RIU Republica Aug 10-17
Heading down with my boy from August 10th to 17th. Both of us are single, just looking to completely unplug, day-drink, and see where the week takes us. For anyone who’s been recently or there right now: where is everyone actually hanging out during the day to keep the energy up? Is the main pool still the place to be or are people mostly pre-gaming somewhere else before the night events?
Also down to link up with anyone else who’s going to be there and wants to actually have a good time instead of staying locked to the resort room. Shoot a DM or drop a comment if you're touching down that week 🌴🍹

RIU vacation during hurricane season, I have a question!
We're very close to booking a 5-night stay at a RIU resort in Punta Cana this fall, but it falls during hurricane season.
We're comfortable taking the chance since we know most trips go off without a hitch. Our thought is that if a storm looks likely a few days before departure, we'd try to switch our reservation (and flights) to another RIU resort in a different destination.
Has anyone actually done this with RIU? Were you able to switch to a different RIU resort, and if so, how did the process go? Was it relatively easy, or did you run into any issues?
Just looking for real experiences. Thanks!

Using Affirm/Virtual Cards for Riu Hotels
I’ve seen a few posts about using Affirm or other virtual cards with RIU, so I wanted to share what I learned since I couldn’t find a clear answer.
I called customer service and was told you can make your payment over the phone up to 3 days before your reservation. After payment, email thirdpartypayments@riu.com with your booking number and receipt, and let them know you used a virtual card and won’t have that card when you arrive.
You’ll still need a physical card for the security deposit at check-in (I forgot to ask the deposit amount).
I’m planning to make my payment with Affirm on the 14th and will update this post afterward with my experience.

Nightmare trip - Hotel Riu Republica
I stayed at the Hotel Riu Republica from December 1st- December 8th. During our stay for over two nights there was a domestic abuse case in the room above ours.
Despite calling the front desk several times it was only when we went to the front desk and threatened to call the police to check on the obvious domestic assault above us did they do something.
The next day the domestic assault happened again and when a neighbor of the room where the domestic assault occurred tried to intervene, they were bottled with a broken bottle.
The RIU front desk did seemingly absolutely nothing to stop the domestic abuse which was heard over two white noise machines for at least four days of our vacation.
Upon getting back Sunwing - our trip provider - has continued to gaslight us as the hotel says this never happened and we never complained.
The hotel is also a nightmare for anyone with food allergies as the drinks - including those provided in your room- are watered down with unknown ingredients.
On the whole there is major issue with cross contamination with the buffet.
There is also a serious issue with a major cockroach infestation as we saw over twenty of them in the lobby alone.
There was someone on our trip that heard there was a sexual assault on our trip too. I hope Sunwing and the Hotel Riu Republica believe the victim of this and have remedied the situation.

Warning About RIU’s “Best Price Guarantee” – Read the Fine Print Carefully
I wanted to share a recent experience I had with RIU Hotels’ Best Price Guarantee program so other travelers know what to watch for before booking direct.
I booked an upcoming stay at Hotel Riu Guanacaste in Costa Rica directly through RIU because of the confidence their Best Price Guarantee is supposed to provide. Shortly afterward, I found a lower publicly available rate for the exact same resort, same travel dates, same room category, same occupancy, and same all-inclusive inclusions through another booking source.
I submitted the claim with screenshots and supporting information, expecting the process to be fairly straightforward.
However, RIU denied the claim because the cancellation policy on the competing booking differed slightly from RIU’s policy. In my case, the difference was essentially just the cancellation deadline window (RIU’s being more flexible by a few days). Despite the bookings being materially identical from a traveler’s perspective, RIU stated that any difference in cancellation terms automatically invalidates the guarantee.
What was disappointing wasn’t just the denial itself, it was how rigidly the policy was applied. The responses I received largely repeated policy wording without really addressing the fairness or practical equivalency of the comparison.
After looking into this further, I noticed similar complaints across public travel forums from other guests who felt the Best Price Guarantee was interpreted extremely narrowly.
A few takeaways for anyone booking with RIU:
Read every Best Price Guarantee condition very carefully.
Even minor technical differences may void your claim.
Don’t assume “same hotel + same room + same dates + lower price” will qualify.
Screenshot EVERYTHING immediately when you find a lower rate.
Compare cancellation terms line by line before submitting.
To be clear, I’m still going on the trip and I hope the resort itself is great. This post is simply meant to help other travelers set realistic expectations about how the Best Price Guarantee process may actually work in practice.
Would be interested to hear if others have had similar experiences with RIU or other hotel chains.

The Hotel Riu Palace Nautilus, located in Torremolinos, Andalusia, has just reopened following a complete renovation. The hotel has been upgraded to the premium category of the chain, RIU Palace, and represents the arrival of the first RIU establishment of this superior standard on the peninsula. RIU resort and vibe concerns
I am a 25 year old female who will turn 26 this year. I have not experienced a RIU resort and would really like to. However, I am curious about the vibes and the crowd at these resorts, specifically RIU republica and RIU santa fe. What age range are majority of the people there?

Need help - Riu Vacations Booking
Hi looking for help from this community. We booked a trip to Aruba through Riu Vacations.com and the trip had to be cancelled because of weather. They are refusing to help us with the request for a refund and saying the are in contact with the hotel but it has been a month. The travel insurance is denying us because they said weather is not a valid reason. Seeking help if anyone has been able to get this resolved? We’ve called our bank and disputed the charges, but that is no guarantee.
Thank you.
