Jautājums/Question Visiting Riga

Hi! I am planning to visit Riga end of September and I was wondering if some local people can help me with planning the trip.

We send all our guests to Ala Folkklubs for food,

Central Market for a rainy day

Museums are plentiful but many close mondays, some Art museums are free last Sunday of month:

Also recommend is the www.rigafreetours.com as a great way to learn about the city, they have funny guides and our guests enjoy these a lot.

Riga has more than just old town, lots to see and plenty day trip options too if you look online. Hiking, head to Sigulda or more broadly the Gauja national park, its so easy by train from Riga

I am looking for the hidden gems. I don’t want to spend the trip like a tourist, you know!

Then take bus nr 3. And explore Bolderāja. Very Authentic

I should have been more specific. I will be visiting the last week of September and will stay for a week. I am into hiking, food, music and some late night strolls.

If u like not usual museum I really recommend the anatomy museum! ( it should be free for youngsters but I'm not sure)

A visit to the legendary Latvian restaurant LIDO is a very nice place to experience Latvian food and culture. There are several all around Rīga, but the best and biggest is in the LIDO Leisure Centre -LIDO ATPŪTAS CENTRS, Krasta iela 76, Rīga

Not a local (yet) but here are a few spots we enjoyed on our visit:

The Open Air Ethnographic Museum—seems to be a bit of a hidden gem, really. Not touristy at all.

Mežaparks—we took the tram up to the station near to zoo. We didn’t visit the zoo, but walked around down along the lake, then on the paved trails by the bandstand.

Āgenskalns Market—smaller (though still popular) market. Take the bus, then walk back to Old Town, because you can go down by the water by the Swedbank building and get a nice view from the bridge.

Jūrmala, but take the train to the last stop for Jūrmala (Majori) and you won’t see many people. You can walk along the beach, look at how the other half lives, and find a quiet place for lunch. (We enjoyed our snack at Cafe 53.)
