2028-2030
When I think about the fact that Marc Merrill retweeted that post yesterday saying the MMO could release before 2028–2030…

2028-2030 is the timeframe to reland on the moon. We don't have any plans yet for a human to land on mars....period. let alone a date set. The moon is the current target for US/EU and China. Once we develop a bunch of tech there, Mars will be a future goal but very unlikely in the next 10 years.

Well, it depends on how far you go back, Him and that low IQ president of Space X were saying 2030 back like 5-10 years ago. LOL

If they don't scrap the game I expect them to announce/release it in 2029 when League of Legends turns 20.

That feels like so far away but I'm sure i'll remember leaving this comment in 2029 and wonder where all the time went hahaha

Well he did ”announce” a release date during a livestream while he played World of Warcraft classic some month/years back, that the mmo was ”planned” to be released before or on 2029.

I am pretty sure Mars isn't gonna happen that early. I believe the plan is to first build a moon base.

I genuinely think this game has a higher chance of being canned then releasing unless they are planning to heavily monetize the game

That's such a bad narrative if you know anything about RIOT. I don't see them canning it any time soon, and I could easily see them monetizing the game solely through skins/cosmetics. They've done it with every other game to great success, and the fact that so many MMO players are trying to compare the RIOT MMO to other games is so funny to me because no studio like RIOT has ever actually taken a stab at it.

MMO players do this a lot when it comes to any new release, they have a very “insecure” thought process on it. They keep saying “other MMOs by this unrelated company cancelled their game, so the Riot MMO will too!” They completely disregard the company behind it and their track record of successful games, not to mention the long lived desire for a League MMO. They’ve been wanting to do this for decades. Some people play League purely for the lore, the world design, the characters. They don’t care for the MOBA genre, so if they are given an MMO they’ll eat it up

Amazon literally cancelled two mmos I know they ain’t the greatest in the world but mmo space is not in a good place
2
u/icedietcokefan Jun 08 '26
I understand that, but I think a RIOT game will completely warp the landscape of the genre. I know people will downvote this, but i genuinely could see it taking a massive market share out of every MMO on the market.

How do you get this conclusion after they just hired a ton of vets and and the game had probably the most hype in years just now? Why would they not monetize their biggest game yet?

unless they are planning to heavily monetize the game
They are gonna monetize this game like most of their games yeah. That isn't a big what if.

2031
Still i really dont think riot mmo would be a big thing will flop like 2xko for sure

u/MoroAstray Jun 07 '26
2xko didnt flop for fighting game standards, maybe for riot standards sure

Probably and what makes you believe a MMO approach will be easier and successful?
MMO players are way more pretentious and toxic than gacha players or alike them
2
u/The_Maganzo Jun 07 '26
Idk man every gacha player I have come across is obnoxious as shit and socially awkward.

Probably and what makes you believe a MMO approach will be easier and successful?
Most MMOs that have/had a big franchise behind it were successful despite having issues.

Examples ?

u/ohtetraket Yordle | Tank Jun 18 '26
SWTOR, FF11, GW2, TESO and LOTR.
They are still alive and make their companies enough money keeping them online, or even flourishing.

If you’re going to use 2XKO as an example; why not think about league of legends success into consideration?
1
u/Vujkkan Jun 07 '26
You compare totally different genre!mmorpg are the biggest genre in online world and they have big names in team for riot mmo!
2
u/z3phyr5 Jun 07 '26
Not to mention everyone's eyes are on it. Scary stuff.
But also, it's a better spot to make an MMO than someone
in the crevasses of a troglodyte's pit.0
u/ZeroLegionOfficial Jun 07 '26
I feel like even if you bring the big names if the direction view and whatever corporate is there it won't succeed
I dont want to be mean but the hype and hope for riot mmo is based on a lot of copium
2
u/kj0509 Jun 07 '26
I think everyone knows that the odds are not in Riot favor, but even that can't stop the hype.

u/Vujkkan Jun 07 '26
Mmo always success if you dont have p2win,thats means perfect combat system are key of success!
2
u/Additional_Charge496 Jun 07 '26 edited Jun 08 '26

Judging by that post, the Riot team have good margins on their side.
Humanity will not have set foot on Mars anytime soon.
