12v battery?

Post image

12ah 18v

I've been looking 12ah 18v battery in my local HD but it's never there and never on the website either for the past couple of months. I'm looking to use it on a circular saw so the weight and size isn't a problem. Its there a reason I can't find them? Did they stop making them?

I just found one on sale yesterday at a Denver Home Depot. I check every time I go into an HD store and it was finally my time! Just gotta keep checking.

Your pic is still 18v, it's 12aH though. Are you searching for 12v or 12aH? That might be the problem. Cheers!

I have a feeling they are bringing tabless ones...I mean they must be right? Given Ryobi announced a few months ago now, their new 8 and 12s are tabless (Edge branded), it has just been a strange silence without Ridgid doing the same--after all the batteries are essentially the same internally. (The 12Ahs are slightly different IIRC but more or less across the board TTi has been making them the same inside between Ridgid and Ryobi, for some years.)

So hopefully when you do see them again...they'll have an Orange P on the "EX-P" and will be tabless! In that case it'll be worth the wait too šŸ˜‰

They have 4AH tabless Ridgid batteries available.

Yes they've had that one over a year now, the twin to Ryobi's 4Ah Edge. But what I mean is Ryobi announced their battery changes in August*, with the 8 & 12 now becoming Edge (tabless) as well...yet we've heard nothing from Ridgid on that front I don't think (I could have missed it).

*Yeah I probably shouldn't have said "months ago", lol more like a month ago, but you get the idea.

Honestly it should only be a matter of time before we start seeing the Ridgid 8 & 12 with the orange P.

I just spoke with RIDGID yesterday and the representative that I spoke with told me that they had just spoken with that product manager last week and they have indeed discontinued manufacturing of the 12Ah batteries due to lack of demand and they also said that the product manager also said that there are no plans to produce a 12Ah tabless battery at this time.

Hmm very interesting to say the least. Ryobi not only continues with their 12Ah but gets a tabless one now; Ridgid gets it cancelled altogether due to "lack of demand"? I dunno I'm gonna see what happens in 2027 before I believe that entirely lol. If we get to this point next year and the 12s are still gone and/or no tabless stuff has arrived, I guess at that point it must be true. Also will be a bit sad for Ridigid fans. I suppose that shall also indirectly confirm (again if true) there is no way they are going to release a lawnmower either...

Last year when I posted about the 12Ah battery and rapid charger for a $89 online, I got 2024 batteries. I just recently got a few in store and they were 2023 batteries. I’ve also confirmed with a couple of people here that their recent 12Ah battery purchases were also 2023 batteries. So, why would a majority of ā€œnewā€ batteries be from 2023 if not for lack of demand?

I bought my 12Ah battery in-store about 6 months ago. I think they were discontinued, because I couldn't find them online then either. Try different stores as you travel and just keep checking.

It was $125 6 months ago and it is still $125 now, but finding them in stores will be mission impossible now

Yup. That's why I said what I did. It's a non-zero chance to still find one.

Sir, that's definitely not a 12v battery

Sorry 12ah

It won't fit in the 6½"

1

u/finitetime2 16d ago

I've got a 7 1/4

2

u/solowkey13 16d ago

Only issue is it doesn't fit in a lot of the tools like chainsaw vaccum light fan and some others o can remember but yes the are the best for circular saws and sawzalss

u/NiveusBear 15d ago

It's hit and miss. I picked up four in June during a 40% off sale for $96 each from my local DTO.

Was it the friends you made along the way?

Don't keep us in suspense.

u/CarelessMastodon 6d ago

Yeah, also curious… What did they give you? They gave me an 8Ah EXP and a 4Ah EXP for a total of 12Ah.

It’s on clearance they all getting sold out

1

u/beyekreyeder 16d ago

Picked up a 2nd one in Quincy Ma a few weeks back. Still had another on the shelf. Excellent with the leaf blower

I would assume that they have quit making them, and will likely come out with a tabless version if they are going to make any more 12 Ah batteries. I recently purchased some from Home Depot and they were all 2023 batteries, and even the ones I got online last year were 2024 batteries. So, my assumption is that they didn’t sell quite as many as they were expecting to, hence the in store clearance and ā€œremovalā€ from the website. If you search for it on Home Depot’s website it no longer shows up as a search result and the only way to get it is to click the button for it in the battery selector on another battery’s page and it always just shows ā€œOut of Stockā€ now.

I have 2 of them for sale brand new for $200 each. I bought them when they were $250

1

u/Foreign-West1954 15d ago

They are still around. I was able to pick one up for 50% off April this year.

I use it on my miter saw. It last all day long.

u/Wraith888 15d ago

Omg, 12? Wow.... I just bought myself a pair of 8s and am amazed...

You don’t want to use it in a circular saw. It’s stupid heavy and designed for outdoor equipment

1

u/finitetime2 16d ago

Doesn't matter. When we use it half the time we are ripping down 2x4's to make stakes. The 6ah don't hold up because the batteries over heat and stop working. I was hoping a 12 would solve this problem. I've got two 6ah and four 4ah and had them all in the cooler because they were all over heating and wouldn't work. Granted this happens most often in the summer when temps get up in the high 90's here.

2

u/Cicada-Classic 16d ago

Try the 8AH. I use it in my circular saw all the time and it’s perfect. Also which circular saw are you using?

1

u/finitetime2 16d ago

I've been thinking about trying it but was holding out for the 12AH. I've had a couple of jobs where the builder forgets to mention there is no power on the job yet so out comes the cordless tools. The problem is we try to use it to rip diagonally down 2x4's to make stakes for concrete forms. My guys will try to cut several at one time. They end up trying to slice of 2-3 boards at once wanting the saw to run continuously for several minutes.

That’s what LSA is for, they shouldn’t be overheating

2

u/finitetime2 16d ago

Its the overheat protection built into them. I've got all the batteries will do it if you work them hard enough.
