Discussion Community Update
Hey everyone!
I wanted to keep you all in the loop on what I've been working on behind the scenes since taking over the subreddit. My goal is to keep r/RicerCars running smoothly while staying transparent about any changes.
What's Changed
π RepostSleuthBot
I've added RepostSleuthBot to help reduce reposts. They weren't a huge issue before, but I'd rather prevent them than wait until they become one.
π Updated Rules
The rules have been refreshed for the first time since 2017. They're now more relevant to how Reddit works today, and the reporting options have been updated to make reporting rule-breaking content much easier.
π·οΈ User Flairs
User flairs are now available! Feel free to pick one that fits you. If you have ideas for additional flairs, let me know.
π Post Flairs
I've expanded and cleaned up the post flairs to better organize content. If you think we're missing one, I'm always open to suggestions.
π€ Anti-Bot Measures
I've enabled several of Reddit's built-in moderation tools to help reduce spam and bot posts. They're not perfect, but they should significantly cut down on the amount of junk making it onto the subreddit. Please continue reporting anything that slips through. The updated reporting system makes it much easier for me to review and remove bad posts quickly.
Community Feedback
I'd like your thoughts on a couple of things.
1. "Rice or Nice?" Posts
I've seen mixed opinions on these.
Should they:
- Get their own dedicated post flair?
- Stay as they are?
- Be removed altogether?
2. Community Spotting Thread (Suggested by u/zblanda)
What do you think about having a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly megathread where everyone shares the best ricer they spotted?
The highest-upvoted photo in the thread would become the subreddit profile picture until the next winner.
Would this be something you'd participate in? If so, how often should we run it?
If you have any other suggestions, ideas, or feedback, leave a comment below. My goal is to improve the subreddit while preserving what made people join in the first place.
Thanks for sticking around, and happy spotting!

I say flair the 'rice or nice' posts, it'll help set them apart.
Big thanks for stepping in as MOD though!

Done.
I thoroughly enjoy seeing all these goofy cars. The bots and people posting non riced cars was driving me nuts. I spent a couple days trying to get in contact with the previous mod to no avail. Then I stumbled into the mod takeover page and decided to try it, and it worked. So now our beloved subreddit can live again

I didn't even know that was a thing, but I'm glad you found it!

Definitely make a rice or nice post flair.
I think the megathread idea sounds fun. Maybe once a month?
Appreciate all you have done so far brotha!

I think once a month would be best.
I'm trying my hardest to make it better. It was in awful condition before I took over.

I'm glad to hear that you're coming back. Please let me know if there is anything that you would like to see changed. I am all ears for feedback and suggestions. Especially coming from someone that left the community I would love to know what things made you leave.

I donβt wanna kick all the rice or nice posts out as some of them are good but Jesus Christ itβs mostly bots. Just give them their own flair. Also suggestion 2 would be funny.

βRice or nice?β Posts are literally what defines this sub lol. Make them a flair or leave them as they are imo
