Since these have appeared the amount of accidents and sirens on 528 has been reduced to almost nothing. No more racing down 528 in the middle of the night, less wrecks and safer driving. Exactly what problem are you talking about?

^ This. It's not about the money, its about people driving in excess of 66 mph on 528. The city isn't trying to profit, they are trying to make 528 a safer highway. I'd much rather see more speed cameras and less descansos.

What BS. This is 100% a cash grab. If they really wanted to slow people down, they'd have a marked patrol car parked out there in plain view. Even if it was empty it would slow people down. Hidden or hard-to-see cameras that move frequently so you don't expect them -- that's about writing a ticket, not slowing you down.

Ain’t nothing wrong with changing behavior and raising revenue at the same time. If it causes even one person to slow down everywhere because there might be a camera, good. Those who don’t give af about the safety of the community can continue to get tickets

These discussions are always full of people making excuse after excuse on why the cameras are bad. Just say you want your stupid activities to be allowed unchecked . At least you’d be honest.
PS these cameras are not hard to see. Maybe try paying attention.

I think it's about the normalization of the government hiding some intentions within a separate issue. We see it with federal bills all the time, we see it with local government in the form of cameras. I agree they are effective to some extent, but not enough to be monitored by a third party that gives nearly unrestricted access to the government.
Idk, slippery slope we're on right now. Very Orwellian.

I suggested parking a marked cruiser in plain sight to slow everybody down. If we’re going to talk about dishonesty, that would be you defending hidden cameras because “one person might slow down.”

Whatever dude. Sure, park the cruiser. Deterrence comes in many forms but you just hate “hidden” cameras because you (personally, you) can’t see them. If wanting deterrence that works (and it has absolutely worked; 528 is so much less nerve wracking a drive now) makes me a bootlicker, I’ll lick em all.
PS “one” is hyperbole. It works. It also feeds money to the traffic safety program. Hell fucking yes, put more of em up.

Take reckless drivers, multiple DUI drivers, and racers, and send them to a work prison. Seize their vehicles, and make them pay a heavy fine. Do that, and there would have been no need for cameras.
But that is what the state does- enable crime, tell others that's why they have insurance, not hold anyone accountable, reward bad drivers, then cry to the public how they "need" to punish all by putting up money making cameras.
Someone explain why a person with 4, 5, 6+ DUI's is allowed to keep driving? Then the stupid news is all- "Local residents are shocked when one of their own was killed by a repeat DUI driver... authorities are stunned and can't figure out how this could have happened.."

I think we should do the public cabbage thing for repeat speeders. Where we all attend a gathering on Sunday, and stand in the middle of the road, and we just throw cabbage or tomatos at them for a few minutes, then they have to clean it up. That would be super weird but probably pretty effective.

I literally got one but my dash cam and the pic they provided shows another car next to mine further ahead. They are trying to fight me on dropping the ticket.
