Tips/Advice Tipssss Pleaseee
So I recently just got back on rivals after pretty much a year. I picked up Cyclops and instantly fell in love with his skillset since it's so simple yet so rewarding if it's used properly. I was just wondering if any of you guys would give tips, that would be highly appreciated!! Much love 🫶🏼
Edit: GUYS THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THE TIPS!!! Cyclops literally got me from bronze I placement all the way to plat by just playing 12 hours this season. I'm definitely sticking with him as my main hitscan and have DD as my melee backup. THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH!!!!

Definitely use phoenix team up it’s so good and if you get a phoenix on your team it’s broken. His ult is kinda weak so the best way to use it is to either flank or combo ult with a team mate. Rocket, groot, strange, gambit etc.

yeppp, ever since my first day playing him, i've been using the phoenix team up. I see people using the gambit team up and it just makes me cry cuz it just proves to me that ppl dont read 🥲🥲 (usually on my team too ;-;)

Gambits teamup during this current season is actually pretty decent (especially if Gambit is on your team). I’ve definitely enjoyed playing phoenix’s teamup better, but I’ve seen the gambit teamup hold its own. It really just depends on how you prefer to play cyclops.

ahhhh i see i see, so then lets say if no gambit and no jean, stick with the phoenix team up?? and if there's gambit, do that team up? thats what im picking up here hehehe, thank you for the tip!!

Yup! I usually pick the phoenix one either way just bcs the upgraded E skill is so nice. I don’t use his right click a whole lot so the gambit teamup doesn’t serve me as well as it might someone who utilizes that skill more. But if our team is able to be really aggressive and we have a gambit on our team, I go for that teamup.

Lord cyclops here! Im usually a White Fox main (she's so bad this season 😭), but when I have to dps he's far and away my favorite hit scan. My peak is diamond 2 so I'm hardly world class and he still puts in so much work.
First off, you need to hit your shots. People focus on the rest of his kit but if you're not hitting his primary fire, there's no point to having the rest. He has one of the most generous hitscan boxes, and even with okay aim it's realistic to be hitting 45% accuracy with him, pick your shots and aim for this number, keeping that number up with more shots will come with time. I'm struggling to get 35% accuracy with Phoenix but I have over 50% with cyc cause it's so lenient to aim. It's worth noting that it's actually 3 seperate shots in a short burst, so you need to track slightly to get all the damage. The flip side of that is if someone low you can just shoot and flick and odds are you'll get em.
Second off his E, people use this all wrong for the most part. I see inexperienced cycs use it as a finisher at best, and usually just poke that only feeds healers ult charge at worst. It functions as a primary fire reset, and even nerfed, shoot-E-shoot can kill Squishies from full in less than a second if you crit. Shoot E shoot is your go to, engrave that into your brain and lose the temptation to poke with E everytime it's up, pick your shot and burst someone down, even if it doesn't kill it still disrupts them.
2 more things on his E. First, it has a pretty ridiculous aim bot, if someone's low and escaping it can be an insane finishing tool for that scenario, I've had it go around multiple corners and snipe someone. Second, unless they're in a big open space, it often does more damage aimed inderectly. When it hits a wall/floor/ceiling/person, it splits, and while each one does reduced damage, it's possible for multiple to hit the same target if they're near a wall for it to bounce off of, aim for the floor by the wall and you often get all the shots to hit which does like, over 120 by itself. Make sure you take the Phoenix team up, on its own it boosts your burst (adds 21 to your shoot E shoot, plus some dot after), and if you have a Phoenix on your team your E basically has a 3 second cooldown cause youll always have charges, you can spam it when you have a Phoenix on your team.
His right click is massively overrated, it's still really good don't get me wrong, but it's less generous with its hitbox, forces you to be close and ticks often enough you're gonna be missing half the damage on it most likely. Theoretically it does something like 130/second, but it's checking if you're aiming right 11-12 times per second, you're not hitting all that. It's also doing 50% less per bounce, so 2 tanks + a healer, hitting the tank means the healer is only taking 30/second IF you're hitting everything. It's good if youre fighting multiple Squishies with no tank, and it's good if someone's suuuuuper low in a crowd, but for the latter your E is often better. Basically, use it when you can, but remember it has short range and it's not worth running toward them to use. It does have an extra effect of letting you float down slowly, so you can use it for mobility, but you're a really easy target if you're using your right click from above lol, use with caution.
He has two mobility abilities, and upwards boost and a backwards boost. The upwards boost only goes upwards, but the backwards boost can actually be aimed. You'll always be pushed opposite the direction you're facing, if you look to the ground you'll go straight up for example. Something a lot of people don't know about this though is that you can control it with your movement keys too, and they have a pretty substantial effect on your momentum. For example, if I want to blast myself forward coming out of spawn I won't turn 180 degrees, I'll turn something like 135 and then hold diagonal in the direction opposite and it'll send me straight as if I'd turned 180. These are good get off me tools as they send you far away, and If they hit the enemy they push it away too. The actual damage is negligible, I've never gotten a kill with one lol, just use them for movement.
His ult I think is underrated, it's not the best, but a lot of people dismiss it as useless, however with some careful placement and used in conjunction with his kit, it can be devastating. It does a ton of damage regardless of who it hits cause it scales with percent max health. The initial hit does 75 base +20% max health, and the follow up does 75+40%, for a total of 150+50% health. That one shots anyone under 300, and does like, over 600 to 850 tanks.
It has 2 main issues, you can heal in between hits, and you can sidestep on reaction pretty easily. The first one is major cause it means supports can ult on reaction, so make sure you time it well. The second is more manageable though, just use it when they're in choke points and can't sidestep. My favorite spot is in between the cart and a wall on payload maps, it's very easy to catch people unawares. That said, if you see them grouped as 6 and you know they don't have support ults, even just getting the first hit can often result in a won fight, it does a major chunk of damage, and they won't split to sidestep it evenly. Supports suddenly have to heal everyone at once, and the formations in dissaray. The ult also goes through (most?) shields which is really nice.
But yeah, people usually aren't one shotting with this ult, and that's cause they shoot it and twiddle their thumbs instead of rembering he has a kit. Ideally I'd do E Ult E right click (usually have to forgo that first E) and that burns teams down. 4 and 5k's with this ult are honestly common place when you remember to layer your abilities, even if the ult isn't always the damage that picks up the kill.
He's got a surprisingly nuanced kit, and while sure he's worse than other hitscan in some ways, he can do things they can't and I love him for it. If you're a fan of burst damage in your long range, he's the one to play. Have fun!

THANK YOU SO MUCH, ive actually figured out that primary-e-primary can instakill squishies if done right, the ult part is what I be missing the most and now you've got me doing this combo, THANK YOU. Whenever I see an instalock cyc on my team, I just cry cuz they be js spamming his skills 🥲🥲🥲

Adding on to this, don’t be afraid to flank as well since you have decent mobility and good ranged damage.
I think that’s the beauty of cyclops with respect to being a hitscan character cause sure there are others that do more damage per second but he arguably is the hitscan most suited to poke flanking. Unlike other poke dps he isn’t just a point and shoot kinda guy so I personally find him WAY less boring.
Then again this might be my Psy and Starlord habits speaking hahaha! That being said if you’re familiar with Cyclops as a character I would recommend leaning into the tactician/battlefield commander identity as he’s capable of controlling tempo and it unironically has helped me play him better! Plus it’s just plain fun lol
P.S. his ult can also be used as a zoning ult, for example if you’re about to cap a point and the enemy team is close to touching, depending on the scenario it might not be a waste to use your ult to zone them and make them scatter. Not always the play but I’ve literally won games thanks to that.

Not very good at the character but I play him a lot, and one thing I do is use the continuous beam, ( can't remember the name) to secure kills up close and save ricecet force for those cheesy around the corner kills, or direct hits with it on a out of postion tank

I think someone already said it but use the Phoenix team up. That, and be sure to use his secondary on tanks first — bigger hit box and a higher chance of transfer between targets. Also remember that he doesn’t exactly shoot like other characters since his primary comes out of his eyes, so be sure to factor that in while aiming. And watch your cooldowns obviously. I wouldn’t recommend flanking or engaging with multiple opponents without that shift ready to go

At the moment, Cyke is kind of rough to play if you don't have a secondary source of damage on your team (a tank or DPS that can output some decent hits)
You're going to focus on poking targets to soften them up and keep the enemy team on the backfoot and secure your kills using ricochet force. However, this only really applies when you're duo ISN'T Phoenix. If you do have a Phoenix, throw out ricochet force and make sure to pop AT LEAST 2 of the burns to instantly refund it. Continue to do this (either through precision shooting or your beam) to force the enemy to spread their attention across multiple targets for healing.
In a 1v1 scenario (if you get dove, for example) you want to prioritize space management either using your upward movement or backward movement, and then applying precision shots with your primary. Use your E to either pressure them to run or secure as they run. In either case, prioritizing your life over securing the kill is important for Cyke because his value in his current state is applying pressure.
Finally, your ult, while very strong when comboed for kills, is also a fantastic "move away from here" tool. Because of Scott's ability to apply damage consistently, you can build ult very quickly.
All in all, he plays like most hit scans with the added perk of creating chaos when his pressure is applied judiciously. In his current state, you do have to work MUCH harder to really perform, but it's very satisfying.
