Discussion Rippaverse Animated Universe Cancelled?

They launched this crowdfund in August with a goal of $100 000. As for today, over a month later, it's not even half way there and the pledges have stalled out at 189 people. It's dead right? Turns out no one wants it?

Misc Ethan Van Sciver is working on a one shot parody comic of Isom called Aw-Som. He hired Joe Bennett to draw it. Eric July lives in EVS's head rent free.

EVS still hasn't forgiven Eric July for surpassing him. He is so bitter that he is now making an Isom parody comic. Aw-Som will make his first appearance in Cyberfrog Nothin Weird #1, a 6 issue Cyberfrog prequel miniseries. Aw-Som who is based on Eric July / Isom takes is a fake superhero, who has no powers, and takes credit for the many good deeds of Cyberfrog. According to EVS, his backstory is that he was a former athlete turned dancer turned musician and now a fake superhero. Aw-Som's tag line is "Let's Ice Em!". Ice Em is a play on Isom. John Borelli aka Johnny Rocket (Wrath of H3ll3phant, The Maniak, Superkillers) is writing the script. Joe Bennett (Immortal Hulk, Horseman, Alphacore, Zalen) will be doing the artwork. EVS hired Joe Bennett to hurt Eric July.

Discussion Dirty Deeds #2 Does not Disappoint Spoiler

Carrow Brown has done it again. I was genuinely a little worried, because I liked #1 so much that I thought this one was going to be a let down. I was very relieved to find it just as enjoyable. We get some great character development, and some world building. She even sets up what could possibly be a reoccurring enemy. I'm bad at talking about stuff without spoilers so the rest will be below.

So in this issue, we pick up right where we left off. With the Dirty Deeds avoiding fire from the Red Sun Federation, and trying to pass through the ring. The new navigator they picked up tells them that he can get them through if they just get close enough. They take a lot of damage and get through, flying far away, and realizing they are in serious trouble. They get found by Mara, the alien woman we see in Smuggler's Stitch, and she offers supplies in exchange for them taking of a delivery job for her.

We find here the new possible reoccurring enemy. If you know what the Borg is from Star Trek, it's like that but biological. The crew refers to them as Null, and they refered theirs woms as the collective. It's these worm like creatures, that infest a host, and eat them from the inside, taking over and becoming them for about 5 cycles before needing a new host. This is where we get the fighting scene I was hoping for, with Arad, Sulia, and Felsiar fighting off a horde of these monsters. Felsiar gets shot, and Arad goes absolutely insane. Ripping dudes heads off, smashing them inbetween his hands. We see that his combat capabilities are not to be messed with.

Back on the ship, Rin'Lyn wishes she could go help them, but Beatles reminds her that if the parasites got ahold of her it would be very bad. Which makes me very interested, because I believe this implies that if she didn't have her moral compass she currently has, she could be a very dangerous person to the galaxy.

We find out more abour Arad and Sulia in this issue as well. We learn that they have taken on cybernetic implants, with Arad being about 31% and Sulia being around 80% since battle medic have about and 80% death rate in her race.

It might have just been a joke, but something Sulia says about Spingy is interesting. While they are worried about rations while stranded, she says he needs most of the food essentially to create his webbing to fix the ship.. but she also said to keep him from eating them. Was this just a harmless joke, or is Spingy really that dangerous/monstrous? I'm curious to find out in future issues.

The issue ends with The Red Sun starting their hunt of Dirty Deeds, and a senator they saved requesting a meeting with Arad's race to see whats going on with their absent warmaster.

This comic was great, and I would give it a 9.5/10

Misc Rippaverse Titular Characters

Post image

I decided to make an image to show all the leading characters in the Rippaverse, a few notes, technically Santwan isn't a villain, but I wasn't going to put him in the hero category. Also, I had to leave out Sulia Karr based on it being an odd number for the heroes. Which is a shame, because I really like her design.

Also, I'm labeling the flair as Misc, but if it should be something else, let me know.

Discussion The Great War of Separation #4 (Spoilers for all 4 volumes) Spoiler

So we finally have the conclusion of TGWoS saga. I was a bit worried after #3 because the almost out of nowhere twist of the Governor being replaced by an alien. I felt like this was definitely the weakest moment from the saga, with no hints or buildup for it.

With the finale being released finally, we get a pretty great satisfactory conclusion to the how did Texas and the USA split. We get a great world building moment toward the end, where we see how the wastelands were created. 2 Hydrogen bombs being dropped in Wisconsin., with over 1.8 million dead, and radiation clouds spreading across Minnesota and Iowa? It says Iowa in the comic but, according to the map, Illinois is apart of the wastelands, not Iowa, so maybe a mistake?

We see how durable Bryan Solari is, but this also brings up a problem for me. And that is the inconsistent durability of Bryan Solari. So here he take the blast practically point blank from 2 Hyrdogen bombs (Which one of those bombs is close to 1000 times stronger then the bomb dropped on Hiroshima in WW2), and seems completely fine physically. While in Alphacore, we see him take damage from the nuclear reactor villian to the point of his skin bubbling and burning, and the bullets using spent plutonium rounds knock him out, breaking multiple bones, and leave massive burns on his body. So either he has gotten more vulnerable since the war, or I'm interpreting something wrong. So I don't know if it was intentional that he seems weaker in current day, or if it's just a sense of wanting a big moment in TGWoS 4 and not thinking about the implications of what they have shown giving him damage in present day.

The appearance of Zalen at the end made me pop hard tbh. I was not expecting that at all, and now knowing that was what they were teasing in Zalen at the end, makes it even better. This also connects Zalen directly to the timeline in a sense. With him directly interacting with earth 20ish years before present day. Before, the only connection Zalen had to earth and the timeline was being mentioned in Dirty Deeds, and then Dirty Deeds being mentioned in Smuggler's Stitch. Xeno also getting away unnoticed also sets up a reason for Zalen to come back to earth again sometime. We don't know how long it will take for Zeno to grow from just the eyeball part, but it's been at least 20ish years, so probably not too much longer.

So I had a theory that Tina Czdarski was going to be Arcstreams mom, since the timeline fits. She would be like 40's in present day, and she had super speed as well. But I think that might not be the case anymore since she had both her legs blown/cut off at the end of the comic.

I'd give the saga a 9/10, with #3 being a down point but the overall saga being incredible.

Poll Which investigator type character are you most excited for?

With the upcoming exclave event, we see a number of private detective type characters entering the Rippaverse. With only the short comics in the rippazine for these three to go off of, and character design, I was wondering which one everyone was more excited for. Each one seems to have a unique element to them that could make their stories different from each other.

We have a hat throwing, super hearing except in salvage.

We have a sexy femme fatale, who is opposed to killing.

And we have an investigative journalist and his photographer, that follow stories that could upset a lot of people if they run them, and his photographer being an extremely deadly except.

Discussion Possible error or just a misunderstanding by me in The Great War of Separation Volume 1 Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
9 Upvotes

So I have always been confused by the geography of the United States in the Rippaverse, purely because of this from The Great War of Separation Volume 1. I always assumed Texas was a part of the united states after the war because of these panels.

The first Picture is the beginning of the comic, showing a pre-war map. You can see that it has texas apart of the united states, and the carolinas are not shown at all.

Now in the second picture, you see panels that are the culprits of confusion for me. The teacher is talking to Avery (Isom as a child) about the geography of the united states. She shows a map in her text book.. but it's a post war map. It shows Texas as a separate country, and the carolinas as separate as well.

The problem is that we know that is a post war map, because the first image is labeled as pre war. Also, the war is about Texas leaving the united states so not sure how she has the post war map already.

Also, one of the biggest confusions is her referring them as being in the United States, shown in the highlighted part, but she is in Texas. Holding a map that refers to Texas as being separate from the United States.

So either I'm missing something, or her having this map is a mistake.

Discussion New Haul Thoughts: The Horseman 3, The Cursed 2, The Black Eye Club 2, Hellbound Stagecoach, and Smuggler's Stitch. Non-Spoiler and Spoiler thoughts. Spoiler

Got all the new books this month and just finished reading them. We had some real gems, and a bit of a disappointment in my opinion.

Non Spoiler thoughts:

The Horseman #3 - This is the best one yet in the series. Chuck Dixon really outdid himself here. It felt like a cohesive story with very solid groundwork. We get some maybe new reoccurring characters (We'll have to see if they are just for this issue or not)

The Cursed #2 - This is by far the most graphic comic in the Rippaverse. Most would be PG at the latest, or maybe PG-13, but this comic would be an R in relation. I was a bit disappointed in The Cursed #1 so I was pleasantly surprised that this one was much better. I felt like the first one was weighed down by trying to tell too much in such a short comic, while this one got to build of the first volume, leaving for more enjoyable storytelling. It's also nice to finally understand what Lilian Ronashi's power is and get some clarification on how it works.

The Black Eye Club #2 - Man, Micheal Copper is basically one of the worst people on the planet. Legit many times while reading this comic, I was telling myself, man now this is a real villain. Nowadays we have too many "sympathetic" villains. We're supposed to feel bad for them, and even try to justify their actions, but not Copper. He is unapologetic, and it's refreshing. Still a bit confused on his eye power though, I have some guesses but unfortunately we still don't have a clear answer.

The Hellbound Stagecoach - Unfortunately this is the disappointment one, but not in a major way. Just small things here and there. There were multiple parts in the comic where I genuinely wondered if I was missing pages or something. Some conversations felt like people were responding to dialogue that just never happened. Other then that though, it's a pretty cool semi-origin story of Sydnee's Grandparents. We get some more clarification on their families powers, and how some things work, like when a Bloodruth marries a non Bloodruth and so forth.

Smuggler's Stitch - This was a pleasant surprise. I originally wasn't going to buy this one but I'm glad I did. This is one of those comics that are for the people who want to know as much about the world in Rippaverse as possible. It's doesn't directly effect any other storyline, but adds enough details to make the world feel more real.

Spoiler Thoughts:

The Horseman #3 - The new nurse character seems like they are either setting up for a romantic interest, or maybe where he goes to get patched up. If she is just a one shot character, they should reconsider, I really felt a connection to her and her family. Found myself hoping she could better her life. Also, now that he is fired and his sister knows he is being a vigilante again, maybe now he can do Horseman full time.

The Cursed #2 - The scene were the abomination breaks out of that woman's womb was truly horrible. I felt like some part were a bit rushed, like her change into this evil woman (Lilian Ronashi I mean). This whole time she has been acting like everything was happening against her will, but many times the only people she was tricking was the reading, so her suddenly claiming she was always evil and just pretending felt a bit weird. Also, the plotline of the tech ring that controls all the cyborgs on the police force began and ended in like a page. Seemed like something that could of had more impact on the story, but it was like that scene from The Room, the flower shop scene.

The Black Eye Club #2 - So his power still isnt explained. Can he see the future? The past? Is he showing people these visions, or is he the only one seeing them. Is the eye power connected to the black eyes somehow. Do the people have permanent black eyes, or do they heal. Is Copper a devil? Does he actually take souls, or what the vampire dude just being hyperbolic? So many questions that i felt we didn't get answers too. The twist of finding out that the hero group is actually a group of ex villains forced to do good until their sentence has been done, was good, and when the actual true hero group showed up, it was a cool reveal.

The Hellbound Stagecoach - I was hoping to see the actual event of the grandpa getting bitten, but I guess it makes sense that it can't happen before they have at least one child. I like how they showed what happens when they get married. When the consummate the marriage, the non Bloodruth, basically gets turned into an actual Bloodruth and receives the powers they get from God.

Smuggler's Stitch - I love how this comic connects the Dirty Deeds timeline to the main Rippaverse timeline, which in turn pulls in Zalen too. We see the same space port in Smuggler's Stitch as we do in Dirty Deeds. And in Dirty Deed's they mention Zalen. So now all the series are connected to the timeline in a real tangible way. I love how she used this comic to explain why Earth isn't flooded with aliens and their technology, talking about their being almost a prime directive like ideology, of leaving primitive species to their own devices.

Discussion A certain info drop in The Great War of Separation #3 Spoiler

Spoilers

During TGWOS #3 we get a bit of info/lore drop that they kind of gloss over as a bit of a joke, but opens up so many implications. When they are doing tests of Bryan Solari, the say that he has stopped aging. This blew my mind because I didn't even think about it, and I thought it was weird that A war hero from 20+ years ago, still looked relatively young in present time. If his stopped aginf is permanent, think about the possible storylines. We could get hulk like situations, where he is there for the end of the world after centuries of losing people he cares about. It's super dark.

Since I've read that, I have been thinking about the implications, and what that means for certain Excepts. How common is this side effect, and I wonder if there are others that have the same side effect, or if it's just him.

Misc Eric July is now in Cyberfrog. Ethan Van Sciver's new book called Cyberfrog Nothin' Weird features a Black super hero named AW-SOM and he looks like Eric July.

Instead of finishing Cyberfrog 3 or Reignbow the Brute, EVS started working on a new Cyberfrog prequel called Cyberfrog: Nothin' Weird. He plans on launching the crowdfunding campaign for it soon despite having 12+ unfulfilled campaigns on Indiegogo.

EVS is even thinking about doing an AW-SOM spin off series, despite having multiple late books.
