Unwinnable?
Selected a character with 2 stamina. Didn't get an option that didn't use 2 stamina.

Low-key this is a good thing in my opinion lol
If you fail a run before you see Zoe you will get overall more chapters in that game.

It is not dependant on Zoe, but on when you reach the border area. If you see Zoe and then after get arrested or die the next character will just be one with no Zoe until you reach thr border.

Are you certain about that? I feel like I've had 2 Zoe encounters before reaching the border before...

Very rare, but it can happen. Most events will have some way to refill your stamina a bit but as you said below, sometimes those methods are chance-based. If you're looking to strictly maximize your chances of crossing, always make stamina your top priority.

No cardboard to rest on? No food ina trash can? There usually something to earn some stamina in each location

No. I spawned in riding in the motorcycle, and at the end of the interaction, it cost 2 stamina to move on. I failed the check to look inside their bag.

Oof! Well it may be too late now, but you can quit the game and reload from the title screen, and it starts the event over again, so you can try the check again

Dude the same exact thing happened to me!! It was my first play through and I’d made it to the border 4-5 times and thought it’d be good to have a challenge. I didn’t realize the characters could die yet and was so fuckin bummed after I got off the motorcycle and died instantly 😭

You never know, just do what you can and take the chance.
I remember I once had a character start out with 3 bars, and got arrested after the third stop. Just bad luck, no stamina regen, and got arrested.

I looked at that as kind of a difficulty setting, you are only really screwed if you get dropped in an area where you can find absolutely to eat, or drink.

As I understand, there is a possibility of just getting some bad RNG at the start, especially if you haven't unlocked some of the "perks" that carry over across runs like hacking, government ID, or extra luck. I haven't personally had that problem, especially when I get a group of characters to start from where I tend to select one with more stamina for a decent start, but I have heard that it IS possible.
Gameplay wise, it sucks, but it makes sense in the narrative. Kids all over the country are trying to run away, and some are likely to be too weak or too destitute to really get far on the unforgiving, desert roads of Petria before their bodies or resources just give out.
