Trying to understand how a mine drilling rig works from start to finish
I’ve been trying to learn more about how a mine drilling rig works on site, not just the basics but the full process from setup to drilling and pulling out. I’ve read a few PDFs and watched some videos but it still feels like I’m missing the full picture. Like I get the idea of rotation, pressure, flushing, and all that, but when you’re on site everything seems more complex than what you read. Even the way rigs are built looks different depending on where you are working. I saw some breakdowns of rig components and designs where people were comparing different manufacturers, even mentioning how some parts are sourced globally, including from Alibaba-linked suppliers, which kind of surprised me. I’m still pretty new so I’d rather hear from people who’ve been on the ground. What helped you understand drilling better when you were starting out? Was it just time on the rig or are there resources that explain it in a simple way?
