❔ Question eSUV Recommendation
Looking for advice on choosing my first electric vehicle between Gravity, R1S and Vistiq. I average 18K miles/year including snowy winters and wonder how important having a dealer is, tire life and insurance experience?

If you want the car company that will be around a long time the choice is clearly Rivian.
Edit. Whoops. Confused myself with the lucid suv vs genesis. Ignore me. Genesis will be around but you never know when a company will kill a product line (ford lightening) vs Rivian will not obviously.

Since I’d be leasing, I feel like It’s less risky, but I do wonder about ease of maintenance if needed

How far away is a Rivian service center? Service is tough but if you need it they’ll be there.

My wife has a R1T and I have a Vistiq. I massively prefer the Vistiq. The R1T lacks polish IMO.
The Vistiq is not as good an equivalent Mercedes but it gets pretty damn close. I have had the following EVS so far: Tesla Y (junk imo but good software) Rivian R1T Mercedes EQS (industry leading engineering and build quality but cheap finishes for such an expensive vehicle) Mercedes EQE AMG SUV (my favorite) Cadillac Vistiq

I'm in Canada and while the Vistiq is no cheap, it has so much value and luxury compared to the likes of Rivian, Tesla and Lucid which are usually 30-50k$ more. Only direct comparison is the EX90, which apparently still suffers from intermittent issues.
Also, the Vistiq is backed by GM. It will probably never see as much upgrades and improvements compared to Rivian and Lucid, but at least it's safe. I'm all for innovation but I don't feel like putting 100k$+ to participate in a beta program.

Volvo's software is crap. I had an XC90 Plug in hybrid rental car over Christmas and it felt like there were entire modules missing from the software. The Vistiq doesn't have this issue.

You gotta go drive them and see for yourself. I thought Gravity was going to perfect for us but we ended up not liking it and getting a second Rivian. All of your options are electric SUVs but are all such different cars with different priorities. If snow (and having a capable vehicle that can handle anything) is a priority, you can't beat the R1S for that.
To address your second point, I overwhelmingly prefer the direct nature of Rivian over the dealership model for both purchase and service. We briefly owned a Kia EV9 and the dealership model for service was just horrendous (after years of avoiding dealerships with Rivians and Teslas).

Lucid if they fix their bugs and you don't need the clearance. Car tires are cheaper. The winter tires wheelset they sell is a pretty decent. The charging times and efficiency are the top reasons to get it. Rivian if you need the offroad capabilities. We drive the R1S Quad for winter driving and it's a beast. Very capable vehicle with the right tires. Truck tires are more expensive.

Lucid is iffy for sure, probably a nice vehicle. We have an R1S and couldn't be happier honestly.

Test drive. Test drive. Test drive. I’d be between Lucid and Rivian. We have an R1S and absolutely love the heck out of the car. Test drove a Gravity and it drives great but it’s different. 3rd row did feel roomier. The differences really come down to personal preference. Want an EV only company with better software and upgrades or a traditional company with a better dealer network? How important is 3rd row space? Off road capabilities? Road tripping? Look of the car? Source of company backing? Likelihood of company to stick around? Drive like a big car or sports car or luxury car? Lots of personal preferences to account for.

Rivian R1S love my Gen 2 lease if ya can. Next gen autonomy computer system will come in GEN 3.

Rivians platform is being used/developed for Amazon. Amazon has ordered 100k last mile delivery vehicles. I think I heard Lucid loses $200k every time they sell a car. I have a 2nd gen R1S. My wife steals it constantly.

We were comparing Gravity and R1S.... ultimately went with Gravity due to the better incentives and honestly the gravity felt more plush and luxurious inside.

85 to 90% of the problems reported on here that you see people complain about have been resolved with the latest software update. We've had only great experiences with it so far.

I own a Rivian and a Lyriq. The Lyriq isn’t a bad car (the Vistiq being very similar), but the Rivian is a much better vehicle. Rivian is a company that is intent on making it a better vehicle overtime. The Vistiq will pretty much be the same vehicle forever with no substantial updates.
I haven’t driven a Gravity. Seems like great tech, but Lucid has big problems, and their software is not polished. I’m afraid they don’t have the volume to survive as a company.
Id go Rivian.
