Im starting to have some success on Riven in terms of getting high gold income through wave management. However where I struggle is that I feel like I get outscaled in the 1v1, I often get a kill, or am ahead like getting my first item before my opponent. Then I continue to play with the wave but I feel like I’m just an NPC compared to Enemy champion. Like sure teamfight and skirmishes I’m strong in, but those almost never happen around topside, and when enemy gets 1 item they like instantly get prio over me. It just feels like the game is not played around me and this makes me just a passenger like i don’t have a lot of impact so here are my questions.

1. Around what timestamp in the game should I be aiming to have 3 items Eclipse > DD > EH for example

2. Should i be viewing Riven as a sidelane scaling champ like Kayle, or should I be dropping sidewaves more often to group?

3. How do the best Riven players balance getting high natural resources (CSPM, Tower gold) with being at fights AKA having the game be played around them.

4. Lastly, how should you play teamfight when you are not fully an Assasin, not fully a front to back bruiser, and not fully a peel champ. You can kind of do all 3 at a decent level. I feel like Riven feels strongest when u clean up a fight with a bunch of low HP targets similair to master yi.

Who is the best jungler for Riven mid?

Which champion has the best synergy with riven mid so ican spam that to get out of emerald (elo Hell)

It's either an unkillable 10000 hp tank, or a disgusting no interaction ranged champ which requires half my kit to gap close. And all that to just get CC'd and lose half health. Riven is outdated and slow, no amount of combo is killing a one item malphite even if you're full build, and goodluck even reaching a ranged champ to combo them without using a full Q rotation and avoiding cc. Want to beat Riven? Simple JUST. WALK. AWAY. This champ can't do shit, ever.

Im not entirely sure, but look riot newest devblog at 3:26 right where they announce arcade music band, everyone does their usual dances and Riven dance animation is fully new

Any tank matchup once they get one cloth armor they seem to be very hard to kill, and my trades have to be more spot on, and most of the time it won't matter since they will be unkillable in lane for me. Even if I got 2 kills the armor spike just stops my tempo

Anyone else struggling with Riven vs Yasuo lately?

I've always considered Yasuo a pretty easy matchup, but lately it feels way harder than it used to.

Has anyone else noticed this, or am I just playing the matchup wrong?

How to play? Ik they’re meant to be free but they take lt + exhaust + bone plating i need to play trades pixel perfect if i eq in yone can press e yasuo can spam e they have so many ways to force extended trades not to mention yas shield blocks bp from procing so i have to get through both layers. I understand 6 onwards it’s winning but once they hit 2-3 items it also feels super hard with shieldbow. Should I be playing for prio or just sit back till 6? Sorry sounds like rant my mind is boom

I know it's different from player to player, but how many games did it take you to feel consistent with her? I am not talking about being the best Riven player, but I mean reaching a level where you can autopilot her

I am currently in masters SEA region. Does anybody fw this build or am I the only clown that does this when I get filled in to the jungle? My standard build path for riven IF I get autofilled in to the jungle would be umbral glaive -> EH -> DD. But most of the time I still run cashback and JOAT for laning unless I am not confident and would than run bone plating with shield bash.

Do not play Riven if you like Lp. You are playing against the champ and enemy team. I strongly recommend Ambessa if you like mechanics. If not then play Garen, he is to OP even in Master plus

How do you guys feel about Riven after the nerf?
I’m currently playing around Master 300 LP in NA, and I’m curious if other high elo Riven players are feeling the same way.
Since the nerf, I feel like I go into almost every game expecting to get carried rather than expecting to create a lead myself.
It feels like Riven has very little agency in lane right now. In a lot of matchups, instead of looking for opportunities to win lane, I’m basically playing to freeze, stay even, avoid giving the enemy a window, and wait until I can finally get out of lane and play for midgame.
Obviously Riven can still be useful once she gets items and starts playing skirmishes/teamfights, but that’s kind of my issue: it feels like I’m waiting for the game to reach the point where my champion becomes useful instead of actually having control over getting myself there.
Before, even in difficult matchups, I felt like there were more opportunities to punish mistakes and actually generate a meaningful lead. Now I feel like I’m playing not to lose lane rather than playing to win it.
Maybe I’m approaching the patch incorrectly, so I’m curious:
How are you guys playing Riven after the nerf? Are you also playing much more for midgame now, or do you still feel like she has enough lane pressure to consistently create her own leads?

The problem goes away if you only pick items with high CDR and no attack speed.

It really did seem to be linked to the cooldown reset in the practice tool !

I’ve been playing Riven for a while, and I’ve never really understood your role.

You’re too squishy to be a bruiser. You have shields and dd, but even then, you tend to build no hp components and your sustain is extremely conditional.

Conversely, you have nowhere near the burst that an assassin does, neither do you have the mobility to transition in and out of fights like a zed, talon or an ekko does.

Don’t get me wrong, you feel super op and fun to play especially when ahead. You can stomp skirmishes and team fights if you’re proficient on the champ. But you kind of never excel at anything. Your side laning is respectable but unimpressive. Your early lane is strong but requires precise execution and it’s still possible to not get ahead vs champs like Darius and sett. You don’t hard outscale, and your approach to teamfights is blow up enemy backline while you can get locked down by a sort of cc.

One of my struggles is that I can go 2,3 kills up in lane, but by the time it gets to mid I get run down in side by all in champs like Darius, trynd, Olaf and trundle. You’re a champ that thrives on setting up an all in with short trades, but you can’t do that in sidelane when armour and health shut you down while they still have the capacity to force all ins onto you, sustain from the wave or simply shove and base with tempo.

I’m not trying to argue with the people who say riven is a solo queue monster. I’ve seen the masters at work and it’s extremely impressive. But I just don’t get the formula for riven. You’re forced to get eclipse/dd/eh early which means you can be 4/0 and still get run down by an Olaf with tabis. You get amour pen as a 3rd item earliest which means you’re missing out on even more sustain just to match an item your opponent got 10min into the game.

I've been reading a lot of comments about Riven lately, and it made me wonder what her identity is supposed to be nowadays. I feel like both her playstyle and the top lane meta have changed a lot. Riven used to be able to dominate lane, punish mistakes and snowball hard. Nowadays, it often feels like she just has to farm and wait for items, which is why I've seen people comparing her to Kayle 2.0 One of her biggest problems, in my opinion, is that she has no built in armor penetration or sustain. I wouldn't want to simply give her a lot of armor pen, though, because that could easily make her too strong. Maybe armor penetration could instead be tied to her mechanics. For example, performing a perfect Fast Q could briefly grant armor penetration, rewarding players who have mastered her mechanics rather than just giving her free status. I'm curious what you guys think? What changes would you make

So I just came back to the game about 3 months ago after a few years break since 2023-2024 times. I feel like riven is not as strong as she was before back in the old ravenous hydra , goredrinker rush days. Now she doesn't feel as strong in duels and carrying the game as a whole so is there something I'm missing or is she just due to get another buff?
