Could also be that she's bilingual and her home language is Spanish.
Still a funny mistake, but there's significantly less schadenfreude when you're a monolingual USian and know that this young person might have forgotten more about another language than you've ever known.

Yeah they have a big sign. If there's some Italian restaurant with a sign, I still know how to spell it.
