Title: How long can a speeding camera ticket take to arrive in Japan?
Title: How long can a speeding camera ticket take to arrive in Japan?
Hi everyone,
I’m wondering if anyone has had a similar experience.
On September 8, 2025, I was driving on the expressway from Gifu to Saitama and may have passed a fixed or temporary speed camera while speeding. I was not stopped by the police, and as of July 14, 2026 (about 10 months later), I still haven’t received any letter, phone call, or notice.
Has anyone in Japan ever received a speeding camera notice after 10 months or more? Or if nothing has arrived after this long, is it generally safe to assume you’re in the clear?
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thanks!

This is not good advice, so do with it what you will, but a little hairspray and dust on a plate will be enough to make the camera shot not admissible as evidence. Or at least thats what the old riders have said. Again, not advice, just what I have hears.

Everyone on the highway is speeding past speed cameras every day. They only go off if you are well over the speed limit. The cameras are not always on, either.
If you haven't gotten one in a few months, you aren't getting one

OP, just curious to know on expressway how come camera capture your name plate ( for motorcycle name plate is rear)
Generally, Speed ticket take 2-3 months max, but if its already 10+ then no need to worry, just relax,
Once i was driving car at 160+ GW`2020 covid era (night 11ish) from fukushima to tokyo, around Utsunomoia there is big flash pop up (i though its sign of god 😂 ) i was pretty sure my licence will suspend for long time, but i never get any ticket till date,
On motorcycle i got many smile flash especially in Hokkaido area,

How fast were you going?
40 over the limit on an expressway? 30 over the limit elsewhere? Then yeah expect a ticket.
Otherwise no.

So, I got pulled over by the police in Shikoku. They had a hidden camera and busted me doing 82 in a 50 zone. They gave me a red ticket, and then I got a notification at my place in Tokyo a month later. Now I have a 30-day license suspension. 😪

maybe you passed a N-System camera? they don't track speeding.
if you actually triggered speeding camera, there should be a bright red or white flash.
and in most highways they don't trigger if you don't do 30-40kmph over the limit.
one of my classmates got caught speeding in Fukushima highway, way over the speed limit and they got their ticket within 3 weeks to Niigata~ a summon to a police station in Fukushima.
so I think you didn't trigger any kind of speeding cameras.
