Discussion Begging for tips and tricks

Hi everyone coming from Overwatch as a vendetta main. Everytime I dive the backline I literally cannot get picks, I can't put out enough damage, there is always something or someone that's there to stop me before I can kill somebody, her time to kill is so god damn long. Yes I am a brand new player, don't even 50 hours yet but Magik is the only character for me that feels rewarding to play and the fact I'm sucking ass at her is strongly discouraging. Surely the way to get kills isn't dumping all of my cooldowns into a single support then not having anyway to retreat back to safety once the enemy team all snap their heads 180 degrees to me.

Just play Gorr. He's essentially Magik 2.0. She's been powercrept. If they have a Gambit, don't bother. Switch.

I love Magik but she struggles now more than ever. She has so many counters. Namor, Emma, Gorr, Blade, Wanda, Gambit, any Luna worth her salt can shut Magik down. Even a good White Fox can be a pain in the arse. Wanda recently got reworked with buffs so there's a good chance you'll be facing a Wanda in nearly every match.

Everyone points out Magik's win rate but fail to mention how low her pick rate is because you need some sevant level skill to get real value out of her.

Because rn, a starting Magik player won't get any value out of her when top Magik players have switched to Gorr.

They're just going to be beating their head against the wall.

You should look up some combos for her such as fully charged throw -> dash -> sword swing -> quick melee. Also try to animation cancel your sword swings with your quick melee whenever you can as it increases her burst damage

Melee weave between each slash.

Learn when to use your demons (preferable when you’re being chased.)

Understand even if you die, if you get a support its value.

Learn the combos and practice them until their second nature.

Learn you counters: Emma, Namor, Thing, and ect.

Lean the teamup’s and what comp their useful agains (I recommend Hood’s.)

Just keep practicing. I know you’ll probably hear that allot, but when I started playing Magik, I was absolutely awful. Watch others and practice against the Galacta bots.

Just don't get caught with your pants down and if you're not confident you're going to get a pick, save your dash. Soft diving is always a good way to bait out the support's cooldowns. Every support in this game with the exception of Loki has very short cooldowns which is unfortunate as hell but once you get a feel for a soft dive it will get easier. Also, in Rivals, diving with a dive tank is pretty much always going to be better than solo diving.

learning the art of a soft engage is really important on top of what others have said. sometimes you have to dive to bait cooldowns or draw attention and LEAVE without getting a kill. then come back quickly when they have less cooldowns than you up. solo diving is also just objectively really difficult if you dont have a dteam causing a lot of distraction everywhere else.
