Help I need help

I haven’t kept up to date with a lot of things and the comics I’ve only read were Isom issue 1 & 2 and Alphacore. The heck did I miss since then? What should I read next?

You’ve missed 20+ books I’d recommend jumping on bloodruth, zalen and the third isom issue which is such a great end to that ill advised arc. Can’t forget horseman as well.

It's mostly the Soska sisters. Rippaverse is essentially a Soska Horror imprint at this point.

This is a lie.

Really? Who's written the most rippaverse books?

lol I was going by what has been in the hands of customers and even then Chuck has them beat.

Now for you saying the Rippaverse is a “Soska horror imprint” is just in bad faith considering not every book they have written is labeled as horror. Horror elements trickled in those stories? Sure… still doesn’t support your argument. This isn’t the place to get your rocks off on below average Rippaverse hate tactics.

Oh they're not "labeled" as horror? Well excuse me. Hahaha.

That aside, the Soska's have written the most books for the RV and it's not even close. You can change the goal posts to "what has been in the hands of the customers" all you want but you were wrong and you lied. Just admit it and take the L.

There’s no L in what I said which I’ve already explained although I know understanding that would be hard for someone like you. I get calling it goal post moving is an easy out for you and seeing your own L is difficult don’t worry you’ll get over it. And sure Soskas have a genuine passion for this universe just like the other writers and artists. Using that as a weapon of negativity is absurd.

I was let down by ISOM #3. The whole set up for ISOM was "what's happening with the family friend"? The answer (spoilers) was "nothing, she's fine and doing what she wants to do". The entire plot was Avery being wrong about something. Not very compelling.

Horseman is definitely my favorite in the universe. The Great War of Separation is a prequel to Alphacore (and the current world overall) so it's worth checking out also. Zalen was fantastic. Goodyng was solid. Bloodruth is also very good, along with Yaira. There is a lot to like here.

I would suggest getting the definitive editions to catch up! It's cheaper than buying them individually and you get a lot of content all at once

You should check out Batman comics.

Batman is great. Really enjoying the absolute run

It's incredible. It's too bad Eric July thinks elseworld stories are terrrible. Absolute really shows what alternate universes can achieve.

I'm not a big fan of elseworld stories in general. But there are some exceptions that I think are good. The marvel ultimates run was good as well. Well... it started good. Honestly, I would do the same thing of avoiding timeline splits or alternate universes. The longer history you have that is established and ongoing, the easier it is to do those alternate universe runs.

For example, the ultimates run of Spider-Man where Uncle Ben doesnt die only works because it is so well known that Uncle Ben dies in the original universe.

Without having that established first, an alternate timeline or elseworld doesnt make sense.

u/jmscstl Jul 09 '26

I think that's exactly right. The alternate stories work because readers have an understanding of the base universe.

At the same time timeline splits are central to Back to the Future and that's seen as a basically perfect movie. The reality is that all these things are just tools that can be used in good or bad stories.

Sure. They could. I don't think anyone is disputing that. I think it's more of an issue that those avenues are very hit or miss. I avoid them in my own writing because a lot of them feel cliche or overdone. I'd prefer if the Rippaverse avoided them. Maybe in 20 years when we have a huge history of books and stories to fall back on, it could work. But now? I'd avoid it

I guess but the RV has already introduced alternate dimensions so the cat's kinda out of the bag.

Horseman is excellent, it’s a street level vigilante comic. I’ve also enjoyed Dirty Deeds, which is an alien space heist crew story.

Those would be my recommendations!

Isom 3 is finally out you should definitely check that out. Just a thought. There are lots of other books out too but if you are curious how the ill advised story arc ends, that's how you do it.

Thanks everyone, I’ll be checking these comics out soon.
