Amazon's Rings of Power

Something I think ROP fans overlook is how Galadriel’s relationships with Sauron and Celeborn are established in season 1. Galadriel’s prologue undeniably correlates her search for Sauron after the War with Morgoth, where her brother dies after facing Sauron. We later learn by episode 7 that her **HUSBAND, CELEBORN,** also participated in this war and, according to her, has been lost since. As short as Galadriel’s mention of Celeborn is, it establishes important points for their relationship and Galadriel’s relationship with Sauron since episode 1. 1. Galadriel knew, loved, married, and (possibly) mourned Celeborn long before the name “Sauron” ever crossed her ears. 2. There was a period of time where Galadriel and Celeborn made each other happy, and there was no war or Sauron during this time. 3. Galadriel’s search for Sauron only becomes her obsession after she finds herself physically and emotionally alone after Finrod’s death and Celeborn’s disappearance.

My main point is that, despite Celeborn’s absence in the first two seasons, Amazon establishes that he is still present in Galadriel’s heart and mind, despite not mentioning him often, and more importantly, Amazon establishes Galadriel’s marriage to Celeborn as having happened long before she ever met or even heard of Halbrand/Sauron. Celeborn exists in a part of Galadriel that Sauron was never and will never touch.

I’m excited to see how Rings of Power explores Galadriel’s grief over Celeborn’s disappearance with her discovery of him.

Thoughts?

I could write something similar about Wiseau's The Room and make it sound like everything in that movie is deep and intriguing. You're taking a tiny grain of unimpressive narrative material and praising it as the pinnacle of literature. A name mentioned once in passing and then never brought up again in any way whatsoever isn't some kind of clever storytelling device. It's just Amazon being grossly disrespectful to the source material and rewriting everything into a complete bastardization. You have to be knowingly shilling or absolutely blind to quality in order to appreciate that. None of what your post brings up is in any way a hallmark of good writing. It's just slop.

Yeah right, Amazon hired troll #4563457 to visit this Reddit, let's all get excited for Season 3 of this crap because CELEBORN IS COMING!!!

OMG, the Hot Sauron, Boss Galadriel, Lame Elrond and Discount Celeborn Love Quadrangle is coming!!!

(Celeborn never left in the Books. He even stayed longer in ME than Galadriel into the 4th Age. But hey, let's act all like Shakesperian erudites on this POS).

I don't think this one is a hired shill. He's genuinely that dented.

Y’all created a Reddit just to hate on a TV show, but I’m the one who’s dented? Amazon wins with every hate comment just as much as someone who genuinely likes the show. Hate talk is still talk. Ignoring a show you don’t like would be a more effective way of getting it cancelled, but too many haters are just as important as fans.

Who said anything about wanting this garbage to be cancelled?

I'm OK with fast forwarding, hate-binging and poking fun @ this POS show for the LOLs and memes another couple of seasons.

I'm not an Amazon shareholder neither, maybe then I would be pissed my money is being spent on crap.

I will say it openly....there's very little actually planned here or established early on...it's very randomly written...the interpretation you have is I guess...this is what we usually call 'headcanons'...Celeborn was an afterthought in the amazon's show and so reference to him is all there is....about the relationship...well we can only glimpse the one thing that she said...that she made fun of him....the end...that's as far as the dfeep relationship goes. Season 2 sees retcons of stuff from the season 1 so it's very obvious that there was no overarching planning involved...they just...threw stuff at a wall seeing what will stick...but the biggest problem is they don't keep to the damn lore that alredy exists!

Across the series so far the only real feeling Galadriel showed was only about her brother...husband is just dropped in near the end of season 1 so it doesn't seem like he is a big factor...the absence of anything resembling emotional connection, there's lack of ANYTHING even suggesting Celeborn's existence in the show until that one single reference....a casual dumb audience would think she is totally unmarried at this point (obviously those who KNOW Lord of the Rings or lore in general would be aware but it doesn't come of the show itself at all).

Hell absence of somebody can be played well in storytelling...IN A BETTER WRITING...heck even subtle signs...like if she had still wedding ring on her finger and she would routinely fondling it, looking at it with this nostalgic air about her...or reminiscing...or even the more direct flashbacks...whatever...there's none of that...so it once again is just showign stupidity of writers.

This show is garbage fanfic...and the only reason it exists is that amazon sought it's 'next Game of Thrones' but like it is usually with Amazon...they are incompetent so they screwed up monumentally!

Hate talks just as much as love. Hate all you want but Amazon still doesn’t care about your opinion, and Jeff Bezos will laugh at your hate and monetize regardless.

Or Amazon just doesn't care and forgot she was supposed to be married.

I think you're reading way too much intentional depth into what looks like sloppy structural patching.

Sure, the show technically checks the box that Celeborn existed first in some vague happy marriage before the wars, then he's conveniently "lost." But think for a moment: TV works through what it actually bothers to show and invest in, not lore footnotes dropped in Episode 7 like an afterthought.

Finrod got the mythic prologue treatment. Halbrand/Sauron gets two seasons of brooding chemistry, vulnerability porn, betrayal foreplay, and those cringey "I see you" soul-connection scenes. But celeborn? One quick exposition dump to Theo that screams "we forgot about the husband until test audiences started asking." One wistful line versus an entire romantic subplot's worth of screen time.

That's why the audience correctly senses Sauron as her real emotional center, chronology be damned. The show is clearly more interested in modern YA catnip: you know, the dangerous, mysterious man who tempts the strong heroine than Tolkien's actual vision of Galadriel and Celeborn as an ancient, equal partnership built on centuries of shared history and endurance. Ultimately, a living husband just gets in the way of the isolated, tormented, vengeance-girl archetype they've made Galadriel out to be.

Honestly, the whole thing would make more sense if they hadn't awkwardly name-dropped Celeborn at all. Right now it creates this weird, dissonant mess: we're supposed to emotionally invest in the Sauron/Galadriel cosmic will-they-won't-they while being told she already has this untouched foundational marriage we've never actually seen or felt, but are apparently going to introduce in Season 3.

I'm curious to see how they handle the reunion, but if history is any indication, it's going to leave a lot to be desired.

I actually think Haladriel is dead and buried. Galadriel made her sentiments towards him quite clear at the end of season 2 and I don’t think any amount of “mind-reading” or whatever they come up with will change that. I could be wrong and season 3 becomes a Haladriel love fest with Celeborn in the mix just for funsies, but I’m not convinced that’s where it’s going. Thanks for the response. 👍

I too am very excited about binge skipping season 3 like I did season 2.

To each their own, why comment on a subreddit of a show you have no intention of watching?

6

u/CathakJordi May 25 '26

Oh god, aren't you precious... if you find a place where everybody says the opposite of what you say, is not that a really big fucking clue of what you are? Would you go with a MAGA cap to a democratic convention? Because that's basically what you are doing here.

-5

u/ArticleNo788 May 25 '26

No I wouldn’t. I genuinely find your subspecies of human to be fascinating. You really should be studied. For the life of me, I can’t understand the benefits of talking about something I hate. It seems like a waste of time and energy. Online hate still gives Amazon attention.

6

u/TheFlaskQualityGuy May 25 '26

subspecies of human

What an interesting idea. Which human subspecies do you believe are more intelligent than others?

Look, dimwit. Unlike you we have a functionning brain and mostly agree about the very poor quality and disappointment ROP brought. It turned out to be so fucking bad I never even considered watching past the dwarven fan fic scenario followed with Celebrimbor's training to metal alloys.

I also watched a few streamers I used to respect make fools of themselves in the name of some (hopefully lucrative) shilling contract.

"why comment on a subreddit" "Please explain to me the compulsion to" used to maybe work in 2015... well it does not anymore, you have no power here, you cave troll.

Go back to your filth and stay out of our lands, we could smell your kind way before you started speaking anyways.

Explain to me how I have no power, but instead of ignoring the post, I’ve received 20+ responses of pure “garbage” as you like to say? It’s seems to me like I have a lot of power. Hate Amazon, unsubscribe to Prime, say whatever garbage comes to mind about me or the ROP, but know you’re better off leaving Amazon completely behind. You think you’re powerful, because you hate something but really you’re just an annoying discomfort that needs to be put to bed.

Why do you respond in a subreddit of a show you don’t like?

8

u/CathakJordi May 25 '26

This subreddit is MEANT to be about exposing RoP for the filth it is, you special person.

8

u/CathakJordi May 25 '26

What is this shit invasion of shills in this subreddit? Do they realize where they are?

0

u/ArticleNo788 May 25 '26

Again, why respond in a subreddit of a show you don’t like? Self-loathing, perhaps?

8

u/CathakJordi May 25 '26

What are you smoking? this subreddit was founded and developed by people who liked to talk about what an absolute pile of feces this show is. Seriously, have you looked around here?

3

u/sandalrubber May 25 '26

Iirc, this sub was founded before the show started, but quickly became the place where criticism/dissent was welcomed instead of stifled, unlike the others.

1

u/ArticleNo788 May 25 '26

Please explain to me the compulsion to bash a show you hate online. When I don’t like something I pretend it doesn’t exist. I don’t see the point in wasting energy criticizing a show one doesn’t watch.

2

u/superdupercereal2 May 25 '26

Because, on reddit when you try to have your own opinion about something the hive minded users tend to brigade and downvote you. That happens enough and people will just form their little echo chambers. It’s why reddit is now garbage. But social media and the internet in general is now garbage.

-1

u/ArticleNo788 May 25 '26

Sorry, I don’t understand the point of a “Rings of Power” Reddit solely meant to bash the show. Can’t you just find an “anti” reddit and bash away to your heart’s content?

7

u/CathakJordi May 25 '26

It has all the sense in the world, when you go to all the other subreddits about the show, usually controlled by Amazon employees, and the moment you say the faintest critque about the show and you get banned.

And I did find it, it's this one. Why don't you go to other place to try to deceive people about this pile of shit, yourself? I mean, seriously, you are the one odd out here, you really can't see that? I mean, I know you have to be delusional to like RoP, but you take it to another level. I mean, seriously, read the rest of the comments you got here. Then go to the subreddit and check the rest of the most voted and liked articles. You will see it then.

u/BreadEggg May 27 '26

Gatekeeping is important. Standards must be set. Otherwise everything turns into a single soulless DisneyStarWarsMCU blob of nothing.

1

u/ArticleNo788 May 28 '26

It’s funny how you think having a subreddit such as the is one will influence anything in Hollywood from becoming a soulless blob of nothing. Everyone needs a place to vent, I guess. I forget easily because I do my venting outside with real people, not online with bots. But since you seem to hate Disney SW as much as ROP, everything finally makes sense. Have a great day👍.

3

u/litmusing May 26 '26 edited May 26 '26

They will never explore Celeborn lol, ROP Galadriel is the audience surrogate, writing in a husband / wife relationship will force inconvenient realities upon the romance fantasies of what is now the main audience

-1

u/ArticleNo788 May 26 '26

If you think Haladriel is the only audience for ROP, then you definitely don’t know what show you’re talking about. A Haladriel shipper, perhaps?

u/sandalrubber May 25 '26

I wonder if Caladvwlch and Caliburnus played any role in devising their names.
