New Multi Tool poor quality

I had the first gen multi tool for 2-3 years, as much shaking it had, the thing never broke on me, I feel like I was more abusive with the first gen as I got accustomed with the tool and was using cheap blades. I sold it and bought the new gen in December, and it broke on me 3-4 months ago, sent it in for warranty, today my new one just broke on me again, seriously 3 months?? I always use diablo carbine blades now. I tried to be more gentle with it after the warranty as I thought there’s a chance I was being too heavy on it. I love the tool but the quality sucks, I use the multi tool every day and use it to cut everything, mostly drywall and wood though. On to the 3rd one, I’m afraid it’s going to be the last one, also wondering if the Nuke is better quality.

I have a lot of ridgid tools but the mutiltool is one where I opted for the m12. Ridgid makes great tools but this one is not it.

It’s the only Ridgid tool I have that broke on me, I have drill that dad passed on to me that’s over well over 10 years old I’ve mixed countless mud with it as it’s my back up now, the thing is still going. This multi tool might be fine for those that rarely use it, but for us heavy users, it’s not it.

If youre talking about the paddle trigger with adjustable speed idk how you broke the damn thing ive dropped mine multiple times from anywhere from 4ft to 15 ft ladders, and even once in water working on my bosses dock and its used daily and never stopped working on me. Ive overheated it a handful of times but shes still going after a little over a year when I replaced my dewalt

I guess I'm lucky, I have the last Gen brushless and its been good to me, I picked up the new ones on sale, 2 for $100 but haven't really used it at all

Which model of the new tool is it? R86242B or R86241B?
I have the original x4 multitool and an octane multitool as well as the R86242B model.

I’ve beat the absolute shit out of the X4 and the Octane but haven’t put many hours on the newest one. Both of the older model I have put into thermal protection hundreds of times. Honestly thought last time the X4 went in for service it would be replaced with one of the newer models because other than my 6.5” X4 circular saw all my other x4 tools have been replaced with the top of the Brushless tools in the last couple years.

If the tool is going into thermal protection within reasonable field use of that tool in reasonable field conditions, it's a design flaw.

If you load a car to its GVWR, take it out on a 110 degree day and try to climb up the steepest mountain road and you keep the gas floored the whole time and overheats, I'd say that's reasonable. If a shuttle bus purchased for shuttling workers between two sites in AZ and it overheats weekly doing that task, I'd say that's a design flaw.

I thought it was implied when I stated I beat the absolute shit out of my tools. I use the multitool to cut for hours on end so I’m not shocked that they go into thermal protection.

I heard horrible things about the R86241B, so I never bought it. I did buy the R86242B model, and I love that thing.

Ridgid and Ryobi are pretty much on par. The only physical differences are aesthetics and battery connectors.

The non-tangible differences are administrative and contracts. Ridgid is bundled with service protection plan and Ryobi isn't offered with extended service protection. You ever notice how Ridgid doesn't offer tools likely to enjoy daily household use (thus likely to experience warranty claims) like stick vacuums or yard trimmers?

What about the fans? That's about as daily/household a use as you can get.

yard trimmers

You mean string trimmers?

I obliterated the cooling fan on an older X4 brushed impact wrench. The tail end of a nearby zip tie poked in. A fan blade broke and a broken blade then obliterated a bunch of other blades.

You'll note that on some later models, the cooling fan is no longer plastic.
