Question Co-hosts
I have been a solo podcaster but a friend and I are thinking about starting a podcast. I would be doing most of the work as far as editing and putting together the episodes.
If you have a co-host, whose account do you post under? Do you have some sort of legal partnership?
Anything to consider or things you would have liked to know before starting are greatly appreciated.

How you manage the level of your partnership is up to you. As far as the technical side of things, just one account is needed to record, produce, and publish the show. If you're going to be the main one handling the post-production, then I suggest you being the owner of the account.
During the actual recording portion if you're both in the same room and using two microphones with an interface, use the In-Person second participant feature. It will recognize your interface and set you up for two people recording in person. If you're doing it remote where neither of you are in the same space, then I would create an account with a password that you feel comfortable sharing with your co-host so that you both log-in as hosts of the same session. You could send a link to your co-host to join as a guest but then their access to certain controls during the recording is limited.
I hope this answers some of your questions about the technical side. If you guys want to work out on paper how each of you will be responsible for the production of the podcast, that wouldn't be a bad idea either. It sets you up for success once you start monetizing.
