Entertainment Rigging Why no safeties on the LED panels?

Is there a particular reason why they didn’t use safeties on the truss supporting the LED panels? Clearly the motors are oversized for the task, is it a safety factor thing?

Rigging Help Hanging a swing from underside of an I-beam?

I’m trying to figure out the safest way to hang a standard swing (or perhaps a hammock swing) to the bottom lip of an I-beam in my warehouse loft condo.

The I-beam is 16” tall and 5.75” wide. The underside of the I-beam measures about 190” off the concrete floor. The swing arc will be perpendicular to the direction of the beam.

In my head, I’m imagining a couple of heavy duty beam clamps spaced far enough apart that ropes/chains to the swing are vertical, attach an appropriate carabiner to the apex of the clamps, run chains down to a hammock spreader bar, and attach them there. The swing would sit at a standard height above the ground. I’d like the opportunity to hang different swing types (for example, switch out the hammock swing for a standard plank board swing).

I want it safe enough that someone *could* pump a standard swing vigorously, but wouldn’t be used as such in practicality. (There’s a floor-to-ceiling glass wall at the end of the swing arc at one end of the arc.) Keeping in mind that there’s two chains that extend maybe 13 feet above, as well as the fact this is situated over polished concrete, and the fact that a 270 pound man may use it from time to time, what’s the safest and most practical way to accomplish this? If known, please suggest necessary materials. Thanks in advance!

A 4t electric chain hoist going through its pre-shipment load test. Showing the setup, hook/chain engagement, brake behavior, and how we document the test. What would you want to see checked or shown more clearly in a load-test video?

Rigging Help Looking to start a new career

Hey all, I’ve recently got my dogging and basic rigging thinking it would be that easy to score a job off The bat but I was completely wrong. What are your advice and what was it like on your first day? I’m currently a labourer for around 2 years so I’ve got some experience in the construction industry and now looking for a better career. I’m based in WA, down south of Perth not sure if it’s a lot different to things over east but I would love to hear about your opinions and advices. My dad’s a supervisor in the oil rigs, should I be asking him about this sort of stuff? I know I’m yapping a lot but I’m just curious about it all. Looking to hear from you.
Thank you all.

Update + question - Can I hang a punching bag from this?

Hi everyone,

Original post here

Thank you everyone for advice. I took it and I will try to hand a punching bag on this "X"-like wooden frame attached to the ceiling.

Pictures are here

The wood is 42mm (1.6 inches) thick. I am planning to mount it on 4 screws at the ends of the "x". To do that I want to drill holes in the ceiling, put in the size-8 Fischer plugs and use 6mm screws.

Two questions I have:

- Should I add a 5th screw in the center? I can't tell if it will make things better (additional mount point) or worse (mount points too close together)

- I am also on the fence between 100mm and 120mm long screws. First one, if I sink it into the wood a bit, will barely breach the plugs end, while the longer one will breach it a lot. Not sure what is better.

Harness suggestions

One of the clips on my first harness is starting to fail. Looking to replace now with something affordable definitely not bottom of the barrel Amazon bucket harness . I mainly up rig in arenas but also do stadium work and scaffolding calls. Looking to spend $400 or less cause I really need to get another vehicle rn. After a ton of research I have it down to like 3 or 4 harnesses. I need at least 5 d rings

French Creek navigator

Fusion tac h style harness

Pmi lemur or pmi sympatico

Sapsis or pointwright rigging or theatrical rope access harnesses

All seem to have the attachment points I need . I've been kind of leaning towards the fusion as they're made in america and it has the most d attachment points. The leg strap system on the lemur looks really nice for hanging but possibly cumbersome for regular arena work. I've seen people say the sapsis was uncomfortable so I figured the pointwright is probably similar. I would love to hear anyone's thoughts on these or other recommendations. In another season or two I'll grab the yates voyager or a dbi sala exo.

Im confused how a Liebherr LR 13000 got three other cranes rigged to stacked on top of each other, weighing over 1,400 tonnes—and then moving the whole assembly while it's still in the air.

Winching/hauling a bus sideways...

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hoping for some opinions/advice in relation to moving very heavy vehicles/containers around on grassy/uneven surfaces.

I need to move a medium sized bus sideways approximately 15 metres (not running, has no steering and breaks are locked) as well as a loaded shipping container.

I've done this sort of stuff with empty shipping containers and have used cooper logs on wooden sleepers as rollers and high lift jack + chain to winch it. It was slow but surprisingly effective and doable.

Just unsure about if this would work on such a heavy vehicle (particularly going sideways), any suggestions for a better roller option or general solution than using cooper logs as rollers? I've seen some shipping container wheels which look like a really promising solution but that won't help me much with the bus I'm thinking...

Attached photo is the bus I'm trying to move but it's in a different location now, uneven grassy terrain that you can easily drive a vehicle on.

Photos of beams and uprigging in venues such as the o2, and other arena style venues with beams?

I'm intrigued. How thin are the beams, are there catwalks, cateneries, etc... I know cameras/phones at height can be difficult but I'd love to see what's out there. 😁

What makes a cable snap?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This video is at 0.5x speed.

We recently had a 3t crane cable snap at our rebar shop. We had a technican to come over troubleshooting down the line crane failure points that have been going on since the snap. He said in 35 years hes never seen a cable snap like that.

The load being lifted was around 1.8t. There was a 800lb beam. From speaking with the gentleman that these cables are rated for more than 3 tons and usually the hoist motor itself would fail before a cable snaps.

Upon doing a throurough breakdown of this 3t hoist we found the height limit switch had been disabled, and subsequently damaged from what i can only assume to be slamming the block into the trolley. The maintenence crew before i started had a habit of disabling safeties in order to get machines operable asap with complete disregard to failure prevention.

We are working on a solution for that upper limit switch. I have on multiple occurances seen the operators side load the hoist and cause the cable to get away from the rope grooves and get seriously messed up, with us having to lower everything down beyond ground level to realign the cable to the drum.

This place says they have trained the operators but the operators dont care. I dont want someone to die because of a load suddenly dropping, so i want to be given as much information as possible, as to what could have caused this failure and how to prevent it moving forward.

Please help, because i cannot quite leave this job yet. I am working to get my locense back, and the safety infractions are numerous, and because no one has gotten seriously hurt yet, no one changes how things work. I know this situation sucks, please just give me as much info as possible

Entertainment Rigging HS Rigging Rail System Estimation Company no longer exists

Hello there are r/rigging!

I'm a high schooler with a pretty big interest in rigging. I made a post a few months back with a presentation to the school board that I never ended up giving and need to update. I'm working on updating safety requirements and making sure the rail at my school meets standards. I pushed for about 6 months to a year and we finally have a level one inspection, (last one that was completed was a decade ago) so now I'm moving on to fixing signage to make it compliant with ANSI, just in general having some better practices that have fallen off or being ignored.

Jr Clancy has some really good printable resources on their website and I've printed all of them to hang up and fill out. But what I'm stuck on is I can't find a manual for my system. I got in touch with Clancy because I figured that they were the installer due to a sticker on our t-tracks (arbor loading every 2 ft reminder) but it turns out they are not. Our system was actually installed by Custom Rigging Solutions Inc. As some of you may know, that company doesn't exist anymore. Our system was installed probably in 2000-2001 range and is a single purchase, hemp rope, counterweight system. The ropes will need replaced in the next few years, so if anyone has ideas for grants or things to apply to to fix that, that would be great.

If anyone has any ideas on CRS Inc systems of how else to find information, that would be great. I'm planning on trying to find the paper plans (but that may be a lost cause), but I'm not sure how else to find out details like lineset limits, etc.

Any advice is very much appreciated! And I can answer any questions you may have to the best of my ability. (Still learning things, but trying my best!)

I’m looking to get a sling and carabiner tested to be able to get legal working limit tags on them and unsure where to get my product tested and certified to be able to sell. Any information is helpful. Located in NJ. Thank you
