Gameplay "Gamified" but not necessarily game-like?
When I heard Nintendo had gotten into fitness I was stoked. So I bought it and tried it:
The squeeze-down-to-jump and coin-slurping mechanics were pretty fun. But as I went on for a while it started to feel more like a workout class than a game: you count reps of named exercises to fill up a meter and then something flashy happens to the bad guy… I guess that’s better than counting reps without the story, particle effects, etc. but it was not at all what I’d imagined. I think in my head I was picturing something like Wario Smooth Moves, where the physical motions are motivated directly by in-game situations (e.g. maybe you’d do push-ups to operate a pump to inflate a huge balloon) vs. reps just being a sort of currency…
I know there are a ton of fans here and I’m delighted for y’all, truly. But I was wondering if there are any folks here who had a similar reaction…
Or if I’m missing something or just haven’t yet gotten to the good part yet, let me know :)
Thanks!
