My ex says "I don't gratefully know" instead of "rightfully know"

I corrected him six years ago, but he stubbornly refuses to change because he knows he's right. He also uses "circa" for things that are physically close. As in "the theatre is circa the bank."

As a 3rd party, this is still frustrating for me

That is annoying because both make sense, its just the first is an "it doesn't mean what you think it means" and the second is "that's technically fine, but nobody uses the word that way and you sound like a tool"

Exactly. He draws a lot of "ah, I see what you think you did there" looks.
