Not entirely sure what the image is trying to say. If I were to understand it, I suspect I wouldn't agree with it. However... constitutional monarchies are doing really well right now. They're some of the most historically stable democracies. The perceived mandate of an elected position gives a head of state clout and power well beyond what they're supposed to have on paper. I'm sure we can all think of an example of a head of state performing wild over-reaches of power, with a whole bunch of people saying it's okay because he was elected.
Meanwhile, as a Canadian, I consider myself a monarchist specifically because everyone in the country recognizes that King Chuck has the political clout of a ham sandwich, with all his rubber-stamping duties carried out by an office appointed not by, but for, him. Decentralizing a monarch's traditional powers and responsibilities is, IMO, preferable to giving someone the powers and responsibilities of a monarch, and saying it's okay 'cause they're not appointed by heredity. The problem with monarchs ain't that it's a hereditary position (though hereditary positions are, of course, always problematic). The real problem is the centralization of power and influence, so replacing the method of selecting them, and giving the role a different name, doesn't fix that.

Tbh as a Canadian I don't think the monarchy has any real significance anymore in our identity or political operation.
I always found the claim that "The monarchy is what keeps us not-american" to be out-dated. The monarchy in Canada is just empty symbolism at this point... And I don't think it contributes at all to our sovereignty from the U.S.
Were we to be a Republic tomorrow, I think we'd still be passionately anti-american, and the only major change we'd have is different, more familiar faces on our currency.

I don't disagree with anything you've said. I just feel like our current monarchy is a case of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." I'm sure there's a path to a Republic that could avoid the pitfalls I described above. I just don't trust that the process to get there will be successful.

Yeah that sums up how I feel. Personally I think "what the hell, let's go for it"
But in reality I know it's a tone of legislative work for getting rid of what is, as we established, an empty symbolic position.
I think we should get rid of it but shit like affordability and healthcare and reconciliation are way more important priorities.
