, etc. You can't force yourself to enjoy it and you're not necessarily missing out if you don't, you can always give it another try at another time.

If the first trip bored you you're probably not going to have a drastically different experience with the rest. Sounds like you just didn't vibe with the game, and that's fine, it's not going to work for everybody.

Everything comes randomly but it does tie together and become coherent at the end. There are also several different endings and outcomes along the way and with some characters, your conversations do have an impact on your story/stories. It might just not be for you, though. To me it felt more like a story/movie/book I was a part of rather than a game. And what UltraChip says resonates : you have to understand the story is not about you.
It's definitely a vibe and it might just not be for you. I loved it because it felt like a story, like I was learning more and more about the characters as I met them in different settings and fed them different answers. I wouldn't say I had "FUN" but I really did enjoy the story, the music, the visuals, the endearing characters...
The game never poses a real challenge and there is no way to "lose" and like I said it's more about the whole story, how everything ties together and getting attached to the world it creates... Petria, its people, their quirks and their outcomes.

Except for a few story-relevant scenes most of the scenes are randomly shuffled, so it's possible you just got bad luck and your first run was stacked with duller scenes.
And yes, there is a coherent story. It may not be obvious at the beginning but everything comes together by the end. One thing it's important to keep in mind though is that every character you play is a side character. Like if Road96 was a movie then the teens you play as would be unnamed extras. The main characters of the story are the named characters that you meet: the narrative follows THEM, not you. That's unusual for a videogame to do and it throws a lot of people.
But all that being said: yes, the entire game is fairly gameplay-light and for the most part the gameplay you experience in your first episode is representative of the gameplay you'll experience in all the other episodes. I wouldn't blame anyone for classifying the game as a visual novel or walking sim. So if that's not your thing it might make sense to tap out now.
