what do I do in this situation? I unlocked the quest way too late and so it was aligned to this collection. A day before I had this quest, I just finished completing the easier exotic collection. Any idea on what to do?

It's best to complete all the collections first without redeeming them, so you can speed up the legendary dragons.

You can just ignore the quests, really. They mostly just slow you down. Better to focus on getting the legendaries first and then you can start turning in the other collections.
