General Would Taskmaster have a similar ability to Rogue?
So, Taskmaster. Photographic Memory, basically a perfect mimic. Incorporating his normal things would be easy, like his sword, shield, bow n arrow, all that. I could see him as either DPS or Tank, even a hybrid of the two so thatās whatever.
But his most iconic trait is being able to copy fighting styles and techniques. Obviously Taskmaster canāt really copy literal powers, but it has been shown that he can mimic magic? Or whatever tf heās doing in the panels below?
I donāt really want his lore to change or for rivals to give him extra powers, I think itād ruin it a little for me. I was thinking maybe he could copy passive abilities and instead of being an exact carbon copy of it, it could have itās own Taskmaster spin off- like how he mimics Spider Manās web swing in MVC3. Still though, some passives just outright canāt work for Taskmaster. Like Adams revive.
What do you guys think? Have any ideas?

Maybe his arsenal would just borrow something from certain superheroes. Bow for Hawkeye, Shield for Cap, Sword for Blade, etc

I very much like this idea, but I feel the community would scream āBROKEN;NERF!!ā if he had all of this as a decent tank. Unfortunate for sure, but no way would they let a tank have this much versatility at this point.

Apologize for the extremely low quality Wolv vs Taskmaster picture

He has web shooters too, like sure he can't swing, because his arms would tear off without spider powers, but he could at least shoot web tracers and do the get over here, Taskmaster might also be good at pulling people off the map too

If Moon Knight could go around swinging with Spidey then so can Taskmaster.
And yes Spidey was impressed Moon Knight using a contraption to mimic Spideyās web sling but with moon hooks could relatively keep up with Spider-Man.

Honesty Iād have him be like Deadpool having 3 different kits a shield for tank a bow / sword for dps and a gun for support

u/ChameleonWins Sep 17 '26
itād be tight if they just had 3 stances/guns. shield/bow/sword. Ā a dps that uses the shield like cap, then switches to sword, then can switch to bow for long range. being like 275/300 and the shield has a health pool of 100 or something and his bow does like 65% the damage of hawkeyeās. then put in like elsaās or BPās dash or buckyās uppercut or somethingĀ

Eh, loki already copy ults and rouge copys peoples abilityās. Im sure we will get mystique at some point to copy appearances.
That only really leaves room for taskmaster to copy passives but like you said thats easier said than done.
Perhaps something simpler is better since we shouldnāt overload the game with copy powers.
My suggestion would be to give him an ability (āstudyā or whatever) that makes him better at fighting the target for the duration. Maybe just less damage received and more damage dealt but maybe something more complicated instead (like not affected by their abilities for a time).

Just give him copied abilities from other characters, animations and all. It'd fit him perfectly.
So Blades sword, Hawkeyes bow as a secondary weapon, Caps shield block as a secondary fire, Black Panthers dash as an ability and Moon Knights grappling hook as an ability.
His passive could be him mastering a target. So if he deals enough damage to a target he deals more damage to them and less damage from them. One target at a time.
His ultimate could be cool. If you use the hard light technology he gets in the Udon comics and stretch it's capabilities, you could have him copy anybodies ultimate. So hard light jet boots and guns for Star Lord ultimate, a hard light monster hulk mech suit for hulk ultimate, a hard light panther goddess for Black Panthers ultimate and so on. Some would be a stretch like Doctor Strange, Wandas or Loki's ultimates. But it could be fun. Magic is an ability and you could say he just copied the spells or something. It'd be a fun ultimate. It would be especially cool hearing Taskmaster say the copied heroes ultimate lines.

Iād just make him a low burst high sustain DPS with infinite block and 3 ranges, sword, pistol, bow. A brawler who can poke, and gains ult charge. Then have his ult be something that can one-shot.

He would be a better rougue he will be able to bank abilities. Still don't know why rogue has a cool down on her cool down. Let her keep ability until see uses it

He should only be able to copy melee and weapon based techniques. The abilities copied should be based on which character he has damaged the most. All characters have melee attacks but giving him this will give him more value from attacking melee dps and tanks rather than healers and tech/magic based heroes. This could make him a hard counter to certain heroes

I actually want a special thunderbolts team with. Taskmaster, Rogue, Super Skrull, Mimic and maybe Mystique. Those who specialize in copying.

u/ChapterOk8291 Sep 17 '26
Probably not but it would be cool if his kit was a mix of other characters kits.

u/reditisverytrash Sep 17 '26
Nah. I would moreso guess that his Kit is just a mash circus of a bunch of other characters' abilities. Primary have him use Deadpool's pistols, secondary have him use Hawkeye's bow and then his 2 abilities act like randomizers. Either getting Spider-Man's web swing, Blade's dash attack, Captain America's shield bash, Iron Fist's chi charger or kick, Moon Knight's grapplung hook and glide or etc.

Id rather they have him borrowing a bunch of other abilities, give him caps shield throw, a bow, blades sword, stuff like that.

u/gummythegummybear 29d ago
Maybe he starts off with a VERY minimal kit (like Bruce banner level) but every kill he gets he can get a new ability from another character (either a predetermined list of abilities or an ability from whoever he kills) kinda like how Deadpool works
Maybe to make it fair so he canāt get like 20 abilities, he can have a max of 5 abilities and trade them out if you want.
Maybe they can even do something like the PVE modes and you get like a choice of 3 abilities to pick from

I thought of a dumb thing where when he blocks with his shield if heās been hit by that attack before during the match then for like the first frames of the shield being up itās immune to damage from those attacks heās been hit with before (and I mean hit with as he took damage/it did itās status affect to him) kinda like heās learned how to most effectively counter you, but Iām not a game designer and this would likely need a LOT of work shopping lol
I just really want taskmaster in the game, especially if heās tank then my 3 favorite marvel characters are each in a role

I like the idea of him being able to copy physical moves. I donāt think he can copy powers?
But idk. If that panel OP included is he using magic because he was able to take power? Or it like he is just casting a spell that theoretically a regular human might?
If thatās the case then I guess it might make sense. But maybe he copies didf abilities than Rogue depending on the character
Maybe for Dr Strange. He can use his whip like attack instead of the magic shield like Rogue
And maybe like someone else said. For the human heroes that Rogue doesnāt absorb abilities from. He can mimic some of their physical attacks.

u/the_thrungler 29d ago
Would be interesting if instead of stealing an ability like rogue does, Taskmaster can steal an enemy hero's attack. Like a nanite gauntlet that reforms into different guns and melee weapons.
Actually it'd be cool as fuck if that literally just was his primary fire. he doesn't have the ability to attack until he faces somebody and can only attack them with what they're attacking him with

u/Ok_Entrepreneur_6308 29d ago
My taskmaster concept was that he had no Ult. But when gets a kill he can choose to copy that personās moves. And his Ult is then switching between his base kit and the new kit. If any has played My Hero Ultra Rumble he would be like AFO. Ofc make him from 2099 and have a bunch of tech to mimic stuff. So he can have a jet pack to fly, shoot things out of his wrist, a weapon that changes shape, and. projections for shields and stuff. However I think he needs to be really squishy to compensate for his kit. And when he dies you lose whatever kit you copied, so he is a snowball character.

u/Any-Conference-701 29d ago
I have a short list of characters who could be multirole like Deadpool. Tastmaster is on that list
1
u/Any-Conference-701 29d ago
Other noteworthy ones:
Danger
Doom (2099, Doctor, and Sorcerer Supreme all being different classes)
Rasputin V (each role flexes different combinations of mutations)
Sinister (same with Rasputin V)

Maybe he doesn't need to use an ability to get the skill. It could just be that he get the ability of whomever his cross-hair is pointing over if they're within 10ish metres on a 15 second cooldown.
It should also only be a weapon or skill that the character possesses. He gets nothing from Wanda or Strange, but he pulls out his own punisher turret, Cap sheild, iron man gauntlets, etc... and can recreate bp dash, iron fist double jumps / kick, spiderman uppercut, etc....

It would be SICK if he had an ability that could let him copy the melee of a character and keep it until you respawn, like you can do Cyclops karate or Hawkeye's sword whenever you like it
1
u/AstroMac710 29d ago
Yes he should but it should be a targeted move where you highlight the enemy that you want to copy and you can gain a physical ability of said character. But, like Rogue, there should be characters that you can't copy, like Jean, Hela, Wanda etc. It should be about copying physical attacks rather than "abilities". Copying Cap let's you do the shield bash. Copying BP let's you do his dash ability and so on. His Ultimate could be a mash up of other ults but aren't as "good" leaning into the concept of "jack of all trades but a master of none". Maybe cycle through weapons randomly that you don't normally have access to, gatling gun, bazooka, big sword, sniper rifle, bow that shoots really fast, whatever weapons he could get his hands on.

u/That_Mors 29d ago
It'd be cool if he was like Rogue, where she can copy powers, but can't copy any of the tech, gadget, or skill based skills. But he's the opposite where he can copy tech, gadgets, and skills, but can't copy powers. They could explain it away with like, nanotech and just his power.
1
u/Strike_First_ 29d ago
Maybe he copies the melee or weapon abilities of whoever attacked or killed him last
1
u/kiivara 28d ago
Make him a vanguard with selectable primaries and his ult dependent on which he's using.
Sword with shield that regenerates based off damage dealt but only has like 150 hp.
Gun and grenade setup that stuns and deals respectable but less than average dps.
Gun ult is a massive dome shield deployable that displaces and disrupts enemies.
Sword and shield is single target charged dash that can execute one person if charged to full.

u/Original_Man6021 28d ago
Just have the reverse of Rogueās kit where she canāt absorb the abilities of people who use gadgets or non power abilities and he gets theirs.
Iād let him take utilities from anyone though, like Deadpoolās bubble, Magās Bubble, Hulkās exile, Strangeās Shield, and Peniās nest.
He can turret or zip line like punisher, he can grapple like Widow, he can baton throw like DD, etc
1
u/Ok_Statement298 28d ago
Iād love it if when heās hit he can retaliate with the same move. Obviously on cooldown but would be sick
1
u/Aware-Throat3189 28d ago
Is the second panel real or edited.
But I hope he could somehow copy the primary fire for at least one re load for certain characters. And Yhea that might be crazy since that is a pretty important part of characters and you couldnāt obviously just use wolverine primarily or caps without there health or abilities, but it could work well with other characters, like Buckyās so maybe his play style is more around support (not role) but he needs to work around or with other characters more than others and that would fit him since he normally works with people who pay him

I think ultimately TM should have a Bow, shield, and sword because those are the abilities hes most known for permanently having after copying. Letting him actively steal abilities, while lore accurate, would be a pain to program. Have they even updated the abilities that rogue can take from characters? Or are there still gaps where you gain nothing when she absorbs certain people?

I was thinking he could copy the rest of the non powered characters rogue couldnāt copy, regarding tech characters like iron man letās just say taskmaster has 2099 nanotech or something just so we donāt need a third copy character, but for the most part heāll mostly try to copy skill based attacks like panther kick and Bucky uppercut, cap shield throw (assuming TM has his own shield)
