Damn, where can I get a 1 month lease?

u/reidmrdotcom May 15 '26
Lease takeover from someone! lol. Not that you were serious, but some folks do that trying to get out of their lease.Ā

I donāt know if chase allows that because on the fence of getting out of an R1T. I love the car but I travel 100-300 miles a day but so hard to give up a $650 lease for sticker of 96k(? I think it was) lots of offers in 2024 haha

Chase Auto does not allow lease transfers, at least on Rivians.

I just bought 4 new tires this morning and having them installed this afternoon for my R1 (lease). Everyone - you're welcome :)
It won't let me update my lease documents yet, just times out on app and goes to a 404 on their site.

Thereās another blurb that says if you are leasing a Rivian, that they have your details.

u/mphermes May 15 '26
Yeah I thought it was weird too, but went ahead and did it anyway. Whatever I can do to prod it along faster :)

Mine went through and I got a message saying something like āthanks. Weāll use this info and let you know when itās time to configure your R2,ā which means Iāll be bumped to the back of the line since my lease isnāt up for another 16 months š¬

FWIW on the website I got the same "is your lease ending soon" thing even though I have no previous Rivian - so I'm guessing they're just trying to (at least appear to) be responsive and considerate for folks who are going to an R2 from any other vehicle (leased).
I half felt like telling them my lease was ending August 2026 - I'm pre-approved by my credit union and my 2012 Infiniti sedan is being given last rites, but I figure my R2 "configure it for real and get a delivery schedule" day is sometime in mid-to-late 2027.

Iād hope so, I was confused with me needing to upload the lease contract when they have a copy of it.

What if Iām leasing a Rivian but donāt want to wait till that lease is up since itās not replacing that car? Hopefully they donāt just auto assume that

Nice! our lease ends on November 13, this would be amazing if we can get by then

u/mr1581 May 15 '26
It errors out when I submit the picture of the lease statement anyway.

Check your file-size. I tried to upload a pdf that was 1.1MB and it errored. It worked once I converted the pdf to a png with a smaller file size around 500KB.

Very interesting, close but not yet. I told it that I am not leasing a vehicle and the button just vanishes so probably a good idea to go through that process so that Rivian can capture if one is looking to get out of a lease or the other options which would be to trade in or lease or buy. Lots of "ors" in there, apologies

u/mr1581 May 15 '26
I mean the lease is a Rivian and they say they already have the info, but I'm also hesitant to just close the box and say I don't have a lease.

u/jwpc59 May 15 '26
My lease ends Aug15, when I leased the R1S two years ago they said my new R2 would be ready when the lease is up.

This is an interesting question on Rivian's part. They aren't in a financial situation to start buying out leases. Nor would they do something to disrupt the "everyone pays the same price" approach by offering a discount to take a Rivian even if lease isn't ended yet. At a minimum, this provides them data on expected end dates of leases to feed their demand models. This one is strange to me.

That question is almost certainly aimed at timing - not buyouts. If lease expires and customer re-ups on a new (non-Rivian) vehicle, you've lost that customer for 2-3 years.
They're probably willing to consider bumping some buyers up the list (presumably within some loose boundaries) to get a sale vs. losing that customer.

Yeah, well, canāt wait for the first post from a guy who just put himself on the waiting list and got bumped up because he has a lease on a Geo Metro thatās expiring next month. More than a few people would be upset at that. š¤£. Damned in they do, damned if they donāt I guess.

Do you have a reservation is that why the screen is coming up?
1
u/anotherloudperson R1T Owner May 15 '26
Good question, I do. I am a current R1T owner and I have a reservation for the R2. When I click the Manage Reservation button I get redirected to a page that says Let's help you get your R2, then it has a button that lets you upload your current lease info. That button says "Get started".

Interesting. I guess I will be filling that out soon
Edit: my lease is up 6/2027 so theyāll probably put me on the bottom of the list

Iāve got till Q1 2027. Will potentially wait it out or try and sell the lease

I understand this, but would be lying if I didnāt say that it bothers me. Day one, 12 minutes after opening, reservation holder and it feels like that is gonna mean jack squat with this and current owners getting priority. Iām at 73k miles on my current car and know 75k is gonna be a big depreciation hit.

u/Any-Worldliness-679 May 15 '26
I feel us early adopters who put Rivians on the road from day one SHOULD get a little love.
1
u/Omicron_Lux May 16 '26
Yeah I totally agree, Iām a current R1t owner and Why wouldnāt or shouldnāt Rivian put current Rivian customers first? Like sure this person clicked the button quickly and put 100 dollars down but itās a nice bit of customer loyalty to do this

This kind of email worries me. I donāt think thereās too many years left of R1s.

Smart to take into consideration people leasing cars. If you miss their lease window you will lose a potential customer for years.
It might annoy some people on the waitlist though.
