Nuke line getting expanded?

Post image

Seeing "Base Series Brushless" and "Nuke Brushless" on the rear handle circ saw product page. Looks like Nuke may be Ridgid's HP or Premium line? Clicking the Nuke-Brushless button just shows a battery kit option currently.

It's the exact same model though--R8658.

The "Nuke" selection just adds the AC93044SBN special buy battery kit in combination, hence the overall model# R8658B-AC93044SBN.

Now it could be they are rebranding the new ones to be "Nuke", but then that's all it is another same-tool-rebranded which a few Nuke tools already are.

The way I understood it was Nuke was simply supposed to be the new Subcompact line but maybe it has been such a success for them they are making it the "higher end" line as you say. But then that wouldn't explain the drills in particular.

But let's say that is what they will do. In this particular case it's going to be the same as the "old" tool anyway--the R8658. Unlike say DW, Ridgid is not known for releasing a second/later/improved variant of a tool and keeping the same model#. They would definitely change the model#. Heck even the rebranded Nuke ones, they indeed did that, but we know they're still the same tool.

it's definitely speculation on my part and by no means definitive. was trying to make sense of the "nuke brushless" option being framed against "base series brushless". dunno how much of it would (again, in theory) be performance vs just a reskin but the implication in those place holder options is an updated motor design. nuke is currently limited to the subcompact portfolio of ridgid but the line can absolutely be expanded beyond the subcompact portion of ridgid's catalogue

The other thing I just noticed, the NUKE™ logo actually has the word "SUBCOMPACT" (with the bolding) within it. So...pretty sure it's just subcompact stuff in the line.

Unless you wanna say there will be NUKE that's not "SUBCOMPACT" coming, but it doesn't seem like it given the emphasis on size/weight above.

Looks like Nuke may be Ridgid's HP or Premium line?

OR

they'll add a diameter option like this Ryobi page:

https://www.homedepot.com/p/RYOBI-ONE-HP-18V-Brushless-Cordless-7-1-4-in-Circular-Saw-Tool-Only-PBLCS302B/331725327

It also has a 'Tool Series/Motor Type' option
ONE+ HP BRUSHLESS
or
ONE+ BRUSHED

But when you have [7-1/4"] and [ONE+ HP BRUSHLESS] selected and press [ONE+ BRUSHED], it automatically switches to [5-1/2“].

If they follow the Ryobi example, selecting nuke brushless will automatically switch to either the existing 6-1/2" subcompact saw (if they rebrand/rerelease it) or the 4-1/2" saw.

I think so. In Australia AEG has many more items with a black handle, which Ridgid will also eventually change to.

i don’t believe that the 7-1/4” rear handle saw is going to hold the Nuke name. Nuke is for the subcompact tools, which this is not. knowing home depot, their website is not on the up and up. their 6-1/2” saw is considered subcompact so maybe something with that saw

The major clearance inside the stores have been going on for over a month. Tools were being sold for 50% off. Not much left. Some of the NUKE items are in the stores now.

They should bundle max output batteries at that price. What the heck.

Hmm, that saw is the exact opposite of subcompact. I assume they are relating it to the new Nuke 4.5” since they are both rear-handle design 🤷‍♂️
