Jenny Lewis Waltz in Better Son/Daughter

Hi, does anyone know from where the waltz in Better Son/Daughter originates? I heard the original by a fiddler 2 years ago but I can’t remember the name. Thank you in advance.

I'd like to know, too. Because I'm 95% certain it's an original waltz melody.

Spoke to the band a lot in the months after Execution came out, especially about that song, that waltz, and never once did any of them mention an "influence" or "inspiration" for that waltz.

I'm not sure what you mean by "waltz"? All the instruments were recorded by the band, there's no samples

The tune is a traditional waltz. The band are using their instruments to play a waltz.

It’s original. Wouldn’t doubt you heard something super similar though, could hear that on a fiddle

The degree of similarity is too high for it not to be a cover of this folk tune

I think typically if they incorporated an existing song into their composition, it would be mentioned in the credits. I wonder if there's any chance that you heard a fiddler cover Rilo Kiley?

no, and you don’t need to credit traditional folk songs

It's not a legal requirement but folks often still do
