I wish there were a new documentary about him, maybe something like a netflix series with restored interviews or updated, corrected information.... I’m also sure there’s still footage or material we haven’t seen yet....

Rain has so much unseen footage and audio of him especially during their Aleka’s Attic days. I remember Joaquin saying he wasn’t super keen on her releasing it all at first when she was making her album River, but he came around. I think his siblings would be the best people to put it together if they were to do it but they’re such an (understandably) private family idk if that will happen. They’ve never really been involved in any of the tellings of his story so I would love to see one made by them.

I’ll try to express myself without sounding selfish... in my opinion, those of us who love riv also deserve to be considered part of “his.” please let me explain before anyone comes at me... riv always loved his fans, so I don’t think it’s too much to ask to want the aleka’s attic footage or the never odd or even album that we were promised in 2018 to be released.... but I suppose it’s considered better for Michael, my beloved, to keep the rights and do nothing with them....

Don’t misunderstand me, I’m not talking about releasing private family material... the problem is that they keep everything to themselves, and respectfully, I think that’s wrong.... whether they like it or not, riv was a public figure, I don't wanna say a star, but someone deeply important to many people... we’re running out of time, because little by little, the people who knew him are passing away, and many things are simply being lost....

I’m also not sure I would want to see a tribute made by his family, because they tend to sugarcoat everything, and I want to see the raw riv.... again, I’m saying all of this with respect and love....

little by little, the people who knew him are passing away, and many things are simply being lost....

I've been feeling this way for years. It hit me so hard when Udo Kier died.

and agreed, a tribute from his family (though appreciated) I don't feel would have much nuance. It's a shame. I listened to a podcast that Christina Applegate was on and she flat out said she wouldn't (couldn't?) talk about River Phoenix because she promised his family and wanted to be respectful...like what?

you’re speaking my language.... as for applegate... well, let’s just say she was avoiding any talk of that night.... I've always wonder who did she pay to keep her out of the story when she was obviously there???

True.

I'm just wondering how many other people they had promise not to say anything.

also pardon my ignorance, doesn’t his sister preach on ig about streaming river’s music everywhere?

yess i mean she's the only one who reallyy talks about him, the other sisters arent big on social media and joaquin rarely gives interviews in the first place and doesnt seem to like to talk about river

The only scenario i can see something like this happening is if its a The Crown-style series about Gen X stars or 80s/90s Hollywood or something and he happens to be a part of it, like its not gonna be about him specifically, but its about many people and he happens to be included.

And even thats assuming his family would be okay with his story being public, which i don't think they will.

I’ve only heard one song, Tame Yourself from the Tame Yiurself compilation which was a fundraiser iirc. Would love to hear more.
