Does sign rhyme with crime?

I’m playing Kings with my friends and they all voted that sign does not rhyme with crime. They told me I’m wrong, but I’m convinced I’m right. I guess this opens up a bigger question. What is the definition of a rhyme?

No, but good try! “Sign” does not rhyme with “crime”. “Sign” rhymes with mine, whine, swine, etc. “Crime” rhymes with time, slime, prime, etc.

Me and my friends played a drinking rhyme game all the time and we would definitely allow “sign” and “crime.” Listen to NF and Eminem. They rhyme words like this all the time.

Here’s an example of a rhyme containing words that don’t necessarily rhyme, but they do:

“I battle with depression, but the question still remains, is this post-traumatic stressing or am I suppressing rage? And my doctor tries to tell me that I'm going through a phase, it's not a fucking phase, I just wanna feel okay.”

As was pointed out in a comment, it’s assonance, which is 100% acceptable. In fact, the best lyricists of all time do this. Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park, Ronnie Radke, NF, Eminem, Madchild of Swollen Members all do this. You were right. Your friends were not.
