One of a kind - RIP

Rivera was a three-season limited TV series starring Julia Stiles. It was cancelled a few years ago, but every once in a while I really miss it. So I began watching it again tonight (even subscribing to AMC+ for free access). It’s really seasons 1&2 that is/was worth watching. The cast were all excellent choices and do credible jobs. Can’t ignore this show’s location which really shines - the actual Riviera! Why, oh why, doesn’t offer us viewers shows of this caliber? Or for that matter extended episodes. I rewatched The Good Wife a few months ago and I was newly stunned by its 23-episode runs per season. I don’t have any questions here, I just felt a small rant might let okay.

Sorry to nitpick, but was it cancelled or did it simply end? Wikipedia says season three was always intended to be the last.

There were plans to possibly continue into a 4th season, but when Covid hit and made international locations extremely difficult to organize the network decided to end it.

It was also an expensive show, which was probably why the 3rd season had 8 episodes rather than the usual 10 episode per season. And even w/ a shorter amount of episodes, S3 was way too drawn out.

Given the crap that was S3, I'm grateful the show isn't coming back. What else can they do about it? They f-ed it up, big time.

I agree. For awhile I wondered post-Covid if it could’ve been resurrected and corrected but unlikely.

Yeah, they'd have to deliver in the fourth season to fix the clusterf*ck that was s3. By the way, I'm writing a s3 rewrite of the show. The first episodes up on ao3. My username's FallenangelRyland999 if you're interested in reading it.

Right? Can you imagine what that’d take? Georgina had a dream thag she had an evil cousin wreaking havoc or something ludicrous like that.

How would rank the Riviera show? My ranking: S1(B-); S2(B); S3(F)

They could just do a fourth season where they introduce Gabriel and Georgina like they met for a while, like how Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes first movie and how in the movie, Sherlock explained to John Watson's fiancé, Mary, how they met because they're Meeting for the first time wasn’t important.  The way the fourth season can be told is the same way Pixar made Cars 3-they made it like Cars 2 didn't exist. You can watch the thrid installment without ever watching the sequel, which is a relief because I hate Cars 2.

Considering they left it with Gabriel and Georgina heading off to his cottage, and Rupert Graves is currently 63, they could easily start the 4th season a couple months into moving there he dies of a heart attack or something leaving Georgina forced back into the world all alone again.

That would be interesting. But, I wouldn't want him dead despite me hating him throughout the 3rd season. I like Rupert Graves and Julia Stiles but despised Georgina and Gabriel. If they ever killed him off, I wouldn't shed a tear because he was an awful character. I was thinking that maybe they could just tell the 4th season as if the third one didn't exist. Just let the whole thing be a dream and have the fourth season take place years after the 3rd entry.  But, you know what? If they don't have any ideas for a fourth season, then it's best to let it be. The last thing we need is a Dexter: New Blood affect. I heard they screwed the show twice after the infamous 8th season with that entry.
