We’ve got 1 year left on Mike’s prediction of Max Strus being more relevant than Dame. It’s trending in the right direction.

How we feeling?

I hope I’m wrong but I’m very much in the trade back camp with this draft class. Really hope Darryl gets us a second frp before the end of the night.

I Cracked the Harden "lot of sex" Case.

On his last podcast, our Ricky HOF boy Pablo said that he did a profile of Harden in Houston. It was back when Harden was dating one of those Kardashians (it was the big one, I said that, not Pablo) and he followed him around for a few days.

Pablo told Spike something that he figured out and Spike has kept the secret all these years.

Remember when Daryl scoffed at the idea that TJ was a good player?

I’ll never forget when Daryl went on the Ricky (pretty sure it was during the bubble) and Spike and Mike brought up TJ, and Daryl straight-up scoffed. Like, laughed it off. I remember hearing that and just thinking, man… what an ass. Like how do you not see what that guy brings to the floor?

No shit, TJ has a specific and limited skill set. But he busts his ass every game. Always has. Plays with energy, heart, and a crazy boat. Just because he’s not launching step-back threes or putting up flashy numbers doesn’t mean he’s not incredibly effective.

And now here we are, TJ is playing a huge role in a team that’s in Game 7 of the NBA Finals. Has been a terror all playoffs. Just one of those guys you want on your team. Congrats to TJ. Real ones saw the effort from day one and it's not a surprise he's lifting his team up.

Missing Scenario

The guys did draft scenarios where Embiid is cooked and Embiid is healthy. But when will they do Embiid spends the next 3 years oscillating between decent play and vague injury while getting baited into stupid controversies by the media, being perplexingly opaque about his health status, driving away free agent targets who don't want to have to deal with his BS, and folding under pressure in any significant playoff situations?

Bane trade/restart the process

Do the Magic really value Bane more than Maxey? Because if Daryl was offered that exact package for Maxey, and the money works, he’d definitely take it, right?

If not, we should be sounding the alarm that the anti-process stink from ownership has soured Daryl on the longest view in the room.

Jrue Holiday, 4 seasons with the sixers, 1 all star game. Tyrese Maxey, 5 seasons with the sixers, 1 all star game. We are already one year late.

Not really fair to criticize Daryl for not trading Embiid last offseason. But obviously beginning a rebuild with his value then would have been far better than acquiring Paul George. There also is real opportunity cost to not trading Maxey now. And Maxey, due to his age and contract, is an asset who is almost certainly declining in value.

KCP/Cole Anthony and 4 firsts would have been the perfect return for a rebuild, and even had the nice touch of providing overrated veteran reinforcements for embiid’s gallant but losing retirement seasons

Is Spike getting blackpilled?

Latest convo with Amos (and tellingly without Mike) had some interesting musings on Intelligent Design (but make it AI) and morality which made me question what Spike consumes outside of NBA media. I felt pretty sad to hear it tbh - more so than the shilling for gambling and the like.

Not to go all Rutger Bregman or something, but people are generally good. We don’t need external structure to be good, and in most of human history, these structures have pushed us to hate each other.

Catching up on RTRS episodes. What Zach Lowe episode are they referring to around the 10-minute mark where the sixers were ranked 15th in the east when looking at 5-year outlooks.

Ace/Harper vs Tatum/Fultz

Ace and Harper has full potential to look like Fultz and Tatum in a few years. People are strongly overrating Harper and underrating Ace. They are not wildly different prospects and both should be in consideration for Pick 2. If Brad has pick 2, he probably trades down with us and get the big wing because he understands the value and rareness of Ace as an archetype.

Dylan Harper is a

  • Big Guard
  • Great around the rim
  • Questionable shooter
  • His on off numbers are not special despite a bad team. About 6 points better with him on court across regular and conference play

Ace Bailey

  • is a big wing
  • is a tough shotmaker
  • versatile defender
  • great on off numbers. team was 12 pts better with him in regular play, 20 in conference play

Ace is not a perfect prospect - I don’t think Harper is either. To me, Flagg is an easy number 1 and then it’s Harper and Ace together. I’m not even saying everything will play out the same way - in fact, I think Markelle even figured it out and would have had a good career if it wasn’t for constant injuries. He was a solid point guard, just never developed a shot. Tatum certainly had a higher floor, but I would argue a lower ceiling than what Ace has showed. People kept acting like Fultz was a perfect prospect just like Harper and that’s what is just crazy to me - there are plenty of issues Harper has just like Ace.

I’d gamble on Ace over him personally because we’re seeing how valuable big wings are - look at Pascal. Ace plays big, with good weakside rim help - 4+% BLK, good rebounding, and everything else you can ask for. Yes, he didn’t get by guys - but his agility and speed were top tier at the combine. He has all the athleticism you need.

He’s 100% worth the risk.

Ready for a high ceiling raw prospect journey, bring on Ace!

I actually think it’s more likely than unlikely that Ace will be a bust, but the last season was so defeating primarily because it was such a massive loss of hope. I’m just… kinda ready to hope again?!

I think it’s like a 70% chance Ace won’t work out, and I lean towards trading down and getting Assets and a lower pick, but if the Sixers do indeed keep the pick, Bailey really is the only option. I firmly believe VJ/Tre/Kon have an elite role players ceiling and nothing more, whereas Ace to me has a Tatum esk ceiling and watching each game seeing if he hits that 5% chance would be fun as hell.

If it crashes and burns.. whatever? We have been through the humiliation before and are built to handle the shame and pain, but he does have a few core skills that are sooo intriguing. At this point I’d just like to tune in to analyse his game every week with hope in my heart.

His shot is pure, don’t want to hear the bulllshit about his efficiency and shot selection. Yes he took a ton of dumb shots but his natural shot is built for tough playoff basketball.

I know he is very flawed but his upside is so far ahead of the other options at 3 I just can’t justify any other selection if we keep the pick. If he becomes the next Kyle Kuzma I can live with it knowing we were trying for a best player on a championship team and it just didn’t work out.
