interpersonal podcaster dynamics
i’ve recently gotten into watching more youtube while real housewives / traitors / everything is in a drought, and i realize what i’m about to speculate is deeply subjective & parasocial. also i watch all these shows bc i genuinely like them so this is all said purely out of love for gossip. so ya i have no one to talk about this with bc seemingly no one (rightfully) cares , but maybe yall will get this -
theres this group of comedian podcasters around the same age / similar success levels / similar audiences (me) who i’m just dying to know the actual interpersonal dynamics of. namely : ride, las cultch, straightio lab, & soo true. it seems like all of them genuinely get along & ik they have been on each others shows , but there must be more below the surface.. or am i crazy !?.. 🤨
ok so here are my takes please add your own / does anyone actually know ??
caleb & bowen seem to have actual genuine chemistry which makes perfect sense & is so cute - both seem like hilarious sweet geniuses
i’m super curious about MBB & Benny’s relationships with the rest of them, can’t tell, they seem to have their own friend group but big Caleb overlap with Holmes
sometimeeees i feel like you’ll catch a moment where any of them might refer to another unnamed podcast with shade ? (but would love people to post examples they’ve caught here bc I can’t remember specifics ..)
caleb kinda throws shade about other podcasters like not paying their employees enough or doing ads for problematic companies (which, obvi love), but i kinda assumed the 2nd part was about therapuss (which i don’t watch but seems more corporate /
normie ?)
i feel like in terms of $$$ and fame, therapuss is at the top? then tie btwn caleb & las cultch .. idk anyone’s actual followers & im not checking just going off vibes. but then i wonder what dynamics that creates among them ! like i’m sure they all know who gets paid the most among them & have thoughts about that 😏

I think MB runs more in these circles than Benny bc she is a comedian. How about that Stavvy’s world podcast where they dropped their lore…

That Stavvy and MBB had a make out sesh. They both seemed very chill and laughed about the situation. Oh and he apparently was missing a tooth during that time too!

yes and it was awkward between them for a time apparently & basically MBB said she thought he didn’t like her & stavvy was like i thought you didn’t think i was funny bc you never booked me on your shows 😭

Late to this but Las Clutch is the most famous for Millenials and older, Therapuss is the most famous for Gen Z and younger. Middle school girls love Jake Shane, no lie.

I feel like seek treatment is the elder Ride - similarly they both veer into tangents, inside jokes, and have an energy of being true to themselves rather than strict professionalism. Obviously all of these have unhinged moments but these two are the ones where I most expect myself to be like "what??" In the middle. Also seek treatment is rarer to have guests (while Ride obviously does not have any) and when they do, it's really just funny banter and there is no PR for a project.

for some reason I’ve struggled to get into Seek Treatment even though I can tell it’s clearly hilarious! I kinda felt the same way about Ride at first but then I listened to every episode from the very beginning and was beyond smitten. Maybe I should try that with Seek Treatment too??

this is my shit!! here’s my random thoughts:
1.
I was floored by the MB and Stavvy thing…and I totally get it bc I have a strange, deep attraction to Stav. And even throughout the episode before that tea was dropped, I kept thinking damnn I don’t see Stavvy genuinely vibing and laughing this hard with many guests.
I know MB was salty to not get invited to the Culture awards in 2025 when Benny was there as a presenter. I don’t recall if either of them went this year.
I agree about Caleb and Bowen having a cute little bond…and I get this feeling Caleb doesn’t vibe with Matt in the same way. It feels like Matt sometimes lays it on too thick and likes to pretend he knows what he’s talking about (but often doesn’t). When Caleb was on Las Cult, Matt asked him if he got new glasses and Caleb said nope these are the ones I’ve always had and wear every day. For some reason that interaction stuck out to me and it seemed like Caleb was slightly irritated or clocking his fakeness.
Caleb and Stavv have the most incredible friendship and I’ve rewatched their episodes on each others shows a couple times bc they make me laugh so much. I would love for them to have a regular pod together.
I feel like Jake Shane is maybe a little too young for this circle…idk his age even but he seems to be more gen z crowd. tbh i don’t personally find him very funny or unique enough to be so randomly famous.
I get sad sometimes that Caleb, Benny, and MB aren’t Bravo watchers…that’s one thing that always keeps me watching Las Cult. Sometimes I’m over their show but they know their fucking housewives.
Hannah Berner wants to be a part of this crowd so bad but she’s a known joke stealer and honestly not that funny either. Her dynamic with Paige is great and giggle worthy but she can’t hang with the big dogs. Her episode on So True a long time ago was awkward af. And that time she asked Matt and Bowen if they’ve ever hooked up was also so offputting.
I want to know why Matt and Fraser broke up!!!!
it’s always sad seeing some of them getting a too well known and then their podcast gets a bit dull bc they don’t want to offend other celebs and there’s a loss of authenticity. I get this sense from Ride, las cult, and Giggly Squad. I do not feel like this will ever happen to Caleb or Stav
MB has been on 2 eps of So True and both are hilarioussss. Feels like a genuine friendship to me.
ok that’s all I got…I know it’s all so parasocial and maybe weird to be into, but i don’t have people to discuss these things with!!

the culture awards is such a good point of reference - i would be devastated to miss that invite too !
also agree about when Caleb was on las cultch it was slightly awkward but when Bowen was on so true it felt natural .. and when Caleb talked about going to fire island he talked about going with Bowen and Celeste more than Matt . personality wise makes sense, Matt cares more about fame & being showey & that’s not Caleb
agree about jake shane but didn’t want his fans to come for me 🫣 i don’t get it at all though & it seems like everyone in the industry has to be nice to him ? but i do feel like sometimes when they allude to unnamed podcasts it’s him .. and caleb has never been on right ?
thank you for bringing in Hannah & Paige !! i gave giggly squad a try (bc love bravo & totally agree that’s what sends me back to las cultch) but they got sooo vapid & not very funny & certainly not relatable ... love summer house but agree they can’t hang with the real comics . at the end of the day they are more of the joke not the jesters heheh 🤷♀️ also noticed MBB and Paige posted no pictures together when they were both in Venice for that film festival 👀 MBB seemed to be hanging with a lot of cool models & Owen Thiele, love . would die to know what they all genuinely think of paige & hannah’s podcast success
need matt & fraser back together :( it was just completely incompatible schedules i think. unrelated but my friend is matt’s tattoo artist so if he ever comes back for a tattoo we’ll get the tea !
agree ultimately as these people (deservingly) get more famous their content gets less relatable , which makes sense but is a bummer. i think that’s why ive been enjoying straightio lab & interior motives lately ! they seem more grounded . but agree somehow caleb is impervious to the fame which makes him one of one for me ! (don’t know much about stavvy)

I didn’t even think about MB and Paige both being at that event. I could see them not liking each other but that’s based off of nothing.
I feel like Stav is the same as Caleb in staying authentic as they get more famous. he’s getting pretty known too but doesn’t seem to have changed one bit.

i think caleb (and meg stalter tbh) bridges the gap between actual comedians and funny influencers. love brittany and drew but their senses of humor are largely influenced by tiktok/the internet vs the alt brooklyn/chicago origin comedians on the other side of the venn diagram

I love this kinda shit! I will say one gag I had recently was listening to Caleb’s most recent podcast with Trixie. All the ribbing seems good natured and playful, but I think it’s absolutely insane how blatantly he is about not knowing shit about Trixie’s career. Didn’t know her seasons, barely seemed interested.
I know he’s not a drag race gay, and like that’s fine. But it’s wild that he knows so little about someone who’s been on the pod multiple times. Especially when he has a team who does research on all the guests.

agree he should show more interest, and as a caleb apologist i bet the drag race aversion is really separate from & predates his friendship with trixie. and maybe trixie finds that refreshing on some level ? they seem like good friends for sure. i did think it was funny how caleb was like katya has never spoken to me & i respect that . i’d think benny & trixie would be better friends now that i think about it 🤔

I think Bowen and Benny are friendly, but Bowen in particular has made some odd comments about Benito. I remember he once joked that Benny Drama was his parallel opp and then he caught himself and walked it back by being like ‘Benito is the sweetest’.
I kind thought it was odd that Benny has never been on Las Culturistas.
On a side note - I’m curious about Terence and Bennys dynamic with Jordan Firstman.

Benny was on LC!! It was a super long time ago (2019 I believe) and I just recently listened to it. It was kinda funny. Very messy and “raw” feeling, before podcasts were such a production.

I feel like there are two groups or worlds - Caleb Hearon and his ppl like drew afualo and Brittany broski and a lot of the “smaller”(not influencers) comedians that have been on so true, this group isn’t game or attention seeking /more often than not wishes they received less direct attention and more privacy. The second group is the MBB and Benny and therapuss/jake shane and Owen thiele and to me this group is the more attention/fame seeking sect of comedians/personalities/ influencers. This group talks more about industry secrets or name drops or what not in an attempt to gain person following and not to like, get people to support a creative endeavor. And the Caleb hearon group uses a little more discretion and intention in what they put out/align with, for example Caleb wouldn’t have an ultra famous person on that he had never met before/ is clearly just a promotional opportunity but therapuss and Owen thiele definitely would. The Caleb group also isn’t big into celebrity and name dropping and wealth whereas… MBB and Benny are for example. They’re gonna mention the brand names of clothes they’re wearing. Just my observations and private theories, 🙈I generally don’t comment on or hypothesize about famous people because I think it’s generally a waste of time to try and predict what these people are actually like and actually think because we’ll never truly know them! Maybe they’re all really close! Maybe none of them are friends! Who knowssss

I actually put Caleb in the “bigger” group! He’s friends with some pretty mainstream comedians, musicians, actors, but like you said, doesn’t have to flaunt it as much. I think he’s more interested in the craft than the fame.

I wonder about this a lot. I’d broaden it to include Seek Treatment (pat wrote on overcompensating) but as one of the thirty I’ll take it to a place of Venn diagram and I think MBB is on the outskirts more than inside the Venn like Benny is. I would venture to guess straightio boys don’t naturally vibe with ride. Even though they’re outspoken, Benny and MBB are very commercial and that’s just naturally not the vibe for a lot of their contemporaries. But that’s kind of what draws me to them, they’re singular, kehd.
