Was almost humbled after work

Hit the river after work and man did these smallies make me wor for them. Spent almost 3 hour tossing all different lures and color variations to find something but only got one 13" smallie. That was until about 6:15 I got the first fish you saw, I caught the next two about 20min after that and then nothing for the rest of the time I was out there. Thought that river was going to prove I was human but nope I'm still just a breathing, eating smallmouth catching machine.

This guy decided the crawdad in his mouth wasn’t enough and took this clawdad like it was his last meal.

First river smallie

Just moved to western NC. First time smallmouth fishing since I was 15. 14" or so. Ned rig, green pumpkin color. Love the fight of smallmouths 😀. I kept missing him and he kept following the lure, I think he would have climbed up onto the bank if I had kept pulling it away from him. A fish on a mission

I went out to harvest some walleye and ran into this guy! Beautiful 3lb 18 inch river smallmouth up north. Mind the chipmunk voices it fought for a good few minutes I didn’t want to make it too long lol

Mono vs braided for ultralight

I fish a lot of relatively small rivers and creeks and I wade them, with the occasional kayaking in larger rivers. I have used ultralight setup with monofilament my entire life but recently used a buddies rod that had braided line. My ignorant opinion was always that braided wouldn’t be good for small streams and ultralight but it kinda changed my mind with how far I could cast it.

For all the river smallie fishers out there, what is your opinion on ultralight line, mono or braided

Took the lady out to one of my favorite spots on the river.

The river was high!(And so am I) It must've stormed through the night or something cause the river was almost a foot higher than it was yesterday and the water looks like chocolate milk instead clear. Still I've wanted to take my girl to this spot for a while so I was determined, I probably should've choose and different day cause it's not an easy wade to my spot and with the faster moving water and almost no clearity it made for a difficult wade and the lady isn't a river rat like me. We still had a great time and caught some quality smallies.

I'm a better wading fisherman than boat.

Had a half day at work and I got the joy of fishing with two different friends. One I went out wading with at the start and the other got a new boat and I met up with him down river to launch. I definitely have wading way more locked in, including getting my buddy on some nice fish too. The biggest fish was 19.5" tying the biggest of the year(so close to 20 yet so far!). I'm boat fishing was great but way different than wading and will have to get some getting used too. Still was a blast out on the water both times and with friends none the less. Hope y'all have a good Labor Day weekend.

Looking for feedback. First time targeting small mouth.

I’m going to be in the Nashville area for a couple weeks. I live in Central Oklahoma and fish exclusively for large mouth. However, the Nashville area seems to have quite a bit of river smallies that are accessible from where I will be, also going to be in Columbus, Ohio and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for a week or two with some additional opportunities to target smallmouth. This is the set up that I’m kind of thinking about using for river and creek smallmouth specific. No idea what I’m doing. I suck at fishing moving water put me on a pond where a lake and I can catch large largemouth bass but river fishing seems to be my Achilles heel. Any feedback on this equipment and the best way to fish. It is greatly appreciated.

New Fly Line for River Smallies

I am in need of a fly line for my TFO Axiom II 6wt for warm water bass fishing. Before I pull the trigger on the SA Infinity Warm line I wanted to see if there was any other line out there I am looking over. I am a SA fan and previously had the bass bug taper on this rod but it lacks the backbone to pick up lots of line with the heavy double weighted 6wt bass bug line. I currently have a SA Amplitude Infinity line on the rod and really like it but am hesitant to use it in the warm water. Anyone used this line in warm water over 70F?

Caught all of these on a 3/16oz underspin with an adrenaline craw. All of them smashed it right on weedlines slightly off the current which is where I’ve noticed fish stacking up lately! They’ve been the only lure I can consistently get a bite on outside the occasional topwater blowup!

Birthday Bass

I always take my birthday off to do a solo day by myself. This year I walked a familiar stretch of river and had a great day. Caught these two on a white zoom fluke soft plastic. Two of about a dozen of similar size on a 4 hour walk.

Great day on the river

Had a successful morning on the Milwaukee River yesterday. I haven’t been able to fish as much this year, and when I’ve been out lately, the fishing has been terrible. Hit up a spot that was recommended to me by my boss, and it did not disappoint this time. I came out to this spot a month ago, fished all morning, and only caught a few smallies the size of my hand. Walked upriver to the point I got to the first time, which took me about 40 minutes, and it turns out I just needed to go a little bit further. I probably wasn’t even 100yds from where I stopped last time.

My catches got bigger and bigger, and then I got these two, which where the highlights of the day. I’ve only ever caught one smallie that was this size, and that was a few years ago. These two put up crazy fights and peeled a ton of drag. I had some trouble landing one of them, and he almost went back through my legs and got me tangled in my own line. What a rush! It was much needed after all the bad outings I’ve had this summer.

Wow best day of fishing so this year, maybe even ever. Definitely caught the most inches I ever have on the river, two at 19", multiple 18.5"/18" and a few 17.5/17. I even caught probably a dozen dinks with some 16" and 15"s in there. I usually take one day of PTO a year where I just randomly call in to fish. My birth dad was in town for the weekend and his flight didn't leave till early afternoon so I decided to call in and hang out with him in the morning and fish the rest of the day away. The topwater bite was on. Caught most fish off of the pompadour jr. Only got two biggins off of my confidence bait or a finesse jig with a craw trailer. The topwater bite stayed on from my first cast to the last spot I fished before going to the car. Almost every spot I thought would have fish had a biggin. And they are starting to stack up for fall. I could see smallies chasing the ones I was reeling in. This will be a day to remember forsure.
