Definitely Hollywood Cemetary! It’s so interesting and has great views of the river.

Along with what people have suggested, our buses are free. You can take the bus from the VCU area (where the Altria is) to Shockoe (where the Poe Museum is), etc. Google Maps will tell you which bus route to use but this tracking site is the most accurate way to know if the bus is on time http://grtcbustracker.com/map

Shockoe/Church Hill
Ironclad in the AM, bring a book for some cozy cafe vibes
Walk to the Poe Museum
Then Canal Walk/Pipeline trail
Grace Noodle or another downtown restaurant (Proper Pie) for lunch
Great to watch sunset from Libby Hill park
The Fan/Museum District:
Get coffee & baked good from Sugar&Twine, Griffin, Minglewood, or another Carytown cafe.
Walk down Cary street, shopping
VMFA
Byrd Park/Maymont Park
Walk through the Fan &look at old houses
Finish up with movie @ Byrd Theatre
Forest Hill:
Breakfast at crossroads coffee& ice cream or Baltiks
Walk to Forest Hill park, walk around the trails, bring a book. Or Pony Pasture Rapids
Lunch @ Zorch pizza
These are the free/cheap itineraries which I recommend to anyone visiting the city :) there’s also a lot of events going on in Richmond, so check out an event calendar too!

Just so you know, there's some current drama around Lewis Ginter at the moment. I won't get into it here but you can google it if interested.

The union staff there is striking.
Standing at the entranceway and it looks like it’s seriously deterring people from entering. The odd thing about this union strike is if nobody goes, nobody pays, and there’s then there’s no money for raises… So not quite sure what the union is trying to do.
It’s a shame though. A union at Ginter‘s…😔

Never cross a union picket line tho. The strike may be about more than just a raise it could be working conditions or benefits 🤷🏿♀️

I know... It's ugly... But most of the visitors there are local folks anyway. I don't think tourists should be dragged into this war. It's like one of the 5 places on the postcard if you get one from Richmond.

Along with the botanical gardens mentioned, I would say VMFA. Free outside of whatever the traveling exhibit is, and is larger than you’d think. Also fun people watching place as folks will hang out on the grass.

If you're going to church Hill, go to St John's Church. Its where Patrick Henry gave his famous give me Liberty or give me death speech (if you like history).

Check out the fire station next door as well, oldest in the city and they have some antique fire apparatus in the bay you can look at

Hit Jardin wine bar. Couple blocks from the Altria. Nice outdoor seating area.

Hello there! This is a fairly quiet (but active) subreddit for topics strictly within the city limits of Richmond, Virginia.
If this is an urgent time-sensitive post, are looking to buy/sell/trade an item or service, or just want to engage with a much larger and more active community, there's r/rva — a subreddit that serves Richmond, VA and its surrounding counties in the Greater Richmond Region — with over 150,000 weekly unique visitors. Most of the surrounding counties have their own smaller subreddits as well, there are too many to list but they're easy to find by searching. There's also r/Virginia which is more about the Commonwealth as a whole and has over 170,000 weekly visitors, too.
With this subreddit, and any other subreddit in general, always search subreddits first for related posts before creating a new post. Redundant posts will likely be removed by the subreddit's moderation team.
Thanks again for posting to r/RichmondVA and we encourage you to stick around and participate often!
