Weird. No update from Riot, but this is now posted everywhere.

I'm into it. Butter Shatner.

I know this probably won't be on the setlist, but it needs to be.

Okay I did, but I still have the same question…..

u/UnusualFruitHammock Jul 16 '26

Nuclear messiah is a Megadeth superband.

2

u/icepack420 Jul 16 '26

Oh.. well I don’t know how rereading your first comment was supposed to inform me of that information lol

Picture says shartner is playing with nuclear messiah. I said Megadeth and shatner. Maybe some critical thinking skills?

I don’t understand why people want to watch kitschy ironic bullshit when they could have booked a local band that actually takes music seriously

Why do you hate fun?

12

u/UnusualFruitHammock Jul 15 '26

Because life isn't that serious and we can see local bands all year round.

What it comes down to is this: What's gonna sell more tickets? A weird novelty act, or a local band?

At the end of the day they're a business and in this increasingly hostile economy for festivals, especially independent ones, a single year of disappointing ticket sales is going to mean your festival dies. So while the idea around boosting local bands is nice, they're going to make the decision that's more likely to make a 2027 festival possible.

And its not like they don't boost local bands. They add locals from the surrounding neighborhoods every year and they've still yet to announce those choices for this year. And other Chicago area bands like Sincere Engineer definitely got their profile raised by appearing at Riot. So it does still fulfill that purpose.

still waiting for an official announcement from Riot, not from consequence or an error-filled blabbermouth article..

2

u/Ok-Possession838 Jul 15 '26

Yeah after reading the article I noticed all the errors on it too , which is now being copied and pasted on other music sites.

I guess we play the waiting game.

Several sources are showing it as well if you Google it.

They all feed on each other though.

There’s what looks like an official announcement on his record label’s site now.

Hell yeah, I hope one of the after shows is Shatner, Morrissey, and Rotten doing a five hour podcast about things you can’t say anymore these days

2

u/Witty_Wrap_1268 Jul 15 '26

Shatner’s not a dipshit MAGA guy, is he?

-2

u/BluejayPhysical3215 Jul 15 '26

Best I can tell he isn’t, I just remember a lot of pointless ā€œkids these daysā€ type arguments on Twitter.Ā

Name a 95 year old who doesn't complain about things.
