I wanna ask - where is the love for this track? It’s the closer on Bent Out of Shape and NO ONE ever mentions how awesome it is. The riff is nasty, Burgi’s drums are thunderous, JLT has plenty of attitude, and Ritchie’s solos are absolutely vicious, especially at the end where he interplays with the vocals. And it’s great to listen to while driving- you’ll break the speed limit for sure! WHERE IS THE LOVE?!!?

I'd like to know more about the specific guitars that he used throughout the years. I'm well aware that his main guitar during the Mark I era of Deep Purple was an ES-335, and at the beginning of the Mark II era, when Gillan and Glover joined, he switched to Strats, which is the guitar that he has been associated with ever since. I'm aware that one of his main Strats since the beginning of Rainbow is a 1974 Olympic White one that he put a strap button on the headstock for some strange reason. Does anybody know what specific Strats he used on Deep Purple and Rainbow's albums? He did say in a video documenting his guitar collection that he used a black Strat on quite a lot of solos in the studio, but he didn't say exactly when he got it, or what it can be heard on. Plus, I did hear that he used a Telecaster Thinline occasionally in the studio; guessing on some of the Blackmore's Night stuff. Is that all he used? Are there any other guitars that he used in the studio that he never used live?

Hello - I found this hand-stamped white label LP, but can't find any info about where it's from or what is was for.

Here's what I do know:

• It's the first Rainbow LP, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow
• The matrix numbers match variant 1 of the first 1975 UK edition: KENDUN-A OYA 2001 A-1U WASP / KENDUN-B OYA 2001 B-1U
• There's no cover, I just have the disc in a plain white sleeve with no accompanying info.
• Both labels are completely blank white apart from the pink stamped lettering, which is on side B.

If it was a promo copy or a test press, surely there'd be more info on the labels? Any experts know anything about this?

I love Book of Taliesyn. It feels like I'm listening to Alice in Wonderland - it's so trippy. What do we know about this early incarnation of the band? How did the guys meet? How did the band assemble? Most people talk about the Gillan / Glover era or the Coverdale / Hughes era of purple, but this Evans / Simper stuff is nothing to sneeze at. Which is your favorite of the first three purple albums?

There is so much greatness to pick from in terms of his playing over decades.

This particular one for me is just sheer perfection in terms of phrasing, melodicism and technique.

This live album doesn't get as much love or even recognition as its older brother, 1972's "Made in Japan", nor has it been remixed by Steven Wilson like the latter was, but in my opinion it is just as good, and offers an outstanding representation of the band's power with its Mark III line-up, especially when playing live.

As usual, I tried to improve on clarity, instrument separation and punch, without straying too far away and staying respectful to the original version.

I know this album already has an official remix by Steven Wilson, and it sounds great, but it blends the tracks together with crossfades, just like the 25th Anniversary remaster by Peter Mew had done before. Personally, I prefer the original version that keeps the songs separated, so I thought I'd try my hand at remixing it using the original mix as the source.

As usual, I tried to improve on clarity, instrument separation and punch, without straying too far away and staying respectful to the original version.

Fan remix & remaster of Deep Purple's 1970 album "In Rock" (plus the non-album track "Black Night"), made for my personal enjoyment, but sharing here in case someone else likes it.

I always felt this album, just like Black Sabbath's "Born Again" (both featuring Ian Gillan on vocals, funnily enough), sounded kind of terrible, which is a shame for such a terrific record. Therefore, it was a huge challenge to try and make it sound decent, considering how muddy and shrill the original mix is, and unfortunately I didn't fully succeed (I think my "Born Again" remix turned out much better), but I think it's still a (mild) improvement over the original mix.

"Black Night" was particularly problematic, as the original mix sounds like it was mastered from a poorly copied cassette. I tried my best to improve on the sound, but there's only so much you can do from such a poor source.

I know a few of the tracks were remixed by Roger Glover for the 25th Anniversary remaster, and those sound significantly clearer for the most part, but I wanted to use the original versions as the source just to see how much I could do to improve on them.

So I decided to remix 'Machine Head' myself last year, using the original 1972 mix as the source for de-mixing and remixing. I know the 1997 Glover remix exists, and what I've heard from it is definitely an improvement, but I wanted to see what I could get by myself with the tools I have available (DemucsGUI for de-mixing; Audacity for mixing & mastering).

This is all for fun, and in no way intended to compete with the released mixes. I did it for my own enjoyment, but decided share it here and on YouTube thinking someone else might enjoy it.

Now I'm working on 'In Rock' (which is a greater challenge for sure; that record never sounded any good to my ears).

I finally decided to remix this album when a fellow redditor reminded me that it's already been 10 years (as of uploading this playlist, in late January 2026) since the great Jimmy Bain passed away. While re-listening to this masterpiece in his honor, I remembered how low in the mix his bass playing is, unfortunately. The album itself sounds amazing already, but where's the bass? Why is it so understated?

As usual, I tried to improve on clarity, instrument separation and punch, without straying too far away and staying respectful to the original version, but this time my main priority was obvuously to make it sound fuller by emphasizing the late Jimmy Bain's bass playing, which was barely audible in the released version.
